  • The problem of reducing the vibration level of elastic plates driven by multiple random point forces is analyzed in this study. First, the analytical solution for the vibration level of finite thin plates with four simply supported edges under the action of multiple random point force is derived. By assuming the plates to be lightly damped, an approximate solution for the vibration level of the plate is obtained. A numerical study is carried out to determine an optimal spacing distance between the multiple point forces in order to produce a relative minimum in the plate's vibration level. The optimal spacing distance is shown to depend on the given excitation band. The effects of wave cancellation in the near field of the multiple point forces are discussed by using the equivalence of certain stationary random responses and deterministic pulse responese.

  • This paper investigates the problem of random analysis of fixed structures which are influenced by waves and current. Morison eqution was employed to deal with the wave and current load. The wave kinematics are randomly generated from the wave spectrum. The necessary statistics are calculated from the resulting response time history. The simulation results are turned out to be very sensitive to the simulation technique.

  • In this study, transmission and reflection of multi-directional random waves propagating over multi-arrayed submerged breakwaters are investigated using eigenfunction expansion method. The numerical analysis on the wave energy reflection of submerged breakwaters with various crown widths is carried out. Strong wave reflection is occurred at the Bragg reflection condition of the peak frequency. When relative heights and crown widths of breakwaters are equal to 0.6 and 0.4h, respectively, more than 25% of wave energy is reflected to off shore.

  • In this paper, the secondary wound type induction machiner was applied to random wave input generation system. It is necessary to know the transient sate of the induction machine, for getting the stabilized power from the random wave input. Here the two-axis theory is adopted and the primary and secondary variables like as current, voltages, power were calculated. From the fluctuating natural power, we can get the CVCF output power by using microprocessor control VSI.

  • The equilibrium beach profiles with the effects of random waves and nonuniform grain size in the surf zone are derived from the Thornton and Guza(1983)'s energy dissipation model. The derived beach profiles are the functions of the breaking wave strength, the frequency of the incident wave, and the wave induced-energy dissipation at breaking point. It is not confirmed that the equilibrium beach profiles are better agreement with the measured profiles than the classical profiles. However, the characteristic of the changes of the beach profiles with respect to the breaking wave stgrngth and the frequency of the incident wave can be analyzed which has not been studied by the classical model.

  • Real sea waves in a towing wave basin have been generated using random periodic motion of the segmented wave makers and the wave reflections of sidewalls. Theoretically, the real sea waves can be described by the superposition of many random oblique waves. This paper introduces numerical real sea wave generation in a rectangular wave basin using spectral method that uses a superposition of orthogonal functions which have to satisfy the Laplace equation. Oblique regular waves, long crested irregular waves and real sea waves were simulated and met the requirement of sidewall wave reflection and wave absorption. MLM (Maximum Likelihood Method) and Spatial Fourier Transform were used in order to obtain propagated wave direction characteristics. The estimated results proved the usefulness of the method and the performances showed reasonable directional patterns comparing with generating patterns.

  • This paper proposes an effective inertia coefficient (EIC) in the Morison equation for better wave-force calculations. The OC4 semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) platform was considered to test the feasibility. Large diffraction at large Keulegan-Carpenter (KC) numbers and the interaction between columns can result in errors in estimating the wave force using the Morison equation with a theoretical inertia coefficient, which can be corrected by the EIC as a function of the wave period and direction. The horizontal and vertical wave forces were calculated using the Morison equation and potential theory at each column, wave period, and wave direction. The EICs of each column were then obtained, resulting in a minimal difference between the Morison inertia force and the wave excitation force by the potential theory. The EICs, wave forces, phase angles, and dynamic motions were compared to confirm the feasibility of an EIC concept under regular and random waves.

  • In this paper time series wave data are simulated by the Monte Calo method using random numbers to generate random phases of the wave signal. The simulated wave signasl are used to study the characteristics of freak waves. Various sea states are represented by combinations of the significant wave height $H_s$ defined in the spectrum method and the significant wave steepness $S_s$. For a fixed value of $S_s$, the probability of the occurrence of the freak wave is decreased as $H_s$ increases. For a fixed value of $H_s$ the probability of the occurrence of the freak wave increases as $S_s$ increases. The average value of the maximum wave height increase as $S_s$ increases, but the average height of freak wave remains the same and the value approaches two times of $H_s$. For the fixed value of $S_s$, average kurtosis of wave elevation increases as $H_s$ increases, but for a fixed $H_s$, the average kurtosis decreases as $S_s$ increases. The average of abnormality index(AI) is around 2.11 irregardless of $H_s$ and $S_s$. The maximum value of AI lies between 2.5 - 3.0. Therefore it is conjectured that AI maximum due to linear focusing is 3.0.

  • A reliability analysis is straightforwardly applied to the sloped coastal structures against the random wave overtopping. A reliability function can be directly derived from a empirical formula in which may take into account many variables associated with the random wave overtopping. The probability of failure exceeded the allowable overtopping discharge can be evaluated as a function of dimensionless crest height with some reasonable statistical properties and distribution functions of each random variable. Some differences of probabilities of failure occurred from variations of the slopes of structures as well as types of armour are investigated into quantitatively. Additionally, the effects of the crest width of units placed in front of the concrete cap on the probability of failure may be analyzed. Finally, the sensitivity analyses are carried out with respect to the uncertainties of random variables. It is found that the overall characteristics similar to the known experimental results are correctly represented in this reliability analyses. Also, it should be noted that the probabilities of failure may be quantitatively obtained for several structural and hydraulic conditions, which never assess in the deterministic design method. Thus, it may be possible for determination on the crest height of sloped coastal structures to consider the probability of failure of wave overtopping, by which may be increased the efficiency of practical design.

  • In this work, the electromagnetic waves scattered from 2-dimensional random rough surfaces are characterized by the $4\times4$ Mueller matrix elements. The full wave solutions are used to compute these elements. The results of the full wave solutions for 1-dimensional random rough surfaces were shown to agree well with those of the experiment and the method of moments. The Mueller matrix elements are related to the like and cross polarized radar cross sections as well as to the relative phase of the vertically and horizontally polarized waves. The $4\times4$ Mueller matrix elements completely characterize electromagnetic scattering from target. The computed results of this paper can be useful to the field of active remote sensing or RCS.
