Fining and homogenization of melts during batch melting is closely related to the redox reaction of polyvalent element M (M: Sb, As etc), $M^{(x+n)+}+n/2O^{2-}{\rightarrow}M^{x+}+n/4O_2$. In this study, square wave voltammetry (SWV) measurements were performed to examine the redox behavior of an antimony ion in cathode ray tube (CRT) glass melts. According to results, well-separated two peaks are shown at low temperature while only one peak is shown at high temperature in voltammograms, which reveals that redox reaction of antimony consist of two steps: $Sb^{5+}/Sb^{3+}\;and\;Sb^{3+}/Sb^0$, depending on the temperature. Based on the peak potential shown in the voltammogram, the thermodynamic data and the redox ratio for two redox couple were determined.
Cooperative effects of Rh, Ce and Zr added to Fe-based oxide mediums were investigated using temperature programmed redox reaction (TPR/TPO) and isothermal redox reaction in the view point of hydrogen storage and release. As the results of TPR/TPO, Rh was a sale additive to remarkably promote the redox reaction on the medium as evidenced by the lower highest peak temperature, even though its addition was to accelerate deactivation of the mediums due to sintering. On the other hand, Ce and Zr additives played an important role to suppress deactivation of the medium in repeated redox cycles. The medium co-added by Rh, Ce and Zr (FRCZ) exhibited synergistic performance in the repeated isothermal redox reaction, and the amount of hydrogen produced in the water splitting step at 623 K was highly maintained at ca. $17\;mmol{\cdot}g^{-1}-Fe$ during three repeated redox cycles.

We fabricated self-assembled monolayers(SAMs) onto quartz crystal microbalance(QCM) using viologen, which has been widely used as electron acceptor and electron transfer mediator. The viologen derivative exist in three redox states, namely. These redox reactions are highly reversible and can be cycled many times without significant side reactions, respectively. We studied the characteristics of charge transfer using different electrolyte solutions by electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM). From the data, the redox peak currents were nearly equal charges during redox reaction and existed to an excellent linear interrelation between the scan rates and first redox peak currents. The redox reactions of viologen were highly reversible and the EQCM has been employed to monitor the electrochemically induced adsorption of SAMs during the redox reactions.

The chemical behavior and properties related to the redox state of environmental pollutants were investigated using electrochemical methods. Measurements were taken of variations in the redox potential and cyclic polarization current. The results established the influence of various factors, including concentration, temperature, salt, and pH, on the redox potential and current. These factors were determined to effect the result of the redox reaction. Optimum conditions were also established for each case. It was clearly established that the electrode reaction was from a reversible to an irreversible process, plus it was also mixing reaction current controlled.
Mitochondria dysfunction was first described in the 1960s. However, the extent and mechanisms of mitochondria dysfunction's role in cellular physiology and pathology has only recently begun to be appreciated. To adequately evaluate mitochondria-mediated toxicity, it is not only necessary to understand mitochondria biology, but discerning mitochondrial redox biology is also essential. The latter is intricately tied to mitochondrial bioenergetics. Mitochondrial free radicals, antioxidants, and antioxidant enzymes are players in mitochondrial redox biology. This review will provide an across-the-board, albeit not in-depth, overview of mitochondria biology and mitochondrial redox biology. With accumulating knowledge on mitochondria biology and mitochondrial redox biology, we may devise experimental methods with adequate sensitivity and specificity to evaluate mitochondrial toxicity, especially in vivo in living organisms, in the near future.
Screen printed carbon electrodes (SPEs) modified with co-immobilized osmium-based redox polymers can be used to apply multi-detecting biosensors. In this study, we report our initial studies of multi-detecting biosensor concepts using two osmium-based redox polymers for horseradish peroxidase-mediated reduction of ${H_2}{O_2}$ coupled to glucose oxidase-mediated oxidation of glucose. We target to synthesize two osmium redox polymers of potentials use, a chloride-containing redox polymer ($E^{O'}$ + 0.520 vs. Ag/AgCl) and a methoxy-containing redox polymer $E^{O'}$ + 0.150 vs. Ag/AgCl). The former show good catalytic electrical signals with horseradish peroxidase and the latter's redox polymer is to be an effective redox mediator of glucose oxidation by glucose oxidase.
Five sediment cores from the tidal flat of artificial Lake Shihwa are analyzed in terms of sedimentology and geochemistry to evaluate the heavy metal contamination and redox condition of surficial sediment following the Shihwa seawall construction. The variability of concentrations of various elements depends on the depositional environment, and reflects the various redox conditions and sediment provenances. The amounts of Ti and Al and their ratio of Ti/ Al with respect to Li clearly indicate that there is an anthropogenic contribution to the surficial sediment. The high concentrations of heavy metals suggest an anthropogenic contribution at ST. 34 and ST. 22. Concentrations of most elements (Cr, Cu, Zn and Pb) are higher near the Shihwa-Banwol industrial complex than in the central part of Lake Shihwa. Concentrations of heavy metal in surficial sediment near the Shihwa-Banwol industrial complex are two to eight times higher than in the center of Lake Shihwa. Enrichment factors (EF), which are normalized by the unpolluted shale, suggests a significant metallic contamination near the Shihwa-Banwol industrial complex (SBIC). The redox condition is divided into two anoxic and mixed oxi $c_oxic zones based on the carbon:sulfur (C/S) ratios of organic matter and elemental relationships. Correlations among geochemical elements Mn, U and Mo are significantly different from site to site, and may therefore be an indicator of the spatial redox condition. Controlling factors for switching anoxic/oxic conditions are thought to be water depth and the differences in industrial effluent supply. The variations of the Cu/Mn ratio in the sediments confirms above mentioned spatial differences of a redox condition in part, and therefore shows a location-dependence redox condition in sediments at four other sites. The redox condition of the surficial sediment characteristics of the Shihwa Lake are controlled by its geographic location and water depth.th.
The water soluble redox polymer, poly(N-vinylimidazole) complexed with Os(4,4'-dichloro-2,2'-bipyridine)$_2Cl]^+$ (PVI-[Os(dCl-bpy)$_2Cl]^+$), was electrodeposited on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode by applying cycles of alternating square wave potentials between 0.2 V (2 s) and 0.7 V (2 s) to the electrode in a solution containing the redox polymer. The coordinating anionic ligand, $Cl^-$ of the osmium complex, became labile in the reduced state of the complex and was substituted by the imidazole of the PVI chain. The ligand substitution reactions resulted in crosslinking between the PVI chains, which made the redox polymer water insoluble and caused it to be deposited on the electrode surface. The deposited film was still electrically conducting and the continuous electrodeposition of the redox polymer was possible. When cycles of square wave potentials were applied to the electrode in a solution of bilirubin oxidase and the redox polymer, the enzyme was co-electrodeposited with the redox polymer, because the enzymes could be bound to the metal complexes through the ligand exchange reactions. The electrode with the film of the PVI-[Os(dCl-bpy)$_2Cl]^+$ redox polymer and the co-electrodeposited bilirubin oxidase was employed for the reduction of $O_2$ and a large increase of the currents was observed due to the electrocatalytic $O_2$ reduction with a half wave potential at 0.42 V vs. Ag/AgCl.
An assembled-graphite/DSA(Dimensionally Stable Anode) was prepared using graphite powder to increase durability and energy efficiency of redox flow battery and investigated its electrochemical properties in vanadium-based electrolyte. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) was carried out in the voltage range of -0.7V and 1.6V vs. SCE at 5 mV/sec scan rate to analyze vanadium redox reaction. From the CV results, the assembled-graphite/DSA electrode showed a fast couple reaction and good reversibility in 2M $VOSO_4$ + 2.5 M $H_2SO_4$ electrolyte. Therefore, it has been expected that this electrode increases power density as well as energy density of redox flow battery.
The homeostasis of the pyridine nucleotide pool [NAD(P)H and NAD(P)$^+$] is maintained in Rhodobacter sphaeroides mutant strains defective in the cytochrome bci complex or the cytochrome c oxidases in terms of its concentration and redox state. Aerobic derepression of the puf operon, which is under the control of the PrrBA two-component system, in the CBB3 mutant strain of R. sphaeroides was shown to be not the result of changes in the redox state of the pyridine nucleotides and the ubiquinone/ubiquinol pool. Using the bc$_1$ complex knock-out mutant strain of R. sphaeroides, we clearly demonstrated that the inhibitory effect of cbb$_3$, oxidase on spectral complex formation is not caused indirectly by the redox change of the ubiquinone/ubiquinol pool.
