Low-cost and large-scale fabrication method of nanohole array, which comprises nanoscale voids separated by a few tens to a few hundreds of nanometers, has opened up new possibilities in biomolecular sensing as well as novel frontier optical devices. One of the key aspects of the nanohole array research is how to control the hole size following each specific needs of the hole structure. Here, we report the extensive study on the fine control of the hole size within the range of 500-2500 nm via surface-catalyzed chemical deposition. The initial hole structures were prepared via conventional photo-lithography, and the hole size was decreased to a designed value through the surface-catalyzed chemical reduction of the gold ion on the predefined hole surfaces, by simple dipping of the hole array device into the aqueous solution of gold chloride and hydroxylamine. The final hole size was controlled by adjusting reaction time, and the optimal experimental condition was obtained by doing a series of characterization experiments. The characterization of size-controlled hole array was systematically examined on the image results of optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), atomic-force microscopy(AFM), and total internal reflection microscopy.
Chronic diabetic patients need to sample capillary blood for monitoring and controlling the blood sugar level. Frequent sampling requires to minimize pain during skin puncture. The present study developed mechanisms to minimize pain with effective sampling procedure. which consisted of tapered spring, guiding tunnel, and 30G needle Penetration depth was limited to within 2mm for pain reduction as well as for safety. Simple no-reuse mechanism also prevented the cross-patient and secondary infection possibility. Clinical experiments demonstrated the best convenience and safety with minimal pain in the diabetes, normal, and nursing students groups. Sing1e blood sampling was enough for successful blood sugar test by portable analyzer. The present sing1e use auto-lancet should be of great convenience in frequent capillary blood sampling for the diabetes.
Mobile digital devices are very familiar and useful devices in the daily life of modern people, and are used for various tasks such as communication, reading, writing, and playing media. As the use of mobile digital devices has become more prevalent, user time has also been increasing. In particular, the number of people who use digital devices before sleep is growing. The light pollution associated with these devices is classified into four categories: urban sky glow, glare, light trespass, and clutter. The pattern in which modern people use digital devices corresponds to light pollution caused by light trespass and clutter from light exposure to artificial light at night. The light pollution caused by digital devices can cause melatonin secretion suppression, delayed sleep onset, reduction of sleepiness before bedtime, and periodic rhythm and cognitive function disturbances. In addition, a study of children and adolescents showed there may be disturbances in the sleep-wake cycle and circadian rhythm, deterioration of sleep quality, and daytime fatigue due to light pollution caused by artificial light at night from mobile digital devices. A multi-faceted research effort is also necessary to investigate the healthy use of mobile digital devices based on research evidence and insights with an accurate evaluation of the influence of mobile digital devices as a form of light pollution.
The capacitance-temperature (C-T) measurement technique is proposed in the present work to investigate the thermal stability of organic and polymeric thin films for organic electroluminescent display (OELD). The single layer devices with the individual materials were subjected to the C-T measurement, prior to the examination of the complete OELD. The single layer devices with the small molecules destroyed below $180\;^{\circ}C$ depending on the kinds of materials. However, the device with the hole-transporting polyimide did not show any relaxation up to $200\;^{\circ}C$. The small molecule based OELDs failed to emit light after annealing, whereas that with the hole-transporting polyimide worked well in spite of large reduction in intensity.
In this article, we have designed and synthesized a novel donor-${\pi}$-acceptor (D-${\pi}$-A) type porphyrin-based sensitizer (denoted UI-5), in which a carboxyl anchoring group and a 9,9-dimethyl fluorene were introduced at the meso-positions of porphyrin ring via phenylethynyl and ethynyl bridging units, respectively. Long alkoxy chains in ortho-positions of the phenyls were supposed to reduce the degree of dye aggregation, which tends to affect electron injection yield in a photovoltaic cell. The cyclic voltammetry was employed to determine the band gap of UI-5 to be 1.41 eV based on the HOMO and LUMO energy levels, which were estimated by the onset oxidation and reduction potentials. The incident monochromatic photon-to-current conversion efficiency of the UI-5 DSSC assembled with double-layer (20 nm-sized $TiO_2$/400 nm-sized $TiO_2$) film electrodes appeared lower upon overall ranges of the excitation wavelengths, but exhibited a higher value over the NIR ranges (${\lambda}$ = 650-700 nm) compared to the common reference sensitizer N719. The UI-5-sensitized cell yielded a relatively poor device performance with an overall conversion efficiency of 0.74% with a short circuit photocurrent density of $3.05mA/cm^2$, an open circuit voltage of 0.54 mV and a fill factor of 0.44 under the standard global air mass (AM 1.5) solar conditions. However, our report about the synthesis and the photovoltaic characteristics of a porphyrin-based sensitizer in a D-${\pi}$-A structure demonstrated a significant complex relationship between the sensitizer structure and the cell performance.

Application of plasma technology on microbial sterilization has been frequently studied. In spite of accumulating number of studies, many have been focused on bacteria. Reports on eukaryotic yeasts and filamentous fungi are limited. In addition, mechanism of plasma effect still needs to be clarified. In this study, we analyzed the effect of non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma on the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae using DBD-type device. When yeast cells were exposed to plasma (at 2 mm distance) and then cultured on YPD-agar plate, number of cells survived (shown as colony) were reduced proportionally to exposure time. More than 50% reduction in number of colonies were observed after twice exposure of 5min. each. Colonies much smaller than those of control (no plasma exposure) were appeared after twice exposure of 5 min. each. It seems that small colonies are resulted from delayed cell growth due to the damage caused by plasma treatment. Microscopic analysis demonstrates that yeast cells treated with plasma for 5 min. twice have more rough and shrinked shape compared to oval shape with smooth surface of control.

In this work, improvement of mechanical and electrical properties of gate dielectric layer for flexible organic thin film transistor (OTFT) devices was investigated. In order to increase the mechanical flexibility of PVP (poly(4-vinyl phenol) organic gate dielectric, a very thin inorganic $HfO_2$ layers with the thickness of $5{\sim}20nm$ was inserted in between the spin-coated PVP layers. Insertion of the inorganic $HfO_2$ in the laminated organic/inorganic structure of PVP/$HfO_2$/PVP layer led to a dramatic reduction in the leakage current compared to the pure PVP layer. Under repetitive cyclic bending, the leakage current density of the laminated PVP/$HfO_2$/PVP layer with the thickness of 20-nm $HfO_2$ layer was not changed, while that of the single PVP layer was increased significantly. Mechanical flexibility tests of the OTFT devices by cyclic bending with 5 mm bending radius indicated that the leakage current of the laminated PVP/$HfO_2$(20 nm)/PVP gate dielectric in the device structure was also much smaller than that of the single PVP layer.
This paper describes the development of various lighting equipment adapting Ultra Constant Discharge Lamp that has newly been on commercial supply in the market. Meeting the required conditions of lighting equipment, various types of UCD Lamp equipment with excellent performances could be successfully developed. In order to provide a guideline for the economical lighting product selection, the analyzed data comparison between Hi-pressure Sodium Lamp which has been the most popular lamp for street lighting and UCD Lamp is provided. The conclusions of the study are made as follows; (1) The performance measurement result of UCD Lamp shows excellent Luminous Efficacy as 108Lm/W, daylight-like Color Rendering Index as 90Ra, and the best operating temperature range as $-50^{\circ}C{\sim}+85^{\circ}C$. Comparing to the Hi-pressure Sodium Lamp, UCD could be evaluated as much superior products. (2) In an assembled status with the lighting fixture (Type STB형-60W), UCD Lamp was tested OK for one hour duration at the temperature range form $-50^{\circ}C$ to $+85^{\circ}C$ and the humidity of 98%. The operation at the extremely low temperature can be an excellent feature to enable the export to the cold temperature regions such as Northern Europe and Russia and the specific applications for defense systems and special industry. (3) As UCD Lamp is a genuine Korea made product following Energy-saving and Eco-friendly policy, it should be appreciated as one of the best $CO^2$ reduction Green product.

Fast Fourier transform(FFT) is powerful, fast computation framework for convolution in many image restoration application. However, an actually observed image acquired with finite aperture of the acquisition device from the infinite background and it lost data outside the cropped region. Because of these the boundary artifacts are produced. This paper reviewed and summarized the up to date the techniques that have been applied to reduce of the boundary artifacts. Moreover, we propose a new block-based fast image restoration using combined extrapolation and edge-tapering without boundary artifacts with reduced computational loads. We apply edgetapering to the inner blocks because they contain outside information of boundary. And outer blocks use half-convolution extrapolation. For this process it is possible that fast image restoration without boundary artifacts.

When lighting has installed indoor, we control lighting using human-detecting sensors for people who pass at night and places that are lack of quantity of light. However, malfunction can be caused by positions of inappropriate sensors, and in the case of passages of big buildings, it is a problem that even after a person pass, light apparatuses are turned on for a long time. In this paper, we propose lighting control system based on location positioning for energy saving that control lighting in accordance with passers's position through indoor location positioning. This system use the fingerprinting technology that is one of the location positioning technologies and RSSI data that is collected by a smart device. Using those, it can turn on only lightings that are included in the positioned location and reduce unnecessary power consumption. As a result of experiment, on condition that four people were existing and illumination was 308 lux, we assured reduction effect of 49 Wh.
