The present study numerically investigates two-dimensional fluid flow in the confined jet flow in the presence of applied magnetic field. Numerical simulations to calculate the fluid flow and heat transfer in the confined jet are performed for different Reynolds numbers in the absence and presence of magnetic fields in the range of $0{\le}N{\le}0.05$, where N is the Stuart number (interaction parameter) which is the ratio of electromagnetic force to inertia force. The present study reports the detailed information of flow in the channel at different Stuart numbers. As the intensity of applied magnetic fields increases, the vortex shedding formed in the channel becomes weaker and the oscillating amplitude of impinging jet decreases. The flow fields become the steady state if the Stuart number is greater than a critical value. Thus the pressure coefficients at the stagnation point also vary as a function of Stuart number.

This paper presents two methods of obtaining approximate analytic solutions for the temperature distributions and heat flow to two-dimensional transient heat conduction problems in a finite strip with constant thermal properties using the Heat Balance Integral. The methods introduced in this study are as follows; one using the Heat Balance Integral only, and the other successively using the Heat Balance Integral and an exact analytic method. Both methods are applicable to a large number of the two-dimensional unsteady conduction problems in finite regions such as extended surfaces with uniform thickness, but in this paper only solutions for the unsteady problems in a finite strip with boundary condition at the base expressed in terms of step function are provided as an illustration. Results obtained by both methods are compared with those by the exact two-dimensional transient analysis. It is found that both approximate methods generate small time solutions, which can not be obtained easily by any exact analytic method for small values of Fourier numbers. In the case of applying the successive use of the Heat Balance Integral and Laplace transforms, the analysis shows good agreement with the exact solutions for any Fourier number in the range of Biot numbers less than 0.5.
In order to examine the possibility of using a cavity as a passive device for reduction of skin friction and heat transfer, an intensive parametric study over a broad range of the cavity depth and length at different Reynolds numbers is performed for both laminar and turbulent boundary layers in the present study. Direct and large eddy simulation techniques are used for turbulent boundary layers at low and moderate Reynolds numbers, respectively. for both laminar and turbulent boundary layers over a cavity, a flow oscillation occurs due to the shear layer instability when the cavity depth and length are sufficiently large and it plays an important role in the determination of drag and heat-transfer increase or decrease. For a cavity sufficiently small to suppress the flow oscillation, both the total drag and heat transfer are reduced. Therefore, the applicability of a cavity as a passive device for reduction of drag and heat transfer is fully confirmed in the present study. Scaling based on the wall shear rate of the incoming boundary layer is also proposed and it is found to be valid in steady flow over a cavity.
Mold growth decreased nutritive value of wheat straw (WS). Mold increased DM (94 vs 98%) and ADF (51 vs 56%) contents and had no effect on natural detergent fiber (NDF). Crude protein and N values were decreased in moldy wheat straw, Mold increased insoluble N content of wheat straw (WS) from 21 to 27%. Ammoniation increased the CP of nonmoldy straw from 3.8 to 8.3% and moldy straw from (3.3 to 6.2%). Aspergillus and zygomycetes fungal species were most prevalent and total numbers were higher on moldy straw. Ammoniation decreased total numbers of fungal spores on nonmoldy and moldy WS. Ammoniation of moldy WS increased (p < 0.10) feed in take (1.8%) as compared with nonmoldy, ammoniated, nonmoldy and moldy WS. Steers fed moldy WS had lowest (p < 0.10) feed intake (1.3% of BW daily) compared with other diet. There was little difference (p < 0.10) in intake of nonammoniated vs. ammoniated WS. Steers fed moldy straw lost 6 kg BW. Ammoniated, nonmoldy straw elevated Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) (10.5 mg/dl). Alkaline Phosphatase (ALK) was greater in steers fed moldy VS nonmoldy straw (148 VS 95 U/liter. p < 0.10).
The local heat transfer and pressure drops of developed turbulent flows in the convergent channels with square cross-sectional areas along the streamwise distance have been investigated experimentally. Four different parallel angled ribs (a = $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$) are placed to the one sided wall only, respectively. The ribbed walls are manufactured with a fixed rib height (e)=10 mm and the ratio of rib spacing (p) to height (e) = 10. The measurement was run within the range of Reynolds numbers from 22,000 to 79,000. The result shows that the increases in the Nusselt numbers for the flow attack angles can be seen in the order of $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$.

The finite analytic method is extended to solve the steady two dimensional Navier-Stokes equation of stream functions and vorticity in polar coordinate system. The method is applied to calculate laminar flows in a sector cavity where the motion is induced by the rotation of the outer wall. Numerical solutions are obtained in the range of Reynolds number 0 to 5000 and aspect ratios 0.50, 1.20, 1.60 and 1.92. The finite analytic method is verfied to be accurate and fast convergent at high Reynolds numbers. It is promising as a numerical method of viscous flows and heat transfer. Flows in sector cavities show different flow structures and formation of secondary vortex with aspect ratios and Reynolds numbers in comparison with rectangular cavities.

In this study, the scale effect on the performance of the podded propeller of tractor type is investigated. Turbulent flow computations are carried out for Reynolds numbers increasing progressively from model scale to full scale using the CFD analysis. The result of the flow calculation for model scale Reynolds numbers agrees well with that of the experiment of a large cavitation tunnel. The existing numerical analysis indicates that the performance of the podded propeller blades is mainly influenced by the advance coefficient and relatively little by the Reynolds number. However, the drag of pod housing with propeller in operation is different from that of pod housing without propeller due to the acceleration and swirl of propeller slipstream which is altered by propeller loading as well as the pressure recovery and friction according to Reynolds number, which suggests that the pod housing drag under the condition of propeller in operation is the key factor of the scale effect on the performance between model and full scale podded propellers. The so called 'drag ratio', which is the ratio of pod housing drag to total thrust of podded propeller, increases as the advance coefficient increases due to accelerated flow in the slipstream of the podded propeller. However, the increasing rate of the drag ratio reduces continuously as the Reynolds number increases from model to full scale progressively. The contribution of hydrodynamic forces, which acts on the parts composed of the pod housing with propeller operating in various loading conditions, to the thrust and the torque of the total propeller unit are presented for a range of Reynolds numbers from model to full scales.
Catalpol, an iridoid glucoside, isolated from the root of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. It possesses a broad range of biological and pharmacological activity including anti-tumor, anti-inflammation and anti-oxidant by acting as a free radical scavenger. Therefore, in this study, the effects of catalpol on blastocyst development, expression levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and apoptotic index were investigated in porcine embryos. After in vitro maturation and fertilization, porcine embryos were cultured for 6 days in porcine zygote medium 3 (PZM-3) supplemented with catalpol (0, 100, 200 and $400{\mu}M$, respectively). Blastocyst development not significantly improved in the catalpol treated group when compared with control group. Otherwise, the intracelluar levels of ROS were decreased and the numbers of apoptotic nuclei were reduced in the catalpol ($100{\mu}M$) treated porcine blastocysts (P<0.05). On the other hand, blastocyst development was significantly improved in the catalpol ($100{\mu}M$) treated group when compared with the untreated catalpol group under $H_2O_2$ ($200{\mu}M$) induced oxidative stress (P<0.05). Otherwise, the intracellular levels of ROS in catalpol ($100{\mu}M$) treated group were significantly decreased in the untreated catalpol group under $H_2O_2$ ($200{\mu}M$) induced oxidative stress (P<0.05). Furthermore, the total cell numbers of blastocysts were significantly increased (P<0.05) in the catalpol ($100{\mu}M$) treated group under $H_2O_2$ ($200{\mu}M$) induced oxidative stress, whereas numbers of apoptoic nuclei were significantly reduced (P<0.05). In conclusion, our results indicate that treatment of catalpol may have important implications for improving developmental competence and preimplantation quality of porcine embryos through its anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic effect.
The offects of a small control rod (d=3mm) located near a main circular cylinder on the drag reduction and wake structure modification were investigated. The location of the small control rod mounted on a rod-like spring is self-adjusting according to the wake structure far optimal control of the flow around the main cylinder. The experiments were carried out at the Reynolds numbers based on the cylinder diameter (D=50mm) in the range $Re_{D}=1{\times}10^4{\~}6{\times}10^4$. Mean velocity and turbulent statistics were measured with varying the angle along the cylinder circumference ${\Theta}=15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$ and the distance between the main and control rods L =0.7, 1. Compared with the bare cylinder, the main circular cylinder with the fixed and self-adjusting rods reduced drag coefficient by $10{\%}$ at the angle of ${\Theta}=45^{\circ}$. For the main cylinder with self-adjusting rot as the Reynolds numbers increase, the streamwise mean velocity is increased, however, the turbulence intensity is decreased. In addition, the control rods tested in this study are effective at higher Reynolds number than at lower Reynolds number.
Water quality, benthic macroinvertebrate communities, and other factors were investigated to explore the effects of the effluent discharge from a sewage treatment plant into Jwagwang stream in Busan in 2019. During the study period, the flow rate of this stream was in the range of 10,400 m3/day to 52,200 m3/day except for the discharge of about 24,000 m3/day of the effluent. After discharge, the flow velocity increased by about 65% and the water depth increased by about 40%. At sites downstream of the discharge point, BOD, COD, TOC, T-N, T-P, and other water quality values were worse than those of the upstream sites. The periphytic algal chlorophyll-a concentrations in the natural substrata were higher than those of the upstream sites, especially in May and August. However, at sites downstream of the discharge point, the individual numbers of Annelida were decreased and individual numbers of the insecta of arthropoda were increased. Also, species numbers and the diversity and dominance indexes were improved in the sites downstream of the discharge point. The functional feeding groups (FFGs) of collector-filterers were increased and the habitat orientation groups (HOGs) of sprawlers, burrowers, and clingers were especially increased at the sites with additional reclaimed wastewater effluent flow. Regardless of the effluent discharge, BMI, an indicator of ecological stream health using benthic macroinvertebrate species, did not show large gaps between the study points. Although the water quality of the sites downstream of the discharge point was much worse than those upstream, their ecosystem soundness was better than those of the upstream sites from an ecological perspective.
