Chloride permeability of high strength concrete(HSC) was investigated using saltwater pending test and rapid chloride permeability test by electrical potential(ASTM C 1202). The lower water-cement ratio concrete showed the lower diffusion coefficient of chloride. The relationship between the diffusion coefficient of chloride and charge passed by the rapid chloride permeability test could be obtained. This relationship appears to be an effective method for evaluating chloride permeability of low water-cement HSC.

Concretes with binary blends of Portland cement, silica fume, fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag were produce to investigate their effects on compressive strength and chloride transport in rapid chloride permeability. Ten different mix of concrete with 0.45 water/binder were produced. Portland cement was replacedby: (i) 10%, 20%, 30% Fly ash (ii) 3%, 5%, 10% Silica Fume (iii) 20%, 40%, 60% GGBS. Compressive strength of concrete with the pozzolans is higher compared to that of the Portland cement concrete. The test results indicate the fly ash, silica fume, and ground granulated furnace slag greatly reduce the rapid chloride permeability of concrete. It was concluded that pozzolans are more effective to reduce chloride permeability of concrete.

In this study, a mathematical model is established for prediction of chloride penetration in unsaturated cracked early-age concrete. The model is combined with models for thermo-hygro dynamic coupling of cement hydration, moisture transport and micro-structure development. Chloride permeability and water permeability at cracked early-age concrete specimens are evaluated using a rapid chloride permeability test and a low-pressure water permeability test, respectively. Then, a homogenization technique is introduced into the model to determine equivalent diffusion coefficient and equivalent Permeation coefficient. Increased chloride transport due to cracks at the specimen could be predicted fairly well by characterizing the cracks using proposed model. Proposed model is verified by comparing diffusion analysis results with test results.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of re-vibration and curing temperature onto the physical properties of latex-modified concrete with ordinary cement and rapid-setting cement, and thus to provide a guide line of re-vibration and curing conditions for good quality controls. The main experimental variables included two cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid-setting cement), curing Temperature($10^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$), re-vibration methods(continued, intermittent), and re-vibration times(initial setting, one day after mixing). The experimental results showed that the re-vibration affected little to the mechanical properties of LMC and RSLMC, while, the curing temperature a quite some. The early strength development was the highest at $20^{\circ}C$ curing temperature, and decreased at higher temperature. The permeability of concrete generally decreased with curing time. The rapid chloride permeability was a function of time and temperature. The chloride permeability of RSLMC was so small and negligible.

PURPOSES : In this study, an image analysis method is used to evaluate the pore structure characteristics and permeability of hybrid concrete. METHODS : The binder weight of hybrid concrete is set to $400kg/m^3$, $370kg/m^3$, and $350kg/m^3$, and for each value of binder weight, the pore structure and permeability of concrete mixture is evaluated. The permeability of hybrid concrete is evaluated using a rapid chloride penetration test(RCPT). RESULTS : The concrete pore structure characteristics of hybrid concrete reveals that as the binder weight is reduced, the entrained air is reduced and the entrapped air is increased. The permeability of the hybrid concrete for all values was measured to be below 1000 C, which indicates a "Very Low" level of permeability relative to the evaluation standard of KS F 2711. Additionally, as the binder weight is decreased, there is a significant increase in the permeability of chloride ions. CONCLUSIONS : In this study, the pore structure characteristics of hybrid concrete at different binder weights shows that as the binder weight is reduced, the entrained air is reduced and the entrapped air is increased. Consequently, chloride ion penetration resistance of the hybrid concrete is diminished. As a result, it is expected that this will reduce the concrete's durability.
The main aim of this study is to investigate the possible effects of metakaolin on strength and durability properties of concrete. For this purpose, concrete mixtures are produced by substituting cement with metakaolin 0, 5, 10 and 20% by weight. The amount of binder for the concrete mixtures are 300 and $400kg/m^3$ with a constant water to cement ratio of 0.6. Compressive and bending strengths, freeze-thaw and high-temperature resistances, capillary coefficients and rapid chloride permeability properties were determined and compared each other. Because of all the experiments conducted, it has been found that the use of metakaolin as a pozzolanic additive in concrete have positive effects especially on compressive and bending strengths, capillary, rapid chloride permeability, freeze-thaw resistance, and high temperatures, up to $800^{\circ}C$. The results indicated that the performance of concrete can be enhanced by metakaolin. Particularly, compressive strength and durability properties have found to be improved with increasing metakaolin content which is attributed to pozzolanic activity and filler effect. Furthermore, metakaolin has relatively positive impacts under elevated temperatures and freeze-thaw effects. However, almost all the strengths of entire concrete specimens are lost at $800^{\circ}C$. Consequently, the optimum metakaolin substitution ratio can be suggested to be 20% as per this study.
Concrete is one of the most widely used construction materials in the world. Producing economical and durable concrete is possible by employing pozzolanic materials. The aim of this study is to underline the possibility of the utilization of natural zeolite in producing concrete and investigate its effects basically on the strength and durability of concrete. In the production of concrete mixes, Portland cement was replaced by the natural zeolite at ratios of 0%, 10%, 15%, and 20% by weight. Concretes were produced with total binder contents of $300kg/m^3$ and $400kg/m^3$, but with a constant water to cement ratio of 0.60. In addition to compressive and flexural strength measurements, freeze-thaw and high temperature resistance measurements, rapid chloride permeability, and capillary water absorption tests were performed on the concrete mixes. Compared to the rest mixes, concrete mixes containing 10% zeolite yielded in with the highest compressive and flexural strengths. The rapid chloride permeability and the capillary measurements were decreased as the natural zeolite replacement was increased. Freeze-thaw resistance also improved significantly as the replacement ratio of zeolite was increased. Under the effect of elevated temperature, natural zeolite incorporated concretes with lower binder content yielded higher compressive strength. However, the compressive strengths of concretes with higher binder content after elevated temperature effect were found to be lower than the reference concrete.

The purpose of this study was to remove the excessive air foaming which was produced in mixing the RSLMC(latex-modified concrete with rapid- setting cement) by choosing the best antifoam agent type and the optimized quantity for performance improved RSLMC. A series of RSLMM(latex-modified mortar with rapid-setting cement) experiments were carried out as the basic for RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as antifiamer types(A, B, C, D), antifoamer contents(0, 1, 2, 3%). Air content test and compressive, flexural tests were carried out to measure the improved properties of RSLMM and RSLMC. Chloride ion permeability test was carried out to estimate water permeability resistance. The results of RSLMM showed that the decrease of 50% air content was obtained by admixturing a antifoam agent by 1%. The compressive strength and flexural strength at 3 hours after RSLMC placement were 235kgf/cm$^2$ and 49kgf/cm$^2$, respectively, which exceeded the flexural strength criterion of 45kgf/cm$^2$ in order to open the RSLMC placed to traffic. The chloride permeability using A and C antifoamer at 28 days were below 100 coulombs, which was the permeability rating of negligible according to ASTM.
This paper conveys the effects of fly ash and silica fume incorporated in concrete at various replacement ratios on the durability properties of concretes. It is quite well known that concrete durability is as much important as strength and permeability is the key to durability. Permeability is closely associated with the voids system of concrete. Concrete, with less and disconnected voids, is assumed to be impermeable. The void system in concrete is straightly related to the mix proportions, placing, compaction, and curing procedures of concrete. Reinforced concrete structures, particularly those of subjected to water, are at the risk of various harmful agents such as chlorides and sulfate since the ingress of such agents through concrete becomes easy and accelerates as the permeability of concrete increases. Eventually, both strength and durability of concrete reduce as the time moves on, in turn; the service life of the concrete structures shortens. Mineral additives have been proven to be very effective in reducing permeability. The tests performed to accomplish the aim of the study are the rapid chloride permeability test, pressurized water depth test, capillarity test and compressive strength test. The results derived from these tests indicated that the durability properties of concretes incorporated fly ash and silica fume have improved substantially compared to that of without mineral additives regardless of the binder content used. Overall, the improvement becomes more evident as the replacement ratio of fly ash and silica fume have increased. With regard to permeability, silica fume is found to be superior to fly ash. Moreover, at least a 30% fly ash replacement and/or a replacement ratio of 5% to 10% silica fume have been found to be highly beneficial as far as sustainability is concerned, particularly for concretes subjected to chloride bearing environments.

This study was focused on the investigation of permeability of latex modified concrete as the latex content variated such as 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The rapid chloride permeability test was used to evaluate the relative permeability of latex-modified concretes and conventional concretes. The results showed that the permeability of latex-modified concretes was considerably lower than conventional concretes tested, which may be due to the latex filled in voids and interconnections of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles.
