Developing Health Education Programs for Health Promotion: Development of a Training Guide on Prevention of Smoking and Excessive Drinking

  • Background: Alcohol and tobacco use are two major behavioral risk factors implicated in increased morbidity and mortality. Since both substances are widely used in Korea, a concerted effort is currently underway to reduce the use of tobacco and alcohol in Korea. Objectives: Efforts directed toward preparing health promotion planners and health educators from local health departments to organize and implement community-wide interventions to reduce the proportion of people smoking and reduce the average level of alcohol consumption in the community. Methods: Comprehensive multi-media health promotion materials were developed based on health behavior theories and strategies. The materials were developed to introduce a user-oriented developmental approach by making messages more persuasive and organizing content in a user-friendly manner. Health educators from all local health departments in the country were trained in the use of the materials, to enable them to develop community interventions to reduce smoking and drinking. Implications for Practitioners: The process followed in developing the health intervention materials is described in detail to assist practitioners who need to develop effective programs to reduce the use of tobacco and alcohol. Sections of the report explain health intervention theories, specific program activities to include in an intervention, development, organization, evaluation, choosing a target audience, choosing goals of an intervention, and methods of making program content vivid and persuasive.

  • 본 논문에서는, 맵-리듀스 모델 기반에서 나이브 베이스 알고리즘으로 학습과 추론을 수행하는 방안에 대해 소개하고자 한다. 이를 위해 Apache Mahout를 이용하여 분산 나이브 베이스 (Distributed Naive Bayes) 학습 알고리즘을 University of California, Irvine (UCI)의 벤치마크 데이터 집합에 적용하였다. 실험 결과, Apache Mahout의 분산 나이브 베이스 학습 알고리즘은 일반적인 WEKA의 나이브 베이스 학습 알고리즘과 그 성능면에서 큰 차이가 없음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는, 향후 빅 데이터 환경에서 Apache Mahout와 같은 맵-리듀스 모델 기반 시스템이 기계 학습에 큰 기여를 할 수 있음을 나타내는 것이다.

  • This paper describes an outline of the sampling design for crop area survey and product survey in Korea. The design attempts to from a double statification, to obtain an efficient allocation of the sample and to reduce the sampling error by establishign crop concentrated strata. The optimum numbers of sample field and sample plot are investigated. The design is made it possible to reduce the sampling errors as well as to reduce the sample size further than the present survey.

  • This invited paper introduces results on Web science and technology obtained during work with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. In the first part, we discuss algorithms for exploring the deep Web, which refers to the collection of Web pages that cannot be reached by conventional Web crawlers. In the second part, we discuss sorting algorithms on the MapReduce system, which has become a dominant paradigm for massive parallel computing.

  • The interaction between a vibrating structure and a surrounding acoustic medium determines the acoustic power propagating into the far-field. A straightforward method to reduce the radiated power is to reduce the vibration of the structure. However it is more efficient to control the modes of the structure separately since each vibration mode of the structure has different radiation efficiency. An efficient method to reduce the sound radiation in the low frequency region is proposed by reducing the radiation efficiency of the structure.

고속도로 매표방법 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study to Reduce the Waiting Time in the Toll Gate)

  • Most of the companies are forced to cut down the manufacturing cost to survive in the competitive environment. Among others, material distribution cost alone takes substantial portion of the total manufacturing cost. In this study, we investigate the waiting phenomenon in the toll gate and propose a new toll booth layout to reduce the waiting time, thereby reduce the total material distribution cost. SIMAN, a simulation language, is employed to evaluate the proposed layout. The experimental results show that the layout reduces the waiting time significantly. Furthermore, the result indicates that determination of the intermediate buffer space affects the performance of the proposed layout.

  • Two servo control algorithms are suggested to reduce the tracking error of a computer hard disk drive. One is the repetitive control to reduce the repeatable tracking error which is not explicitly taken into account in the design of a conventional controller. This algorithm was successfully applied to a commercial disk using a fixed point DSP. The other is the multi-rate sampling control which generates the control output between each sampling times since the sampling time of hard disk drives is limited. These algorithms were shown effectively to reduce tracking errors.

  • There were no cases to use CJM Grouting to Reduce the Permeability of open-cut in Alluvium adjacent to Han River. In this paper, the applicability of CJM Grouting to Reduce the Permeability in Alluvium is reasonably estimated by in-situ Permeability test and coring. It is known that the range of improvement is decided by injection pressure, time of high pressure water and by slump, injection pressure of injection materials.

  • IEEE 802.11 MAC uses a distributed coordination function (DCF) known as carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) for medium access. Random back-off algorithm helps to avoid the collision. This paper proposes virtual back-off and modified back-off algorithm for reduce a waiting time by back-off and reduce the collision. The modified DCF is consisted of these two algorithms. We expect to reduce the average waiting time of each transmission by using the modified DCF algorithm.
