읽기 형태, 줄 길이, 줄 간격이 한글 웹 문서의 가독성에 미치는 영향 (The Influences of Reading Type, Line Length, and Interlinear Spacing on the Legibility of Korean Web Documents)

  • Many people get plenty of information from World Wide Web, and the study of the factors that affect on reading task on web browser is presenting important issue. But domestic studies on legibility of Korean on web environment were relatively poor and the study about suitable text layout for skimming wasn't carried out also. At this point, this study was performed to investigate the effects of two types of reading, three levels of line length, and three levels of interlinear spacing on comprehension and reading rate when subjects read the materials on web browser. Reading speed, error rate, subjective preference and SACL(Stress and Arousal Checklist) evaluation were measured to evaluate the effects. Eighteen volunteer subjects participated in eighteen web document sessions with two different reading types, three different line lengths, and three different interlinear spacings. Statistical results from objective and subjective evaluations indicate that 50 characters per line of line length and 100 percents of interlinear spacing improved reading rate, overall error rates were reduced when reading normally, and SACL measures were increased at fast reading type. Consequently, in order to design text layout to retrieve information in WWW environment effectively, just applying guidelines of traditional printed material is not proper. Therefore, it is effective to consider reading type, line length, and interlinear spacing. Implications of these results and suggestions for the further study are also addressed.

한국 대학생의 영어독해 전략이 독해에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Korean College Students' Use of English Reading Learning Strategies on Reading Comprehension)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 영어 독해 전략이 영어 독해에 미치는 영향에 대해서 연구하였다. 이 연구를 위해 다음과 같이 3개의 연구문제를 제시하였다 첫째, 한국대학생이 사용하는 독해 전략을 연구하였고, 둘째, 성별에 따른 영어 독해전략 사용에 대해 연구하였다. 셋째, 영어 숙달도에 따른 영어 독해전략 사용의 차이점을 연구 하였다. 이 연구를 통해 다음과 같은 사실을 발견하였다. 첫째, 한국대학생들은 6가지의 범주중 에서 기억전략을 가장 많이 사용한 반면 초인지전략을 가장 적게 사용하였다. 둘째, 성별에 따라 독해 전략 사용의 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었으며 셋째, 영어 숙달도에 따른 독해 전략 사용의 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이 연구는 독해전략 사용이 영어 독해 능력을 강화 시킬 수 있음을 보여주고 있으며, 영어 선생님들은 영어 독해 수업시간에 학습자들에게 맞는 적절한 독해 전략 사용을 고려하여 수업을 진행 하여야 할 것이다.

논제 구축형 독서토론수업 모형 개발과 효과성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of an Instructional Model for Expanding Reading Debate Topics and Effects on the Model)

  • 본 연구는 설계기반연구를 활용하여 논제 구축형 독서토론수업 모형을 개발하고 그 효과성을 연구하기 위하여 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 경기도에 위치한 초등학교 4학년 학생을 대상으로 논제 구축형 독서토론수업 모형을 적용하여 수업을 진행하고, 사전검사와 사후검사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 논제 구축형 독서토론수업 모형은 학생들의 독서태도와 자기주도적 학습태도의 향상에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.

경기도 책꾸러미 사업을 통한 양육자의 독서육아 효과 분석을 위한 지표개발 및 효과성 연구 (A Study on Development and Effectiveness of the Indicatives for Analysis of the Effects of a Book Sharing Project on pre-schoolers of Supporter' Reading Care in Gyeonggi-do)

  • 본 연구는 2021년도 경기도 책꾸러미 정기배송 사업에서 양육자의 독서 육아의 효과를 분석함에 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 지표를 개발하고 효과성을 분석한 뒤 향후 경기도 독서문화 진흥 정책 수립 시 활용하고자 하였다. 이 사업은 소외 지역에 거주하는 유아 대상의 독서 복지를 위해, 기관과 가정이 연계하여, 가정에 책꾸러미를 정기 배송하고, 유아와 양육자를 대상으로 맞춤형으로 개별적인 교육을 실시하였다. 양육자의 독서 육아 효과 분석을 위한 측정지표는 가정 문식성, 부모 효능감 이론에 대한 문헌 검토를 바탕으로 설정되었고, 이후 17개 설문 문항을 개발하여 전문가를 통해 델파이로 타당도를 검증하였다. 이후 경기도 7개 시군(포천시, 양평군, 여주시, 동두천시, 가평군, 연천군, 양주시)의 양육자 105명을 대상으로 효과성 검증을 위하여 사전/사후조사를 실시하였다. 결과적으로 사전/ 사후 효과성을 조사한 결과, 유아 책꾸러미 정기배송 사업의 양육자는 독서 상호작용과 독서 육아 효능감 면에서 향상을 가져왔다. 이러한 사업 효과를 고려할 때, 이 정책은 특정 지역을 넘어서 보편적인 조기 유아 독서 복지 정책으로 가정과 기관이 연계한 형태로 지속적인 사업으로 실시될 필요가 있다.

그림책읽기 언어중재프로그램이 저소득 가정 아동의 언어능력에 미치는 종단적 영향 (The Longitudinal Effects of an Early Storybook Reading Intervention Program on the Improvement of First Graders' Language Abilities in Low-income Families)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of early storybook reading intervention participation on the first graders' language abilities in low income families. The subjects consisted of 148 first graders and their primary caregivers. The intervention group was composed of 100 first graders who participated in the early storybook reading intervention program in childcare or kindergarten. The comparison group comprised 48 first graders from equivalent social and economic backgrounds, who did not participate in the program. The language abilities of the children were tested and questionnaires regarding the home literacy environment, children's reading activities at home and parents' perceptions of their children's reading behaviors were completed by the children's primary caregivers. The data were analyzed by means of structural equation modeling. The results indicated that early intervention participation was directly associated with children's higher language abilities in first grade and indirectly influenced the children's language abilities through the home literacy environment, children's reading activities at home and parents' perceptions of their children's reading behaviors.

한국전래동화를 통한 활동중심 독서지도가 아동의 읽기 태도 및 읽기 이해에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Activities-Centered Reading based on Korean Fairy Tales on Children's Reading Attitude and Comprehension)

  • This research analyzed the effect of activity-centered reading band on Korean fairy tales on children's reading attitude and comprehension. The reading altitude of the experimental-group children exhibited more meaningful change in such subordinate areas as academic reading attitude. The academic reading attitude of the male experimental-group had higher improvement than that of the female experimental-group. In addition, the reading comprehension scores of the experimental-group children were higher than those of the control-group children. The reading program effects on reading comprehension were more meaningful in girls in the experimental group than boys in the group. Therefore, the results of this study have demonstrated the necessity of the development and application of a Korean fairy tales program for reading and an activity-centered reading program.

The Positive Effects of Corporate Reading Management on Employee Performance

  • Purpose - Corporate reading management requires employees capable of doing their job since employee performance is crucial to the firm's profitability. The objective of this study was to evaluate the positive effects of corporate reading management on employee management. It focuses on factors increasing employee productivity and the impacts corporate management brings about on the overall productivity of any kind of company. Research design, Data, and methodology - The current authors have investigated and conducted the qualitative content analysis (QCA) to obtain the adequate textual dataset in the prior and current literature. One of the primary benefits of doing research using content analysis is that it enables the researcher to employ a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Result - Based on the review of the prior literature, the present authors found that there are four corporate reading management solutions to improve employee performance, following those instructions - A. Increased Motivation and Productivity, B. Employee Development, C. Businesses' Objective Alignment, and D. Improved Work Environment. Conclusion - This study addressed and figured out different factors that reading corporate can apply to influence employee performance, thus increasing the company's productivity. Future research should evaluate the adverse effects businesses might face from unfavorable working environments. The research also needed to address how ethics influences employee performance.

Use of Reading Aloud Method in a Formal College-Level English Reading Classroom

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of the use of reading aloud as a way of teaching English reading in a formal college-level English reading classroom. The study tried to examine the effects of reading aloud on the development of English reading ability in terms of comprehension and speed and the students' perceptions of the use of reading aloud in an English reading classroom. The participants of the study were 36 third year students at a college. The results of the cloze test and reading speed test showed that reading aloud had a positive effect on the improvement of English reading ability. The students received higher scores in the cloze test after the course and read a text faster than before the course. The analysis of the course evaluation questionnaire indicated that the students in the study showed positive attitudes toward the use of reading aloud in an English reading classroom. Most of the students reported that reading aloud was an effective way of improving their English reading comprehension and speed. However, the students were not fully satisfied with the reading materials used in the study. The results of the present study indicated that reading aloud may be incorporated into a formal English reading classroom effectively.

Effects of Chunking on Reading Comprehension of EFL Learners: Silent vs. Oral Reading

  • This study investigates how EFL learners' chunking ability both in oral and silent reading affects reading comprehension, and how the chunking ability in silent reading relates to that of oral reading. The participants of this study consisted of 30 Korean university students taking a required 'English Reading' course. Chunking is a technique of grouping words into meaningful syntactic units for better understanding. Chunking was measured from pauses in oral reading. Results of this study suggest that the participants who can chunk properly both orally and silently display better comprehension of texts in general. However, chunking in silent reading was found to be a stronger indicator of improved reading comprehension. Also, the chunking skills in silent reading showed a statistically strong correlation with those observed in oral reading, suggesting that the chunking ability in silent reading may develop in parallel with that of oral reading. Oral as well as silent reading should be continuously practiced to improve reading comprehension of all levels of EFL learners, including low levels of learners. There is also a need to encourage students to read aloud with appropriate prosodic cues to help them read in meaningful units of words, therefore increasing EFL learners' comprehension not only in reading but also in listening.

면대면 독서토론과 웹기반 독서토론의 효과 비교 (Comparison on Effects of Face-to-face Reading Discussion and Web-based's)

  • 본 연구는 중학교 독서토론을 위한 수업으로서 면대면 독서토론수업과 웹에 기반을 둔 독서토론수업의 수업효과를 비교하기 위한 것이다. 이 연구를 위하여 첫째, 두 가지 독서토론 방법(면대면 독서토론, 웹기반 독서토론)을 선정했으며 둘째, 1개 중학교 2개 학급의 72명을 실험대상으로 하였다. 연구의 결과는 학업수준이 높은 학습자들에 있어서 내용 이해도 토론절차의 수행정도에는 큰 차이가 없었으며 독서토론에 대한 태도 독서에 대한 선호도, 참여 도에서는 웹기반 독서토론수업모형이 더 효과적이었으며 특히, 학업수준이 낮은 학습자의 경우 독서토론 참여도, 독서토론에 대한 태도에서 웹기반 독서토론수업모형이 더 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.
