Recent progress in aromatic radiofluorination

  • Fluorine-18 is considered to be the radionuclide of choice for positron emission tomography (PET). Thus, the development of small molecule-based radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic imaging relies heavily on efficient radiofluorination techniques. Until the early 2000s, diaryliodonium salts and aryliodonium ylides were widely employed as labeling precursors to yield aromatic PET radiotracers with cyclotron-produced [18F]fluoride ion. Rapid recent progress in the development of efficient borylation methods has led to a paradigm shift in 18F-labeling methods. In addition, deoxyfluorination has attracted a great deal of interest as an alternative approach to aryl ring activation with 18F-. In this review, methods for radiolabel development are discussed with a specific focus on the progress made in the last 5 years. Other interesting 18F-based protocols are also briefly introduced. New methods for exploiting 18F- are expected to increase the number of 18F-labeling methods, to allow applications in a range of chemical environments.

Emerging Targets for Systemic Treatment of Gastric Cancer: HER2 and Beyond

  • In recent years, remarkable progress has been made in the molecular profiling of gastric cancer. This progress has led to the development of various molecular classifications to uncover subtype-specific dependencies that can be targeted for therapeutic interventions. Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is a crucial biomarker for advanced gastric cancer. The recent promising results of novel approaches, including combination therapies or newer potent agents such as antibody-drug conjugates, have once again brought attention to anti-HER2 targeted treatments. In HER2-negative diseases, the combination of cytotoxic chemotherapy and programmed cell death-1/programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-1/PD-L1) inhibitors has become the established standard of care in first-line settings. In the context of gastric cancer, potential biomarkers such as PD-L1 expression, Epstein-Barr virus, microsatellite instability, and tumor mutational burden are being considered for immunotherapy. Recently, promising results have been reported in studies on anti-Claudin18.2 and fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 treatments. Currently, many ongoing trials are aimed at identifying potential targets using novel approaches. Further investigations will be conducted to enhance the progress of these therapies, addressing challenges such as primary and acquired resistance, tumor heterogeneity, and clonal evolution. We believe that these efforts will improve patient prognoses. Herein, we discuss the current evidence of potential targets for systemic treatment, clinical considerations, and future perspectives.

  • Construction projects have shown a dramatic increase in size and complexity during the recent years that precise management has been recognized as one of key factors leading the project to success. It has been investigated that management in construction sites is generally done based on the experience of site engineers. Such experience based decision making lacks reliability that could bring disastrous results such as delay and cost overruns. The purpose of this study is to suggest a process progress pattern analysis method that is expected to be used as an objective reference for site managers to aid the decision making done regarding process progress management.

  • It is well known that crystal growth is an essential area of research for optoelectronic materials. In the present paper the growth techniques and the advanced progress in development of crystal materials important for optoelectronic applications are described. New growth techniques, developed in the authors' laboratory, enabling the introduction of expanded applications of new materials are presented. After a review of recent developments of new techniques for optoelectronic materials, own experimental studies will be discussed.

  • Recent progress in the development of non-invasive imaging technologies continues to strengthen the role of molecular imaging biological research. These tools have been validated recently in variety of research models, and have been shown to provide continuous quantitative monitoring of the location(s), magnitude, and time-variation of gene delivery and/or expression. This article reviews the use of radionuclide, magnetic resonance, and optical imaging technologies as they have been used in imaging gene delivery and gene expression for molecular imaging applications. The studies published to date demonstrate that noninvasive imaging tools will help to accelerate pre-clinical model validation as well as allow for clinical monitoring of human diseases.

  • This paper surveys recent remarkable progress in the study of potential theory for symmetric stable processes. It also contains new results on the two-sided estimates for Green functions Poisson kernels and Martin kernels of discontinuous symmetric $alpha$ -stable process in bounded $C^{1,1}$ open sets. The new results give ex-plicit information on how the comparing constants depend on pa-rametrer $alpha$ and consequently recover the green function and Poisson kernel estimates for Brownian motion by passing $alpha{\uparrow}2$. In addition to these new estimates this paper surveys recent progress in the study of notions of harmonicity integral representation of harmonic func-tions boundary harnack inequality conditional gauge and intrinsic ultracontractivity for symmetric stable processes.   • Starting as a glutamate producer, Corynebacterium glutamicum has played a variety of roles in the industrial production of amino acids, one of the most important areas of white biotechnology. From shortly after its genome information became available, C. glutamicum has been applied in various production processes for value-added chemicals, fuels, and polymers, as a key organism in industrial biotechnology alongside the surprising progress in systems biology and metabolic engineering. In addition, recent studies have suggested another potential for C. glutamicum as a synthetic biology platform chassis that could move the new era of industrial microbial biotechnology beyond the classical field. Here, we review the recent progress and perspectives in relation to C. glutamicum, which demonstrate it as one of the most promising and valuable workhorses in the field of industrial biotechnology.

  • Colloidal quantum dot (CQD) solar cells have attracted great attention due to their cost-effectiveness and solution-processability, as well as their size-dependent optical and electrical properties. The power conversion efficiency of CQD solar cells has rapidly increased up to ~8.6%, which corresponds to the 3 - 4 fold improvement during the last 3 - 4 years. Up to now, there have been many pioneering results in CQD solar cells. Here, we review the recent progress of CQD solar cells including CQD synthesis strategy and device structure engineering.

New challenges to stellar evolution theory from supernovae

  • Despite the great success that stellar evolution theory have enjoyed during the last 50 years, new challenges are emerging with recent observations of supernovae: many aspects of supernovae cannot be easily explained by the standard scenarios on supernova progenitors. A few examples include the red supergiant problem - the dearth of Type IIP supernova progenitors with masses higher than about 16 Msun, the non-detection of Type Ib/c supernova progenitors despite very deep searches in pre-supernova optical images, the unexpected blue colors of some Type IIn supernova progenitors, and the exotic stellar explosions of both ultra-faint and super-luminous types that have been only recently discovered. By confronting these observations with new stellar evolution models, we are making significnt progress in better understanding the role of metallicity, rotation and binary interactions for the pre-supernova evolution of massive stars. In this talk, I will give a brief review on the recent observational constraints on supernova progenitors and a progress report on several research projects that deal with pair-instability supernovae from the local Universe, type Ib/c supernovae from massive binary systems, and some peculiar stellar explosions like SN2012Z.

Recent Progress in MRI Contrast Agent with Ceramic LDH Nanohybrids (세라믹 LDH 나노하이브리드를 이용한 MRI 조영제의 최신 연구동향)

  • Ceramic layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanohybrids have attracted considerable interest in biomedical science due to their unique structural feature and characteristics in biological condition. Many studies on LDH nanoparticles have been reported in diagnosis applications including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents in order to not only provide better imaging performance through multimodal imaging strategy, but realize therapeutic function which treat cancers in one platform. This review highlights the recent progress in MRI T1 contrast agent, dual modal imaging system, and MRI-guided drug delivery systems ranging from synthetic method and characterization to evaluation in vitro and in vivo based on the ceramic LDH nanohybrids. Future research directions are also suggested for next-generation bio-imaging contrast agent.
