This paper proposes a new bandgap reference (BGR) circuit which takes advantage of a cascode current mirror biasing to reduce the V$\_$ref/ variation, and sizing technique, which utilizes two related ratio numbers k and N, to reduce the PNP BJT area. The proposed BGR is designed and fabricated on a test chip with a goal to provide a reference voltage to the 10 bit A/D(4-4-4 pipeline architecture) converter of the CMOS Active Pixel Sensor (APS) imager to be used in X-ray imaging. The basic temperature variation effect on V$\_$ref/ of the BGR has a maximum delta of 6 mV over the temperature range of 25$^{\circ}C$ to 70$^{\circ}C$. To verify that the proposed BGR has radiation hardness for the X-ray imaging application, total ionization dose (TID) effect under Co-60 exposure conditions has been evaluated. The measured V$\_$ref/ variation under the radiation condition has a maximum delta of 33 mV over the range of 0 krad to 100 krad. For the given voltage, temperature, and radiation, the BGR has been satisfied well within the requirement of the target 10 bit A/D converter.
Wide-bandwidth SQUID current amplifier and its control electronics have been constructed for detecting pulse outputs of a superconducting microcalorimeter. The current amplifier made of a double relaxation oscillation SQUID (DROS) has a bandwidth of 1.2 MHz and typical white noise level of about 6 pA/(equation omitted) Hz. To increase the dynamic range of the current amplifier, the flux-locked loop (FLL) has additional circuits to reset the integrator and to count reset numbers which present the number of passed flux quanta. In this system, dynamic range covers from -65 mA to +65 mA. SQUID electronics are controlled by software to get the optimum FLL condition, and to control the current to bias the transition edge sensor (TES). The electronics are shielded from the outside electromagnetic noises by using an aluminum case of 66 mm ${\times}$ 25 mm ${\times}$ 100 mm, and consist of 2 separate printed-circuit-boards for the current amplifier and the control electronics, respectively. The SQUID current amplifier and its control electronics will be used in TESs for detecting photons such as UV and X-ray with high energy resolution.
For a connected graph G, an r-maximum edge-coloring is an edge-coloring f defined on E(G) such that at every vertex v with $d_G(v){\geq}r$ exactly r incident edges to v receive the maximum color. The r-maximum index $x^{\prime}_r(G)$ is the least number of required colors to have an r-maximum edge coloring of G. In this paper, we show how the r-maximum index is affected by adding an edge or a vertex. As a main result, we show that for each $r{\geq}3$ the r-maximum index function over the graphs admitting an r-maximum edge-coloring is unbounded and the range is the set of natural numbers. In other words, for each $r{\geq}3$ and $k{\geq}1$ there is a family of graphs G(r, k) with $x^{\prime}_r(G(r,k))=k$. Also, we construct a family of graphs not admitting an r-maximum edge-coloring with arbitrary maximum degrees: for any fixed $r{\geq}3$, there is an infinite family of graphs ${\mathcal{F}}_r=\{G_k:k{\geq}r+1\}$, where for each $k{\geq}r+1$ there is no r-maximum edge-coloring of $G_k$ and ${\Delta}(G_k)=k$.

Laminar natural convection heat transfer from an isothermal rectangular beam attached to horizontal and vertical adiabatic plates has been studied for various aspect ratios of the beam and Grashof numbers. The local Nusselt number was increased with decreasing H/B for the constant beam width, B, and with increasing H/B for the constant beam height, H. The total mean Nusselt number of the vertical type was higher than that of horizontal type in the range of H/B.leq.0.52, but reversed in the H/B>0.52 at constant beam width. The total mean Nusselt number of the horizontal type was generally higher than that of vertical type at constant beam height. The total mean Nusselt number of the vertical type was higher than that of horizontal type in the range of H/B.leq.0.43 at constant wetted perimeter, but reversed in the H/B$\leq$0.43.

A projectile when passes through a moving shock wave, experiences drastic changes in the aerodynamic forces as it moves from a high-pressure region to a low pressure region. These sudden changes in the forces are attributed to the wave structures produced by the projectile-flow field interaction, and are responsible for destabilizing the trajectory of the projectile. These flow fields are usually encountered in the vicinity of the launch tube exit of a ballistic range facility, thrusters, retro-rocket firings, silo injections, missile firing ballistics, etc. In earlier works, projectile was assumed in a steady flow field when the computations start and the blast wave maintains a constant strength. However, in real situations, the projectile produces transient effects in the flow field which have a deterministic effect on the overtaking process. In the present work, the overtaking problem encountered in the near-field of muzzle guns is investigated for several projectile Mach numbers. Computations have been carried out using a chimera mesh scheme. The results show that, the unsteady wave structures are completely different from that of the steady flow field where the blast wave maintains a constant strength, and the supersonic and subsonic overtaking conditions cannot be distinguished by identifying the projectile bow shock wave only.

In this paper, aspects of equalities with monomial left-hand side presented in Korean elementary school mathematics textbooks are analyzed focusing on the component of expressions. According to this analysis, the textbooks deal with equalities with monomial left-hand side as though the students already know them, rather than to introduce and deal with them systematically. In this paper, the following four suggestions based on this analysis are proposed as conclusions. First, A-type equalities (with one kinds of calculation symbols and two or more numbers, variables, denominative numbers in the right-hans side) and B-type equalities (with two or more kinds of calculation symbols and two or more numbers, variables, denominative numbers in the right-hans side) may need to be introduced by the explicit description. Second, it is necessary to establish clearly the order of dealing with numeric expressions, expressions with ${\Box}$(blank) expression, expressions with words, expressions with ${\Box}$(variable), expressions with variables. Third, it needs to be noted that equalities with monomial left-hand side cab be used with a variety of meanings. Fourth, it is necessary to widen the range of the number constituting equalities with monomial left-hand side to the natural number 0 and as well as fractions, decimals.

In the free molecular flow range, the pumping performance of a turbomolecular pump has been predicted by calculation of the transmission probability employing the integral method and the test particle Monte-Carlo method. The velocities of molecules incident upon a moving blade are given by the random numbers, which are sampled from the Maxwell molecular velocity distribution function. The present results agree quantitatively with the previous known numerical results. For a multi-stage pump, the velocity profile of molecules between two blade rows is not Maxwell distribution. In this case, the Monte-Carlo method is employed to calculate the overall transmission probability for the entire set of blade rows. When the results of the approximate method combining the single stage solutions are compared with those of the Monte-Carlo method for the pump having six rows at C=0.6, the approximate method overestimates as much as 36% in the maximum compression ratio and 19% in the maximum pumping speed than does the Mote-Carlo method.

Binomial trees are used to price barrier options. Since barrier options are path dependent, option values of each node are calculated from binomial trees using backward induction. We use generalized Catalan numbers to determine the number of cases not reaching a barrier. We will generalize Catalan numbers by imposing upper and lower bounds. Reaching a barrier in binomial trees is determined by the difference between the number of up states and down states. If we count the cases that the differences between the up states and down states remain in a specific range, the probability of not reaching a barrier is obtained at a final node of the tree. With probabilities and option values at the final nodes of the tree, option prices are computable by discounting the expected option value at expiry. Without calculating option values in the middle nodes of binomial trees, option prices are computable only with final option values. We can obtain a probability distribution of exercising an option at expiry. Generalized Catalan numbers are expected to be applicable in many other areas.

Experiments of normal shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction were conducted in a supersonic diffuser. The flow Mach number just upstream of the normal shock wave was in the range of 1.10 to 1.70 and Reynolds number based upon the turbulent boundary layer thickness was varied in the range of 2.2*10$^{[-994]}$ -4.4*10$^{[-994]}$ . The wall pressures in streamwise and spanwise directions were measured for two test cases, in which the turbulent boundary layer thickness incoming into the supersonic diffuser was changed. The results show that the interactions of normal shock wave with turbulent boundary layer in the supersonic diffuser can be divided into three patterns, i.e., transonic interaction, weak interaction and strong interaction, depending on Mach number. The weak interactions generate the post-shock expansion which its strength is strong as the Mach number increases and the strong interactions form the pseudo-shock waves. From the spanwise measurements of wall pressure, it is known that if the flow Mach number is low, the interacting flow fields essentially appear two-dimensional, but they have an apparent 3-dimensionality for the higher Mach numbers.
The spanwise flow structure around a rigid smooth circular cylinder model in cross-flow has been investigated based on the experimental data obtained from a series of wind tunnel tests. Surface pressures were collected at five spanwise locations along the cylinder over a Reynolds number range of $1.14{\times}15^5$ to $5.85{\times}10^5$, which covered sub-critical, single-bubble and two-bubble regimes in the critical range. Separation angles were deduced from curve fitted to the surface pressure data. In addition, spanwise correlations and power spectra analyses were employed to study the spatial structure of flow. Results at different spanwise locations show that the transition into single-bubble and two-bubble regimes could occur at marginally different Reynolds numbers which expresses the presence of overlap regions in between the single-bubble regime and its former and later regimes. This indicates the existence of three-dimensional flow around the circular cylinder in cross-flow, which is also supported by the observed cell-like surface pressure patterns. Relatively strong spanwise correlation of the flow characteristics is observed before each transition within the critical regime, or formation of first and second separation-bubbles. It is also noted that these organized flow structures might lead to greater overall aerodynamic forces on a circular cylinder in cross-flow within the critical Reynolds number regime.
