  • Purpose: Nasal bone fracture is the most common type of facial bone fracture. The standard 6-view photography was not adequate to support the evaluation of nasal deformity and the results of closed reduction. The authors have standardized a bird's eye view photography to more effectively evaluate this nasal deformity. Methods: We reviewed the medical records and radiologic studies of 63 nasal bone fracture patients. We had taken clinical photography including bird's eye view that was standardized as nasal tip was aligned to Cupid's bow of upper lip and light was focused on the nasion of all 63 patients. Results: Nasal deviations and reductions were more noticeable on the newly standardized bird's eye view. This clinical photography was very useful to explain the results of reduction. Conclusion: It was concluded that this photography can be more reliable for evaluation of severity of nasal deformity and the result of closed reduction.

  • This paper aims to interrogate the layered and dependent structure of the modern and official document management in Korea and Japan from 1894 to 1910. The focus of its study is on documents related with the strategic infrastructure construction in Jeonbuk Province through an analysis from the perspective of historic archival studies. For this study, the chosen period was when Japanese imperialists were on their way to seize the Korean official archival system. As such, our objects are the documents connected with the institution of the Japanese resident-general system in Korea and its infrastructural constructions as part of Japan's war plans of invading the continent. Among others, we examined the documents of the strategic infrastructure construction around Jeonju in Jeonbuk Province by Imperial Japan, in order to wage the Sino-Japanese War and subdue the Donghak Peasant Revolution. More specifically, we illuminate the sources and organization of the approval of the original documents in a higher level that is relevant to the determination of political, financial, and personnel matters, which were designed for the Japanese governmental rule over Korea from the era of the Gabo Reform to the period of the Japanese resident-generals, as well as analyze the actual states of the official documents ina lower level, which were drawn up by Korean government and the resident-general. Consequently, this paper suggests that official Korean archival system at this time must be understood under the context of a layered and dependent structure within the vertical connections between Korea and Japan, and not from the point of view of a national history.

  • Background The pedicled anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap has become more popular for the reconstruction of soft-tissue defects in neighboring areas. Nonetheless, few studies in the literature have explored the use of this flap for trochanteric ulcer reconstruction. The aim of our study is to present the author's experience of utilizing the ALT flap, with a focus on technical elements regarding the flap design and the tunneling method to maximize the reach of the flap. Methods The medical records of patients who received pedicled ALT flaps for the reconstruction of trochanteric pressure sores were retrospectively reviewed. The patients' demographic data, operative details, and postoperative complications were evaluated. Results Between October 2018 and December 2019, 10 consecutive patients (age range, 13-45 years) underwent 11 pedicled ALT myocutaneous flaps for trochanteric pressure sore reconstruction. Each flap was designed around the most distal cutaneous perforator that was included in the proximal third of the skin paddle. The flaps ranged in size from 11×6 to 14×8 cm. The ALT flap was transposed through a lateral subcutaneous tunnel in five patients, while the open tunnel technique was used in six patients. All flaps survived, and no vascular compromise was observed. Conclusions The pedicled ALT flap is a safe and reliable option for reconstructing trochanteric pressure sores. An appropriate flap design and a good choice of the tunneling method are crucial for successful flap transposition.

  • This study investigated research trends in digital curation indexed in a prominent domestic academic information database. A systematic literature review was conducted on 39 academic papers published from 2009 to 2023. The review examined indexing status according to publication year, venue, academic discipline, research area distribution, research affiliation and occupation, and research types. In addition, network centrality analysis and cohesive group analysis were performed on 69 author keywords. The findings revealed several key points. First, digital curation research peaked in 2015 and 2016 with 5 publications each year, followed by a slight decrease, and then consistently produced 4 or more publications annually since 2019. Second, among the 39 studies, 25 were conducted in interdisciplinary fields, including library and information science, while 11 were in the humanities, such as miscellaneous humanities. The most prominent research areas were theoretical and infrastructural aspects, information management and services, and institutional domains. Third, digital curation research was predominantly led by university-affiliated professors and researchers, with collaborative research more prevalent than solo research. Lastly, analysis of author keywords revealed that "digital curation," "institution," and "content" were the most influential central keywords within the overall network.

  • Background: Although the zygomatic arch is an important structure determining facial prominence and width, no consensus exists regarding the classification of isolated zygomatic arch fractures, and the literature on this topic is scarce. To date, five papers have subdivided zygomatic arch fractures; however, only one of those proposed classifications includes the injury vector, although the injury vector is one of the most important factors to consider in fracture cases. Furthermore, the only classification that does include the injury vector is too complicated to be suitable for daily practice. In addition, the existing classifications are clinically limited because they do not consider greenstick fractures, nondisplaced fractures, or coronoid impingement. In the present study, we present a rearrangement of the previously published classifications and propose a modified classification of isolated zygomatic arch fractures that maximizes the advantages and overcomes the disadvantages of previous classification systems. Methods: The classification criteria for isolated zygomatic arch fractures described in five previous studies were analyzed, rearranged, and supplemented to generate a modified classification. The medical records, radiographs, and facial bone computed tomography findings of 134 patients with isolated zygomatic arch fractures who visited our hospital between January 2010 and December 2019 were also retrospectively analyzed. Results: We analyzed major classification criteria (displacement, the force vector of the injury, V-shaped fracture, and coronoid impingement) for isolated zygomatic arch fracture from the five previous studies and developed a modified classification by subdividing zygomatic arch fractures. We applied the modified classification to cases of isolated zygomatic arch fracture at our hospital. The surgery rate and injury severity differed significantly from fracture types I to VI. Conclusion: Using our modified classification, we could determine that both the injury force and the injury vector meaningfully influenced the surgery rate and the severity of the injuries.

  • Four volumes of the script of the Avatamska Sutra written with golden paste on dark blue papers manufactured in Koryo Dynasty which are collected or deposited in every museum of Japan show specific features on their cover paintings. In general 3 or 4 lotus flowers are wound by arabesque patterns in zigzag on the cover paintings of Koryo scripts, whereas 10 lotus flowers painted with golden paste on the 4 volumes of these scripts are same in their style. Though there is no prayer sentences in 4 volumes of the script, it is possible to know that they should belong to a set of 80 Avatamska Sutra by the results of above studies. In this study the contents of Byunsangwha of the script of 4 volumes of the Avatamska Sutra were discussed at first and their manufactured era should be postulated by the results of style analysis of cover paintings and Byunsangwha. First thing that saint hair of Buddha was painted with cobalt color is same as that of Byunsangwha of Munsuchoisangsungmusenggebueob prayed in Tejeong 3rd year, king Chungsuk 13th year(AD 1326). Second thing that the beads in topknot of saint hair and lips were painted completely with pink color, and ears, face outline as well as bosom outline disclosed through monk's cloth were also painted with pink color, furthermore the last thing is that Buddha's face was coated with golden paste. All of these things are same as shown in the characteristics of Byunsangwha of the scripts of Kanezawa Daishoji, Matsue Tenrinji and Haga Tera collection in Japan. However, since the cloud pattern style of Byunsangwha of the script is similar to that of the Byunsangwha manufactured in reinstatement era of king Chungsuk, it is possible to say that these 4 volumes of script should be manufactured in the reinstatement era of king Chungsuk.

  • Appraisal in electronic record environments is performed focusing on not content but function in which the records are created. Functional appraisal is practically supported in that electronic records composed of 0 and 1 of the bit-stream is unable to be evaluated individually. But the most important reason functional appraisal is performed in electronic record environments is that functional appraisal can select electronic records which assure business context and recordness, and need to run organization and perform business. In Korea, functional appraisal has adopted in course of renovation of national record and archive management system, but methods and logics of functional appraisal have numerous problems. To do so, this article discusses current appraisal system and methods of korea which has renovated confronting with electronic record environments, and then proposes the improvement directions on appraisal system and methods of Korea in electronic record environments from the perspective of long-term views. In this respect, this article proposes the improvement directions on current appraisal system and methods of Korea as follows. First, business functional analysis of each agency in functional appraisal should greatly strengthen. Second, it is necessary to devise proper methods for selecting primary values at current stage of electronic records, and to reinforce appraisal of records as knowledges and informations. Finally, functional appraisal, which inevitably carries out for appraising electronic records, has defects in aspect of selecting archives important in a national point of views. Therefore this article suggests the necessity of archival appraisal strategies that complement functional appraisal. This appraisal system is able to establish a base of the regime of archival appraisal which will harmonize primary value at current stage with secondary value at non-current stage in a national point of views.

  • South Africa implemented apartheid from 1948 to 1994. The main content of this policy was to classify races such as whites, Indians, mixed-race people, and blacks, and to limit all social activities, including residence, personal property ownership, and economic activities, depending on the class. All races except white people were discriminated against and suppressed for having different skin colors. South African citizens resisted the government's indiscriminate violence, and public opinion criticizing them expanded beyond the local community to various parts of the world. One of the things that made this possible was photographs detailing the scene of the violence. Foreign journalists who captured popular oppression as well as photographers from South Africa were immersed in recording the lives of those who were marginalized and suffered on an individual level. If they had not been willing to inform the reality and did not actually record it as a photo, many people would not have known the horrors of the situation caused by racial discrimination. Therefore, this paper focuses on Rise and Fall of Apartheid: Photography and the Bureau of Everyday Life, which captures various aspects of apartheid and displays related records, and examines the aspects of racism committed in South Africa described in the photo. The exhibition covers the period from 1948 when apartheid began until 1995, when Nelson Mandela was elected president and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was launched to correct the wrong view of history. Many of the photos on display were taken by Peter Magubane, Ian Berry, David Goldblatt, and Santu Mofoken, a collection of museums, art galleries and media, including various archives. The photographs on display are primarily the work of photographers. It is both a photographic work and a media that proves South Africa's past since the 1960s, but it has been mainly dealt with in the field of photography and art history rather than from a historical or archival point of view. However, the photos have characteristics as records, and the contextual information contained in them is characterized by being able to look back on history from various perspectives. Therefore, it is very important to expand in the previously studied area to examine the time from various perspectives and interpret it anew. The photographs presented in the exhibition prove and describe events and people that are not included in South Africa's official records. This is significant in that it incorporates socially marginalized people and events into historical gaps through ordinary people's memories and personal records, and is reproduced in various media to strengthen and spread the context of record production.

  • RDBMS is a widely used database system worldwide, and the term dataset refers to the vast amount of data produced in administrative information systems using RDBMS. Unlike business systems that mainly produce administrative documents, administrative information systems generate records centered around the unique tasks of organizations. These records differ from traditional approval documents and metadata, making it challenging to seamlessly transfer them to standard record management systems. With the 2022 revision of the 'Public Records Act Enforcement Decree,' dataset was included in the types of records for which only management authority is transferred. The core aspect of this revision is the need to manage the lifecycle of records within administrative information systems. However, there has been little exploration into how to manage dataset within administrative information systems. As a result, this research aims to design a database for a record management module that needs to be integrated into administrative information systems to manage the lifecycle of records. By modifying and supplementing ISO 16175-1:2020, we are designing an "human resource management system" and identifying and evaluating personnel management dataset. Through this, we aim to provide a concrete example of record management within administrative information systems. It's worth noting that the prototype system designed in this research has limitations in terms of data volume compared to systems currently in use within organizations, and it has not yet been validated by record researchers and IT developers in the field. However, this endeavor has allowed us to understand the nature of dataset and how they should be managed within administrative information systems. It has also affirmed the need for a record management module's database within administrative information systems. In the future, once a complete record management module is developed and standards are established by the National Archives, it is expected to become a necessary module for organizations to manage dataset effectively.

  • Background Venous malformations (VMs) are a common type of vascular malformation. However, their causes and management remain unclear, and few studies specific to VMs of the head and neck have been reported. This study describes our experiences with VMs of the head and neck. Methods This retrospective study included 82 patients who underwent treatment for head and neck VMs, among 222 who visited our vascular anomalies center. Medical records between 2003 and 2016 were reviewed to identify common features in the diagnosis and treatment. The diagnosis of suspected head and neck VMs was based on the results of imaging studies or biopsies, and the VMs were analyzed based on magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and Doppler sonography findings. Results VMs were slightly more common in female patients (59.8%), and 45.1% of patients developed initial symptoms at the age of 10 or younger. Lesions were slightly more common on the right side (47.3%). The main sites involved were the cheek (27.7%) and lip area (25.5%). The muscle layer was commonly involved, in 98.7% of cases. Small lesions less than 5 cm in diameter accounted for 60.8% of cases, and well-defined types were slightly more prevalent at 55.4%. Improvement was observed in 77.1% of treated patients. Conclusions Early and accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment according to individual symptoms are important for successful treatment of VMs. If treatment is delayed, the lesions can worsen, or recurrence becomes more likely. Therefore, VMs require a multidisciplinary approach for early and accurate diagnosis.
