  • The desire of humankind that longed for reappearance of visual makes progress within the development of linear history. The directing point at the moment was the 'eye'. Upon completion of setting the aiming point, visual image attempts reflection of main agent beyond reappearance of it and, by extension, aimed to visualize desire which was latent in the instance of main agent. It was able to experience a fantasy in paintings, photos and movies as a stage of desire, of course. Digital, however, suggested a new phasis in creating a fantasy world. This study aimed to research the fantastic nature in digital image that a fantastic image is created as a reflection of both independence and unconsciousness. As a result of research, this study revealed that digital image, as a channel that image and imaginative desire which were saved in id, is created as a perfect stage on the basis of verisimilitude, granting an experience toward realization of desire to a main agent raising id which was repressed by the ego and superego to the surface.

  • The transfer mechanism of optical information at the interface of air and glass (the air-glass IF) has been investigated by thoroughly fulfilling the theoretical and experimental analyses regarding the FTIR (Frustrated Total Internal Reflection) and moisture effects on the fingerprint onto a glass cup with water. As for the fingerprint onto a glass cup with water its image was observed to be very vivid, which turned out to be due to the difference between the two light intensities reflected on the air-glass IF and the wet fingerprint ridge by manipulating the optical theories such as Fresnel relation, Snell's law, FTIR, GT (general transmission) and so on. In addition, the experimental inspection for FTIR and moisture effects on the fingerprint image also evidenced the fact that the vivid fingerprint image originated from the moisture effect rather than the FTIR phenomenon.

  • We consider introducing an optical thin film to the light guiding wall of a pixel in order to enhance the light guiding efficiency of a CMOS image sensor. Simulating the reflectance as a function of the incidence angle using the Essential Macleod program, we find that the range of total internal reflection is greatly increased for several materials. Particularly when air is chosen as the thin film material, the critical angle of total internal reflection could be shifted to about 50 degrees.

  • Korean Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) has studied on gas hydrate in the Ulleung Basin, East sea of Korea since 1997. Most of all, a evidence for existence of gas hydrate, possible new energy resources, in seismic reflection data is bottom simulating reflection (BSR) which parallel to the sea bottom. Here we conducted the conventional data processing for gas hydrate data and Kirchhoff prestack depth migration. Kirchhoff migration is widely used for pre- and post-stack migration might be helpful to better image as well as to get the geological information. The processed stack image by GEOBIT showed some geological structures such as faults and shallow gas hydrate seeping area indicated by strong BSR. The BSR in the stack image showed at TWT 3.07s between shot gather No 3940 to No 4120. The estimated gas seeping area occurred at the shot point No 4187 to No 4203 and it seems to have some minor faults at shot point No 3735, 3791, 3947 and 4120. According to the result of depth migration, the BSR showed as 2.3km below the sea bottom.

  • Myth is defined as hidden rules or practices in a particular group universally represented in the overall society. The implied meanings in the myth is the result of reflection of culture, and the understanding of the reflection seeps into the society, making cycle structure. In many mythological stories, an act of looking has broad meanings. For example, in the story of Orpheus, Medusa and Tiresias, the act of looking brought about misfortune. The implication of these stories is that it pushes 'what should be not done' rather than 'what should be done', highlighting taboos across the society. This study seeks to present a case of image analysis by interpreting the image of current commercials through the relationship between looking back and taboos among acts of looking in mythological stories.

  • Finger vein recognition, which is a promising biometric method for identity authentication, has attracted significant attention. Considerable research focuses on transmission-type finger vein recognition, but this type of authentication is difficult to implement in mobile consumer devices. Therefore, reflection-type finger vein recognition should be developed. In the reflection-type vein recognition field, the majority of researchers concentrate on palm and palm dorsa patterns, and only a few pay attention to reflection-type finger vein recognition. Thus, this paper presents reflection-type finger vein recognition for biometric application that can be integrated into mobile consumer devices. A database is built to test the proposed algorithm. A novel method of region-of-interest localization for a finger vein image is introduced, and a scheme for effectively extracting finger vein features is proposed. Experiments demonstrate the feasibility of reflection-type finger vein recognition.

  • A novel two-phase PIV algorithm using a single camera has been proposed, which introduces a method of image-separation into respective phase images, and is applied to freely rising single bubble. Gas bubble, tracer particle and background each have different gray intensity ranges on the same image frame when reflection and dispersion in the phase interface are intrinsically eliminated by optical filters and fluorescent material. Further, the signals of the two phases do not interfere with each other. Gas phase velocities are obtained from the separated bubble image by applying the two-frame PTV. On the other hand, liquid phase velocities are obtained from the tracer particle image by applying the cross-correlation algorithm. Moreover, in order to increase the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) of the cross-correlation of tracer particle image, image enhancement is employed.

  • Greeting the era that the interest in qualitative aspects of life environment is getting important, commercial space, which is sensitive to the reflection of consumers' desire, is making efforts to secure the interior image identity of its own space. Especially, because the bar, which is the object of this study, is competing with undistinguished alcoholic beverages, the distinction of the interior image construction becomes more important. Here this study is purposed to understand the features of structural elements for the construction of the image identity of interior space. Especially, the purpose is to present the basic materials of the space design for individuality and distinction by considering relationship between the whole image and structural elements that form the image of space, and the preference, centering on the installation, which is being used very much for the image identity construction in eating and drinking space these days.

  • Visual inspection systems are widely proposed for the well formed surface materials like electronics parts. But the materials with ill reflection ability have many troubles when visual inspection system is introduced. We have developed a robust visual inspection system that can work well in spite of low reflection ratio and with much noise when truth model is not known in the mixed production line. A workpiece identification technique using k-means has been proposed to identify the type. Based on the identified type, a robust-to-noise segmentation method, called active contour, has been applied to segment the features from the image. Finally, Kalman filter has been applied to adapt the error variation. Experiment shows that performance is about to match the accuracy of manual measurement using projectors.
