Mooring Tension and Motion Characteristics of a Floating Fish Reef with Pipe in Waves and Currents Using Numerical Model

  • The mooring line tension and motion response of a floating fish reef system were analyzed using a Morison equation type numerical model. The reef structure was constructed with pipe and suspended up from the bottom with a single, high tension mooring. Input forcing parameters into the model consisted of both regular and random waves, with and without currents. Heave, surge and pitch dynamic calculations were made, along with the tension response in the mooring lines. Results were analyzed in both the time and frequency domains and where appropriate, linear transfer functions were calculated. In addition, damped and natural periods of the system were determined to examine a resonating situation.

  • 인공어초의 구조적 설치로 인하여 흐름의 변화가 생기며, 이로 인한 인공어초 주변의 퇴적물 수송은 침전과 매몰뿐만 아니라 저질 환경에도 영향을 미친다. 본 조사는 경상북도 포항시 해역에 시설된 사각형 어초의 시설상태를 파악하기 위하여 수중음향 영상기기인 사이드 스캔 소나(SSS), 인공위성 위치 측정기(DGPS)와 잠수조사를 통한 조사를 실시하였다. 조사 결과, 총 139개소에서 10,526개의 사각형 어초가 발견되었으며, 어초 기능 유지에 영향을 미치는 수준으로 판단되는 0.5m 이상의 매몰과 세굴은 각각 4개소(0.5~1.2m, 2.9%)와 3개소(0.5m, 2.2%)로 나타났다. 파손의 경우 10,526개의 발견된 사각형 어초 중 183개(1.74%)로 나타났다. 따라서 포항시 해역에 시설된 사각형 인공어초의 시설상태는 비교적 안정적인 것으로 나타났다.

평면 분산된 인공어초 집합의 어초협곡 간격에 따른 후류체적 특성 (Wake Volume Characteristics Considering Artificial Reef Canyon Intervals Constructed by Flatly Distributed Artificial Reef Set)

  • Considering the artificial reef (AR) canyon intervals facilitated by flatly distributed placement models, the wake volumes of 25 AR sets were characterized through the following works. First, twenty-five different canyon intervals were established to investigate how the intervals affect the wake volumes of the AR placement models, each with nine cube-type ARs. Second, the element-based finite-volume method was used to facilitate flow analyses. Third, the so-called wake volume concept was adopted, and finally a reasonable placement interval was found based on the size of the wake volumes and the associated unit propagation indices. From the analysis results, it was found that a maximum wake volume of 25.18 m3 was generated when the longitudinal and transverse intervals were fixed at 6 m and 0 m, respectively. Thus, to magnify the wake volume, it is recommended that artificial reefs be placed at intervals of 6 m (3 times the reef length) in the flow direction, with no intervals in the normal direction, implicitly indicating that an intensively stacked placement model is a better option to efficiently secure a larger wake volume for the cube-type ARs.

GIS을 활용한 인공어초의 적지 선정에 관한 연구 (A study on suitability selection of artificial reef by GIS)

  • 본 논문는 인공어초 조성의 가장 기본적인 요소인 적지선정을 위한 방법에 대해 고찰하였다. 현장관측과 위성 원격탐사(Remote Sensing, RS)로 획득한 자료를 지리정보시스템(Geographic Information System, GIS)을 활용하여 분석하였다. 한반도 주변해역의 해양환경 특성을 파악하기 위해 물리적 조건-해저저질, 수심, 생물적 조건-클로로필-${\alpha}$, 화학적 조건-해수온, DO를 활용하였다. 인공어초 적지로는 태안반도, 거제, 완도, 포항, 서천 등이 나타났다. 향후 본 연구는 인공어초 설치의 효율적인 활용뿐만 아니라 종합적인 데이터베이스의 구축에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 또한 인공어초 시설관리의 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Other faunas, coral rubbles, and soft coral covers are important predictors of coral reef fish diversity, abundance, and biomass

  • Coral reef fisheries are prominent for the archipelagic countries' food sufficiency and security. Studies showed that fish abundance and biomass are affected by biophysical variables. The present study determines which biophysical variables are important predictors of fish diversity, abundance, and biomass. The study used available monitoring data from the Indonesian Research Center for Oceanography, the National Board for Research and Innovation. Data were collected from 245 transects in 19 locations distributed across the Indonesian Archipelago, including the eastern Indian Ocean, Sunda Shelf (Karimata Sea), Wallacea (Flores and Banda Seas), and the western Pacific Ocean. Principal component analysis and multiple regression model were administered to 13 biophysical metrics against 11 variables of coral reef fishes, i.e., diversity, abundance, and biomass of coral reef fishes at three trophic levels. The results showed for the first time that the covers of other fauna, coral rubbles, and soft corals were the three most important predictor variables for nearly all coral reef fish variables. Other fauna cover was the important predictor for all 11 coral reef fish variables. Coral rubble cover was the predictor for ten variables, but carnivore fish abundance. Soft coral cover was a good predictor for corallivore, carnivore, and targeted fishes. Despite important predictors for corallivore and carnivore fish variables, hard coral cover was not the critical predictor for herbivore fish variables. The other important predictor variables with a consistent pattern were dead coral covered with algae and rocks. Dead coral covered with algae was an important predictor for herbivore fishes, while the rock was good for only carnivore fishes.

Monitoring of Floating Fish Reef Installed in Koje Coastal Waters

  • This paper describes a floating fish reef technology for enhancement of fisheries productivity in the muddy areas. The floating fish reef was composed of main fish cage, anchor rope and concrete anchor blocks. Main fish cage was made up of 12 steel buoys measuring 0.37m in diameter and 1.5m long, polyethylene (PE) netting and circular steel rings. Each steel buoy had buoyancy of 110kgf. The size of main fish cage was 1.96 m in diameter and 3.75m in length. Monitoring on its durability was made for eight months after installation. The steel buoys fixed on main fish cage and nettings were observed to be kept safely. The wet weight of fouling organisms per unit area$(m^2)$ was 26.6kgf after eight months. Reduction in the cross-section of steel buoys and circular steel rings of main fish cage were not found. In addition, any cracks on the concrete anchor blocks were not observed.

고해상도 위성영상을 이용한 산호초 서식환경 모니터링 : 축라군 웨노섬을 중심으로 (Coral Reef Habitat Monitoring Using High-spatial Satellite Imagery : A Case Study from Chuuk Lagoon in FSM)

  • The distribution of coral reefs can be an indicator of environmental or anthropogenic impacts. Here, we present a habitat map of coral reefs developed using high-spatial satellite images. The study area was located on the north-eastern part of Weno island, in the Chuuk lagoon of Federated States of Micronesia. Two fieldwork expeditions were carried out between 2007 and 2008 to acquire optical and environmental data from 121 stations. We used an IKONOS image obtained in December 2000, and a Kompsat-2 image obtained in September 2008 for the purpose of coral reef mapping. We employed an adapted version of the object-based classification method for efficient classification of the high-spatial satellite images. The habitat map generated using Kompsat-2 was 72.22% accurate in terms of comparative analysis with in-situ measurements. The result of change detection analysis between 2000 and 2008 showed that coral reef distribution had decreased by 6.27% while seagrass meadows had increased by 8.0%.

강제어초의 효율성에 관한 현장조사 (Field Investigation on the Efficiency of the Artificial Steel Reefs)

  • As part of the government's fishery resource creation policy, fishing ground creation projects have been undertaken in Korea's major seashore fishing spots since the 1970s, where artificial reefs constructed using new materials that make up for the weakness of concrete reefs have been used. In this study, the stability of these artificial reefs when acted upon by external forces, their ability to attract and gather fish, and their economic feasibility were examined. For this purpose, an experimental artificial steel reef was constructed and was installed in an area of the sea. Then the corrosion of the experimental material attached to it was investigated. The efficiency of the artificial steel reef was then verified by examining its functionality, removal, and burying, as well as the speed of insertion of living things into its structure and its ability to attract and gather fish.

다공질 인공어초 (반톱니형)에서 진행된 해조천이 및 해중림 조성 (Restoration of the Seaweed Forest and Algal Succession on a Porous Type (Shaped Half Saw Teeth) Artificial Reef)

  • The succession of marine benthic algae and the restoration of an artificial seaweed forest on a porous type (shaped half saw teeth) artificial reef at Jeju island, Korea was studied. Young thalli of Sargassum horneri and Ecklonia cava were attached to different artificial substrates. In general, the succession on the artificial reefs led from filamentous algae to perennial algae and involved more than 25 species that are useful fishery resources, including E. cava. Coralline algae were dominant on the artificial reefs at the Kangjung site. The maximum algal biomass on the artificial reef in October 2005 was $1,990g/m^2$ at Biyang. In conclusion, a climax community and seaweed forest can be attained one year after the substrate is constructed.

배치 형태에 따른 사각형 복합 인공어초의 침하 및 세굴 특성 (Characteristics of Settlement and Scour of Square-Shaped Hybrid Reef according to Placement Types)

  • 본 연구에서는 지오그리드로 보강된 사각형 복합 인공어초의 침하 및 세굴 특성을 알아보기 위해 대형 수조 침하 실험, 2차원 흐름 수조 실험 등 다양한 실내 실험을 수행하였다. 또한 인공어초의 각 배치 형태(배치도 A; 나란히 배치된 형태, 배치도 B; 지그재그로 배치된 형태)에 따른 세굴 특성을 알아보기 위해 수치해석을 수행하였다. 실내 실험 결과 무보강된 인공어초에 비해 지오그리드가 보강된 인공어초의 침하 및 세굴 깊이가 크게 저감되었다. 인공어초 배치 형태에 따른 세굴 특성을 알아보기 위한 흐름 수조 실험과 수치해석을 수행한 결과 배치도 A의 세굴 깊이와 유속 벡터는 배치도 B보다 더 감소하는 경향을 보였다.
