Analysis of problems of current science textbooks perceived by teachers and students in view of learner-centered classroom (학습자 중심 수업 운영의 관점에서 초중등 교사와 학생이 본 현행 과학 교과서의 문제점 분석)

  • It is important for student to participate in classroom actively in order to raise effeciveness of education. In this study, we have considered the science textbooks as major factor which influence to participation in the science class, and aimed to find the problems of current sicence textbooks as tool to promote students' participation, and the improvement method. The questionnaire which include the questions to ask requirements for and problems of science textbooks for learner-centered instruction was developed, and then 99 science teachers and 821 students answered the questionnaire. As a result, students responded that current science textbooks lacked explanation, had many of difficult words and complex sentences, and were uninteresting. Teachers responded that current science textbooks had large in quantity, were written knowledge centered, and lacked of link with real life, and of story. To conclude, science textbooks revitalizing the students' participation had to strengthen the link with real life, increase students' activities, use words and sentences appropriate level for students, strengthen storyline, and provide sufficient chances to check the students' understanding by themselves.

An Analysis of Teachers' Pedagogical Content Knowledge about Teaching Ratio and Rate (비와 비율 지도에 대한 교사의 PCK 분석)

  • This study analyzed teachers' Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) regarding the pedagogical aspect of the instruction of ratio and rate in order to look into teachers' problems during the process of teaching ratio and rate. This study aims to clarify problems in teachers' PCK and promote the consideration of the materialization of an effective and practical class in teaching ratio and rate by identifying the improvements based on problems indicated in PCK. We subdivided teachers' PCK into four areas: mathematical content knowledge, teaching method and evaluation knowledge, understanding knowledge about students' learning, and class situation knowledge. The conclusion of this study based on analysis of the results is as follows. First, in the 'mathematical content knowledge' aspect of PCK, teachers need to understand the concept of ratio from the perspective of multiplicative comparison of two quantities, and the concept of rate based on understanding of two quantities that are related proportionally. Also, teachers need to introduce ratio and rate by providing students with real-life context, differentiate ratios from fractions, and teach the usefulness of percentage in real life. Second, in the 'teaching method and evaluation knowledge' aspect of PCK, teachers need to establish teaching goals about the students' comprehension of the concept of ratio and rate and need to operate performance evaluation of the students' understanding of ratio and rate. Also, teachers need to improve their teaching methods such as discovery learning, research study and activity oriented methods. Third, in the 'understanding knowledge about students' learning' aspect of PCK, teachers need to diversify their teaching methods for correcting errors by suggesting activities to explore students' own errors rather than using explanation oriented correction. Also, teachers need to reflect students' affective aspects in mathematics class. Fourth, in the 'class situation knowledge' aspect of PCK, teachers need to supplement textbook activities with independent consciousness and need to diversify the form of class groups according to the character of the activities.

A critical study on the themes of modern Sijo (현대시조 주제에 대한 비평적 고찰)

  • The poetic theme is a unified principle of which a poet writes poems out in his work. Theme is a poet's central thought expressed in his works. And it was described on the basis of writer's view of the world and life. In this study, I divided the themes of modern Sijo into three kinds according to the materials for a poem. Especially I am interested not so much in the poems taking outer problems of human life for the subject of a poem as in poems dealing with fundamental problems of human life such as self-consciousness, death, God's presence. Firstly, in modern Sijo which deals with poet's self-reflection and self-consciousness as a poet, poets examine himself. And he intends to write poems more severely. The more poet reflects self-consciousness, the more earnestly he tries hard to write good poems. As a poet. he feels complication between real-self and ideal self, so he tries to conquer the shame made in the gab of them. And he takes writing poems into his divinely appointed work in life. A kind of meta-Sijo is written in this circumstances. Secondly, there are modern Sijo, which shows deep concerns in death problems of human life. Thanatopsis expressed in modern Sijo is connected with poet's personal experiences. In most cases, poet describes fragmentary thoughts, sorrows and agony after death of his intimate persons. In Sijo, however, poets don't dig Into the death problem deep enough because of the characteristics of genre. But it is very significant work to take various materials of death into poetic themes in Sijo in that it makes us to reflect of human attitude of life. Thirdly, the poetic themes of dealing with fundamental problems of human and God are expressed in Sijo based on Christian view of the world. In such a poems, poet complains to God who looks in illogical human situations as a spectator of vulgar realities of life. But ultimately. poet expresses deep affirmation and obedience of God in his poems. So he manifests Christianity by the poetic paradox. Such poems change over the theme of modern Sijo the superficial Problems of reality to the deep situation of life.

Development and Analyses of an PBL-based Digital Logic Education Program using Electrical Circuit Experiments (전기회로실험을 이용한 PBL기반 디지털 논리회로 교육방법 개발 및 적용 분석)

  • In this paper, we proposed an Electric Circuit manipulation method to identify easily results of Digital Logic Circuits. Using this method for computer science educations, we can feasibly instruct and understand principles of a Digital Logic Circuit which is a basis of real Digital systems. Furthermore, we developed an PBL-based education program for Digital Logic Circuit concept and Boolean Algebra concept by applying the proposed Electric Circuit manipulation method and by explaining real life Digital Instrument examples. The experimental results are analyzed in views of the problem-solving ability and suitability of allocating degrees of difficulties to the developed Digital Logic Circuit problems.

Research Analysis on STEAM Education with Digital Technology in Korea to Prepare for Post-Corona Era Education

  • Problem solving in real life is a core competency commonly adopted in several subjects recently. The real-world problems were rarely resolved with only one domain of knowledge. Thus, convergence education is becoming a trend in many countries. As on-line education is revitalized because of COVID-19, the need for changes to STEAM education is emerging. In December 2019, the on-line education systems quickly settled in schools because of COVID-19. During the first semester of 2020, most school education was conducted as virtual/distance learning classes. It is necessary to analyze how much technology has been used in the STEAM classes in Korea. This paper analyzes the research papers related to the STEAM education in Korea conducted in the last 10 years. By doing this, we analyze what kind of edutechs we were interested in, what kind of STEAM education actually occurred, and to whom it was conducted. The previous research papers analyzed in this paper are the papers in the Korea Citation Index accredited journals and candidate journals. Finally, this paper proposes educational changing factors to be considered for future technology-based STEAM education.

A comparison analysis of the Statistical sections between in the Korean Elementary Mathematics textbooks and the MiC textbooks (우리나라 초등 교과서와 MiC 교과서의 통계 단원 비교.분석)

  • The korean mathematics textbooks according to the 2007 revised mathematics curriculum and the MiC textbooks are similar in that they introduce mathematical materials in real life situations and are composed in such a way that require students to form their own mathematical concepts. However the MiC textbooks are focus more on situation-centered problems and context-centered problems where a set of procedures need to be followed in order to arrive at an answer. So, this paper is aim at comparing the units of statistics in the korean mathematics textbooks and the MiC textbooks in order to find the implications for writing textbook. By comparing the specific content and the used methods, I found Korean textbooks focused on understanding concepts and spending less time surveying and collecting data. On the other hand, MiC textbooks used activities that real mathematicians would be involved with, such as surveying and analyzing data to compose mathematical concepts.

  • Considerable amount of resources on roads, basic infrastructure, to promote economic development and distribution of goods is invested. Despite the necessity, its undesirable side effects are various environmental problems In order to efficiently evaluate these problems more than before, planning indictors for environment-friendly road constructions is proposed in this study. First, we make an investigation into real-life cases where the extracted planning indicators were applied. Second, it is suggested that an alternative assessment method efficaciously evaluate and/or adopt extracted planning indictors on road construction projects. Finally, criteria to determine environmental impacts with respect to planning indicators and apply them into real cases is proposed. This study has its significance in upgrading past pro-environmental indictors for road construction, suggesting reasonable applications of planning indicators, and setting criteria to determine environmental impacts based on planning indicators.

Improved Control Algorithm Development for Control Element Drive Mechanism Control System (제어봉구동장치제어계통의 개선된 제어 알고리즘 개발)

  • The old Timing Controller for Control Element Drive Mechanism (CEDM) is designed as an open loop control system because it is difficult to mount sensors within the Control Element Drive Mechanism(CEDM) which is operating under the pressure boundary of the reactor vessel. In this work new method which can be used to detect the CEDM operational conditions without mounting sensors within the CEDM housing is developed in order to resolve problems of the old Timing Controller. By using the developed new method, the new Timing Controller for the CEDM is designed as a closed loop controller which has features of the control rod drop prevention, fine position control and the coil life time extension. The algorithm developed under closed loop control concept resolves most problems occurred in the old Timing Controller and improves the performance and reliability of the system. During designing and testing of the Timing Controller algorithm, the real time CEDM simulator developed here was used. And all functions of the developed algorithm were verified using CEDM simulator with the real data collected from the site. The results show that the Timing Controller performs its intended functions properly.

  • Large-scale industrial facility structures continue to deteriorate due to the effects of operating and environmental conditions. The problems of these industrial facilities are potentially causing economic losses, environmental pollution, casualties, and national losses. Accordingly, in order to prevent disaster accidents of large structures in advance, the necessity of diagnosing structures using non-destructive inspection techniques is being highlighted. The defect occurrence, location and defect type of the structure are important parameters for predicting the remaining life of the structure, so continuous defect observation is very important. Recently, many researchers have been actively researching real-time monitoring technology to solve these problems. Structure Health Monitoring Inspection is a technology that can identify and respond to the occurrence of defects in real time, but there is a limit to check the degree of defects and the direction of growth of defects. In order to compensate for the shortcomings of these technologies, the importance of defect imaging techniques is emerging, and in order to find defects in large structures, a method of inspecting a wide range using guided ultrasonic is effective. The work presented here introduces a calculation for the shape factor for evaluation of the damaged area, as well as a variable β parameter technique to correct a damaged shape. Also, we perform research in modeling simulation and an experiment for comparison with a suggested inspection method and verify its validity. The curved structure image obtained by the advanced RAPID algorithm showed a good match between the defect area and the shape.

Development of AI Education Program for Prediction System Based on Linear Regression for Elementary School Students (선형회귀모델 기반의 초등학생용 인공지능 예측 시스템 교육 프로그램의 개발)

  • Quite a few elementary school teachers began to utilize AI technology in order to provide students with customized, intelligent information services in recent years. However, learning principles of AI may be as important as utilizing AI in everyday life because understanding principles of AI can empower them to buildup adaptability to changes in highly technological world. In the paper, 'Linear Regression Algorithm' is selected for teaching AI-based prediction system to solve real world problems suitable for elementary students. A simulation program written in Scratch was developed so that students can find a solution of linear regression model using the program. The paper shows that students have learned analyzing data as well as comparing the accuracy of the prediction model. Also, they have shown the ability to solve real world problems by finding suitable prediction models.
