  • With the development of a laser scanner of high precision and increased speed, reverse engineering becomes a key approach to reduce the time for the development of new products. But the modeling process is not so automated enough until now. Modeling in real workshops is usually performed by the experienced operators and it requires a skillful technique to get the resultant surface of high quality and precision. In this paper, a systematic solution is proposed to automate the free-form surface generation from the measured point data. Compatibility is imposed to the measured point data during input curve generation. And the compatibility of cross-sectional curve is also considered for the loft surface generation. The data in each step is produced in IGES file format to make an easy interface to other CAD/CAM software without any further data manipulation.

  • In this article, we study surfaces of revolution without parabolic points in a Euclidean 3-space whose Gauss map G satisfies the condition ${\Delta}^hG\;=\;AG,A\;{\in}\;Mat(3,{\mathbb{R}}),\;where\;{\Delta}^h$ denotes the Laplace operator of the second fundamental form h of the surface and Mat(3,$\mathbb{R}$) the set of 3${\times}$3-real matrices, and also obtain the complete classification theorem for those. In particular, we have a characterization of an ordinary sphere in terms of it.

  • This Paper describes the impleentation of two's complement bit-serial FIR filter with systolic architectur. The filter coefficients are represented as sign and magnitude form and the input data is represented as two's complement form. We use systolic array to obtain high operation speed so this FIR filter sucessfully operates in real-time environment.

  • This paper examines the conventional notion of natural beauty and its legacy on the aesthetic experience of nature and landscape architecture in terms of critical perspective. We can take its clue for discussion from the our routine convention of experiencing natural beauty from the picture-like nature. We often equate natural beauty with superficial representations of nature shown in pictures. However, it is no more than a by-stander's nature seen purely through the eyes of the outsider. Problems of the picture-like nature can be summarized as the contemplative and visual-oriented aesthetic experience of landscape, which has had its influence not only on the ways of seeing the natural beauty but also on the ways of making it. The tradition of the picture-like nature has been transplanted into the real world through the practice of landscape architecture. It has been mass-producing superficial beauty of nature, focused on visual form. Landscape architecture in such a form is just a static means of decoration devoid of meaning and content.

  • This paper describes a visual object detection approach utilizing ensemble based machine learning. Object detection methods employing 1D features have the benefit of fast calculation speed. However, for real image with complex background, detection accuracy and performance are degraded. In this paper, we propose an ensemble learning algorithm that combines a 1D feature classifier and 2D DNF (Disjunctive Normal Form) classifier to improve the object detection performance in a single input image. Also, to improve the computing efficiency and accuracy, we propose a feature selecting method to reduce the computing time and ensemble algorithm by combining the 1D features and 2D DNF features. In the verification experiments, we selected the Haar-like feature as the 1D image descriptor, and demonstrated the performance of the algorithm on a few datasets such as face and vehicle.

  • The inverse Weibull distribution (IWD) can be readily applied to a wide range of situations including applications in medicines, reliability and ecology. It is generally known that the lifetimes of test items may not be recorded exactly. In this paper, therefore, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and Bayes estimation of the entropy of a IWD under generalized progressive hybrid censoring (GPHC) scheme. It is observed that the MLE of the entropy cannot be obtained in closed form, so we have to solve two non-linear equations simultaneously. Further, the Bayes estimators for the entropy of IWD based on squared error loss function (SELF), precautionary loss function (PLF), and linex loss function (LLF) are derived. Since the Bayes estimators cannot be obtained in closed form, we derive the Bayes estimates by revoking the Tierney and Kadane approximate method. We carried out Monte Carlo simulations to compare the classical and Bayes estimators. In addition, two real data sets based on GPHC scheme have been also analysed for illustrative purposes.

  • This paper suggests a new fuzzy PID controller with variable parameters which improves the shortage of the fuzzy PID controller with fixed parameters suggested in [9]. The derivation procedure follows the general design procedure of the fuzzy logic controller, while the resultant control law is the form of the conventional PID controller. Therefore, the suggested controller has two advantages. One is that it has only four fuzzy linguistic rules and analytical form of control laws so that the real-time control system can be implemented based on low-price microprocessors. The other is that the PID control action can always be achieved with time-varying PID controller gains only by adjusting the input and output scalers at each sampling time.

  • In this paper we have a concern on the Moore-Penrose inverse of two kinds of partitioned matrices of the form [V X] and [{{{{ {V atop {X} {{{{ {X atop { 0} }}] where V is symmetric. The Moore-Penrose inverse of the partitioned matrices can be reduced to be simpler forms according to some algebraic conditions. Firstly we investigate the representations of the Moore-Penrose inverses of the partitioned matrices under four al-gebraic conditions. Each condition reduces the Moore-Penrose inverses of the partitioned matrices under four al-gebraic conditions. Each condition reduces the Morre-Penrose inverse into some simpler form. Also equivalant conditions will be considered. Finally we will perform a simulation study to investigate which con-dition is the most important in the sense that which condition occurs the most frequently in the real situation. The simluation study will show us a particular condition occurs the most likely tha other conditions. This fact enables us to obtain the Morre-Penrose inverse with less computational efforts and computational storage.

  • In this study we are concerned with the problem of ap-proximating a locally unique solution of an equation on a Banach space. A semilocal convergence theorem is given for the Super-Halley method in Banach spaces. Earlier results have shown that the order of convergence is four for a certain class of operators [4] [5] [8] These results were not given in affine invariant form and made use of a real quadratic majorizing polynomial. Here we provide our re-sults in affine invariant form showing that the order of convergence is at least four. In cases that it is exactly four the rate of convergence is improved. We achieve these results by using a cubic majorizing polynomial. Some numerical examples are given to show that our error bounds are better than earlier ones.

  • Investigated is the relationship between tool deflection and geometrical accuracy in side wall machining. Form error is predicted directly from the tool deflection without surface generation. Developed model can predict the surface form error about three hundred times faster than the previous method. Cutting forces and tool deflection are calculated considering tool geometry, tool setting error, and machine tool stiffness. The characteristics and the difference of generated surface shape in up milling and down milling are discussed. The usefulness of the presented method is verified from a set of experiments under various cutting conditions generally used in die and mold manufacture. This study contributes to real time surface shape estimation and cutting process planning for the improvement of geometrical accuracy.
