Analysis of a coupled waveguide structure using the edge element method (변유한요소법을 이용한 결합구조를 갖는 도파관 구조의 해석)

  • An edge finite element method is applied to calculate the field distribution of a coupled waveguide structure. We compares a node based finite element method with the edge element one. For 2-d eigenvalue problems of waveguide structures, the former generates spurious eigenmodes, but the latter dose not. Using an simple rectangular waveguide, we implement both methods to obtain some results of field computation in waveguide. The paper shows that the finite element method using edge elements succeeds in suppressing spurious solutions.

  • In this paper, a novel waveguide low pass filter for satellite communication is proposed. The proposed low pass filter is designed to obtain wideband characteristics without the interference of higher order modes, sufficient attenuation in the stop-band and small sized lightweight characteristics by evanescent-mode ridge structure. To improve return loss and rejection loss, rectangular ring is inserting around the ridges in the waveguide. Input and output ports of the low pass filter is designed by using the impedance step structure for the impedance matching of the filter. The proposed waveguide low pass filter is fabricated and then measured as return loss over 19.5 dB, insertion loss less than 1.41 dB at the pass-band of 7.25 ~ 8.4 GHz and rejection loss over 67.2 dB at the stop-band of 12.25 ~ 14.5 GHz.

  • A narrow slot in the broad wall of a rectangular waveguide is analysed using a Spatial Network Method[1] which takes account of the waveguide wall thickness. In essence, SNM is used to solve arbitrary shape and materials constant, derived from maxwell's equations to find the tangential electric fields on the upper and lower surfaces of the slot. In this paper, applying to the offset and length[2] which yield a zero equivalent shunt susceptance, analysing single and 4 array slot antenna. The current of the transient analysis shows each the times. Analysed result of SNM is verified by the method of moment and HFSS.

  • In this paper, the accurate characterization of the input impedance of a rectangular waveguide with a conducting post and the other discontinuity is presented using mode matching method and the equivalent transmission line theory. By the proposed method, the input impedance of rectangular waveguide with a conducting post and the other discontinuity as a function of the radius and height of the post, the reflection coefficient of the other discontinuity, and the distance between the post and the other discontinuity is calculated. The simulated result shows good agreement with the experimental result by Marcuvitz.

  • Ray-optics approach based on the rigorous coupled wave theory, called by the rigorous ray-optics method (RROM), is developed for the calculation of couling coefficients of waveguide grating devices. The coupling coefficients of several grating structures, such as rectangular, sinusoidal, triangle, and trapezoidal shapes, are determined by the RROM, and they are compared with those obtained by conventional methods of the ray-optics method (ROM) and the coupled mode method (CMM). In the case of rectangular gratings, the coupling coefficients is evaluated in detail by various depths and duty-cycles of the grating. We have found that the RROM gives more exact solutions for the coupling coefficients of even arbitrary shapes of diffractive waveguide grating devices than the other conventional methods.

  • We design and fabricate the 94 GHz Coplanar waveguide(CPW)-to-rectangular waveguide transition that is transmits signal smoothly between the CPW, which is a popular transmission line of the planar circuits, and rectangular waveguide for the 94 GHz transceiver system. The proposed transition composed of the unilateral fin-line taper and open type CPW-to-slot-line transition is based on the hard and inflexible sapphire for the flip-chip bonding of the planar MMICs using conventional MMIC technology. We optimize a single section transition to achieve low loss by using an EM field solver of Ansoft's HFSS and fabricate the back- to-back transition that is measured by Anritsu ME7808A Vector Network Analyzer in a frequency range of $85{\sim}105$ GHz. From the measurement and do-embedding CPW with 3 mm length, an insertion and return loss of a single-section transition are 1.7 dB and more an 25 than at 94 GHz, respectively.

  • In this paper, electromagnetic radiation from a slot array antenna enclosed by a Von Karman radome is analyzed by using the ray tracing method and Huygens's principle. We consider the rectangular slot array antenna and the Von Karman radome. The radiation patterns are calculated by using the surface currents of the radome to illustrate the electromagnetic behaviors of the radome-enclosed waveguide slot array antenna.

  • Traveling wave laser phase modulator, which is consist of rectangular waveguide paritially loaded with electrooptic material, is analysed theoretically. The propagation characteristics, electric field, attenuation, and modulation index are obtained in terms of normalized parameters. It is shown that high modulation index is achieved with relatively low modulating power. And also design procedure of modulator is described with particulary refererenece to KDP.

  • This paper presents an analysis of a slot on the broad wall of a rectangular waveguide using the 3D FDTD method. In order to reduce the reflection loss, Mur's 2nd absorbing boundary condition is used. To realize the optimum design by FDTD, the effects of time step, excitation aperture size, analysis region and excitation position in model are derived. The analysis results are compared with the experimental results and they show a good agreement with each other.
