  • The Korean online gaming industry has seen rapid growth since the boom of information technology (IT) related industries, especially Internet and PC-bang or local area network (LAN) use, throughout the country. Online games are real-time games in which two or more players meet, compete, and cooperate in the same game space using the same communication network. Even though the growth rates of IT-related industries have recently slowed, the growth of the online gaming industry has increased, and Korean firms are expanding their businesses to countries all over the world. However, the online gaming industry is becoming an oligopoly, in which 4-5 leading companies occupy most online gaming markets. This situation presents a disadvantage to the Korean online gaming industry, since online players usually seek a diversity of online gaming contents and high quality online game services. Therefore, small- and medium-sized game developers must survive in this market by upgrading the quality of their online gaming services in an effort to provide differentiated goods and services in monopolistic competition markets. However, most venture companies in the online game industry, whether new or previously existing, are not able to obtain adequate financing. The objective of this paper is to examine the management environment for medium- and small-sized game developers in the Korean online gaming industry. By introducing the case of Grigon Entertainment, we try to identify the source of difficulty obtaining external financing for Korean venture firms in the online gaming industry.

  • Despite the increasing popularity of wireless sensor network, indoor positioning using low power IEEE 802.15.4 compliant radio had attracted an interest of many researchers in the last decade. Old fashionable indoor location sensing information has been presented in dull and unpleasant 2D image standard. This paper focused on visualizing high precision 3 dimensional RSSI-based (received signal strength indication) spatial sensing information in an interactive virtual reality on PDA. The developed system operates by capturing and extracting signal strength information at multiple pre-defined reference nodes to provide information in the area of interest, thus updating user's location in 3D indoor virtual map. VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) which specifically developed for 3D objects modeling is utilized to design 3D indoor environment.

  • Through USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) is collected the patient's vital information in real-time, also information collected will be stored in the DB (Date Base), frequent use hospital saved patient's vital information for DB. Stored in the patient's vital medical information stored in the patients with frequent hospital patient to hospital if the patient's vital information is stored in DB. But, stored location is within hospital server or stored in a PC environment, because If utilize other Hospital existing hospitals will need to request. However, Existing hospital have problem for security, authentication, management, cost, manpower, such as, because other hospitals and the exchange of information does not come easily. So, If has the advantage of the patient and the patient's vital information is stored on mobile devices that you can use as DB. It is important to find information quickly and accurately, in this study, Is A study on mobile circulation loop DB systems for patient-centered serbices.

  • Nowadays NGN is developed for supporting the e-Commerce, Internet trading, e-Government, e-mail, virtual-life and multimedia. Internet gives us the benefit of remote access to the information but causes the attacks that can break server and modify information. Since 2000 Nimda, Code Red Virus and DSoS attacks are spreaded in Internet. This attack programs make tremendous traffic packets on the Internet. In this paper, we designed and developed the Bandwidth Controller in the gateway systems against the bandwidth saturation attacks. This Bandwidth con-troller is implemented in hardware chipset(FPGA) Virtex II Pro which is produced by Xilinx and acts as a policing function. We reference the TBF(Token Bucket Filter) in Linux Kernel 2.4 and implemented this function in HDL(Hardware Description Language) Verilog. This HDL code is synthesized in hardware chipset and performs the gigabit traffic in real time. This policing function can throttle the traffic at the rate of band width controlling policy in bps speed.

  • Due to advances such as photovoltaic power generation and energy storage system, energy self-consumption smart home system in which energy management system is built and energy is generated in house has been actively researched. In particular, due to the instability of the grid after the Fukushima nuclear accident, home system in which generating electricity from photovoltaic, storing and using it in energy storage system was commercialized in Japan. While subsidizing renewable energy projects through a combination of solar and energy storage systems in North America and Europe has expanded home installation. In this paper, we describe development of self-consumption smart home system which is connecting photovoltaic system and energy storage system in home area network and operating it based on real-time price. We implemented automated self-consumption home in which optimizing the use of energy from the power grid with minimal user's intervention.

  • This research dealt with the methodological procedures of ubiquitous sensor networks, applying to urban ground facilities. Recently Korean government established a guide, "u-City IT Infra guide v1.0" when promoting u-City implement projects. This guide conceptually included general processes about u-City mainframe in overall, but its guidance could not lead the detailed procedures and methods for specific ground facility. Therefore, this research proposed the details of the procedure for the intelligence of facilities after reviewing the existing procedures for ubiquitous city. Newly proposed procedure for the intelligence of facilities was consisted of selection of facility and sensors for intelligence, setting a level for intelligence, and suggestion of service model for the selected facility.

  • Korea plans to be the world's first country to transform its electricity network into "smart grids," which use information and operational technologies to help to facilitate the reduction of carbon emissions, make more efficient use of existing infrastructure/resources through meeting customer demand/less generation, and support renewable resources with real time monitoring and controls. In this situation, universities do the needful on priority to nurture smart grid engineers who will be responsible for state-of-the-art technologies as today's electric grid transitions to a digital network. This paper thus attempts to permanently turn out high-quality human resources in electrical engineering by fleshing out strategies for training smart electric grid engineers, based on lessons from a national undertaking of nurturing qualified power IT engineers starting on February 1 of 2007.

  • The routing protocols designed for wired networks can hardly be used for mobile ad-hoc networks due to limited bandwidth of wireless transmission and unpredictable topological change. Recently, several routing protocols for mobile ad-hoc networks have been Proposed. However, when theme protocols are applied to support real time services like multimedia transmission, they still have problems in ad-hoc networks, where the topology changes drastically. In this paper, we propose a new route selection algorithm which selects the most reliable route that is impervious to route failures by topological changes by mobile hoots. For reliable route selection, the concept of virtual zone (stable zone and caution zone) is proposed. The zone is located in a mobile node'transmission range and determined by mobile node's mobility information received by Global Positioning System (GPS). The proposed algorithm is applied to the route discovery procedure of the existing on-demand routing protocol, AODV, and evaluated by simulation in various traffic conditions and mobility patterns.

  • Vision-based scene understanding is to infer and interpret the context of a scene based on the evidences by analyzing the images. A probabilistic approach using Bayesian networks is actively researched, which is favorable for modeling and inferencing cause-and-effects. However, it is difficult to gather meaningful evidences sufficiently and design the model by human because the real situations are dynamic and uncertain. In this paper, we propose a learning method of Bayesian network that reduces the computational complexity and enhances the accuracy by searching an efficient BN structure in spite of insufficient evidences and training data. This method represents the domain knowledge as ontology and builds an efficient hierarchical BN structure under constraint rules that come from the ontology. To evaluate the proposed method, we have collected 90 images in nine types of circumstances. The result of experiments indicates that the proposed method shows good performance in the uncertain environment in spite of few evidences and it takes less time to learn.
