  • In this paper, a test bed for real-time network Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) research was constructed using reference stations of the NGII. A group of candidate station networks was derived, including three stations in Seoul. The group consisted of four stations with a distance of less than 100 km between them. Among several candidates, a network composed of stations with short distances between them and demonstrating good data quality for all reference stations was selected as the test bed. After collecting real-time data in Radio Technical Committee for Maritime services (RTCM) format from the selected stations and conducting a noise analysis on measurements, mm-level carrier phase measurement noise was confirmed. Afterwards, the user set the reference station inside the test bed and analyzed the network RTK positioning performance of the MAC method using the GPS L1 frequency as post-processing. From the result of the analysis it was confirmed that the residual error for all users was within 10 cm after applying the correction. Additionally, after determining integer ambiguities through Least-squares AMBiguity Decorrelation Adjustment (LAMBDA), it was confirmed that the fix rate was 100%, and all ambiguities were resolved as true values.

  • The efficiency of the real-time route guidance system(RGS) depends largely on the quality of route search algorithms. In this paper, we implement the coarse grid method(CGM) in mathematical programming for finding a good quality route of real-time RGS in large-scale networks. The proposed CGM examines coarser and wider networks as the search phase proceeds, in stead of searching the whole network at once. Naturally, we can significantly reduce computational efforts in terms of search time and memory requirement. We demonstrate the practical effectiveness of the proposed CGM with nationwide real road network simulation.

  • Network-based real-time multimedia applications require guaranteed performances of communication service. Also according to increased bandwidth and processing performance in the future high speed networks, it is possible to make multimedia real-time applications such as distributed real-time applications including video conference, medical imaging, and video education. These applications have characteristics of stringent performance requirements in terms of delay, delay jitter and maximum loss rate. This paper proposes a new delay control for Broadband networks with FCFS queueing. The delay control provides an alternative solution to a current problem in real-time communication; traffic distortion, which makes it difficult to meet such real-time requirements. In simulations, it shows that the proposed delay control can guarantee local and end-to-end delay.

  • For transporting real-time multimedia traffic, RTP is considered as one of the most promising protocols operating at application layer. In order to manage and control the real-time multimedia traffic within networks, network managers need to monitor and analyze the traffic delivering through their networks. However, conventional traffic analyzing tools can not exactly classify and analyze the real-time multimedia traffic using RTP on the basis of real-time as well as non-real-time operations. In this paper, we propose an efficient online classification method of RTP packets, which can be used on high-speed network links. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed methodhave been tested using captured data from a KIX node with 100 Mbps links, which interconnects between domestic and overseas Internet networks and is operated by NCA.

  • It is crucial to predict water temperature for aquatic ecosystem studies and management. In this paper, we first address challenging issues in predicting water temperature in a real time manner and propose a distributed computing model to address such issues. Then, we present an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based water temperature prediction model developed for the Soyang River and a cyberinfrastructure system called WT-Agabus to run such prediction models in an automated and real time manner. The ANN model is designed to use only weather forecast data (air temperature and rainfall) that can be obtained by invoking the weather forecasting system at Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and therefore can facilitate the automated and real time water temperature prediction. This paper also demonstrates how easily and efficiently the real time prediction can be implemented with the WT-Agabus prototype system.

  • Sensor faults in nuclear power plant instrumentation have the potential to spread negative effects from wrong signals that can cause an accident misdiagnosis by plant operators. To detect sensor faults and make accurate accident diagnoses, prior studies have developed a supervised learning-based sensor fault detection model and an accident diagnosis model with faulty sensor isolation. Even though the developed neural network models demonstrated satisfactory performance, their diagnosis performance should be reevaluated considering real-time connection. When operating in real-time, the diagnosis model is expected to indiscriminately accept fault data before receiving delayed fault information transferred from the previous fault detection model. The uncertainty of neural networks can also have a significant impact following the sensor fault features. In the present work, a pilot study was conducted to connect two models and observe actual outcomes from a real-time application with an integrated system. While the initial results showed an overall successful diagnosis, some issues were observed. To recover the diagnosis performance degradations, additive logics were applied to minimize the diagnosis failures that were not observed in the previous validations of the separate models. The results of a case study were then analyzed in terms of the real-time diagnosis outputs that plant operators would actually face in an emergency situation.

  • This article discusses a capacity planning method in QoS-guaranteed IP networks such as BcN (Broadband convergence Network). Since IP based networks have been developed to transport best-effort data traffic, the introduction of multi-service component in BcN requires fundamental modifications in capacity planning and network dimensioning. In this article, we present the key issues of the capacity planning in multi-service IP networks. To provide a foundation for network dimensioning procedure, we describe a systematic approach for classification and modeling of BcN traffic based on the QoS requirements of BcN services. We propose a capacity planning framework considering data traffic and real-time streaming traffic separately. The multi-service Erlang model, an extension of the conventional Erlang B loss model, is introduced to determine required link capacity for the call based real-time streaming traffic. The application of multi-service Erlang model can provide significant improvement in network planning due to sharing of network bandwidth among the different services.

  • In a distributed real-time control system, it is essential to confirm the timing behavior of all tasks because these tasks of each real-time controller have to finish their processes within the specified time intervals called a deadline. In order to satisfy this objective, the timing analysis of a distributed real-time system such as shcedulability test must be performed during the system design phase. In this study, a simple application of CAN fur a vehicle body network system is formulated to apply to a holistic scheduling analysis, and the worst-case execution time (WCET) and the worst-case end-to-end response time (WCRT) are evaluated in the point of holistic system view.

  • If a failure or an abnormal maneuver occurs during the flight test of a missile, the missile is deliberately self-destructed so as not to continue the flight. At this time, debris are produced and it is important to estimate the impact area in real-time whether it is out of the safety area. In this paper, we propose a method to estimate the debris dispersion area and falling time in real-time using a Fully-Connected Neural Network (FCNN). We applied the Unscented Transform (UT) to generate a large amount of training data. UT parameters were selected by comparing with Monte-Carlo (MC) simulation to secure reliability. Also, we analyzed the performance of the proposed method by comparing the estimation result of MC.

  • There are two types of packet loss probabilities used in both the network layer and the physical layer within the wireless transmitter such as a queueing discard probability and transmission loss probability. We analyze these loss performances in order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) which is the basic of the future network. The queuing loss probability is caused by a maximum allowable delay time and the transmission loss probability is caused by a wireless channel error. These two types of packet loss probabilities are not easily analyzed due to recursive feedback which, originates as a result at a queueing delay and a number of retransmission attempts. We consider a wireless transmitter to a M/D/1 queueing model. We configurate the model to have a finite-size FIFO buffer in order to analyze the real-time traffic streams. Then we present the approaches used for evaluating the loss probabilities of this M/D/1/K queueing model. To analyze the two types of probabilities which have mutual feedbacks with each other, we drive the solutions recursively. The validity and accuracy of the analysis are confirmed by the computer simulation. From the following solutions, we suggest a minimum of 'a Maximum Allowable Delay Time' for real-time traffic in order to initially guarantee the QoS. Finally, we analyze the required service rate for each type utilizing real-time traffic and we apply our valuable analysis to a N-user's wireless network in order to get the fundamental information (types of supportable real-type traffics, types of supportable QoS, supportable maximum number of users) for network design.
