  • Analytic modeling and computational simulation for the protection of DTV from cognitive radio interference are performed. Protection is achieved by using the protection ratio, which is derived through system modeling and its analysis. On the frequency coordination between digital TV and cognitive radio, an analysis in a co-channel environment, in a rural area in Korea, is performed.

  • This paper suggests an efficient method of protection ratio(PR) calculation and shows some results of point-to-point radio relay system for frequency coordination. The proposed PR can be expressed as a function of C/N of modulation scheme, noise-to-interference ratio(N/I), multiple interference allowance, fade margins of multi-Path and rain attenuation and net filter discrimination. And PR calculation is performed in view of fade margin, modulation scheme, distance, and interference for actual point-to-point radio relay frequency. According to results for 6.2 GHz, 64-QAM and 60 km at BER 10-6, fade margin and co-channel Protection ratio reveal 41.1dB and 74.9 dB, respectively The merit of presented method provides a systematic and easy calculation by means of PR correction factor related with various parameters and can apply the same concept to frequency coordination of millimeter wave radio relay system.

  • Cognitive radio (CR) MAC protocol provides access control of unused spectrum resources without causing interference to primary users. To achieve this goal, in this paper a TDMA based cooperative multi-channel cognitive radio MAC (MCR-MAC) protocol is proposed for wireless ad hoc networks to provide reliable protection for primary users by achieving cooperative detection of incumbent system signals around the communication pair. Each CR node maintains transmission opportunity schedules and a list of available channels that is employed in the neighbor discovery period. To avoid possible signal collision between incumbent systems and cognitive radio ad hoc users, we propose a simple but efficient emergency notification message exchanging mechanism between neighbor CR nodes with little overhead. Our simulation results show that the proposed MCR-MAC can greatly reduce interference with primary users and remarkably improve the network throughput.

  • This paper first outlines the technology used in Power Line Communications(PLC) systems, and the political support being offered to the technology, from the point of view of its effect on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The radio spectrum needs protection from other interferers, and there is a regime in place to provide this interference avoidance/mitigation. Nevertheless, PLC has several features that mean that it is capable of creating such interference. These features are discussed, and some published field trial results are reviewed. Difficulties in achieving compatibility between the requirements for radio protection and the requirements for operation of the PLC system mean that there is no consensus as yet as to how PLC system components can be made compliant with EMC requirements. It is concluded that there is little prospect of an accommodation between the competing demands, so that if PLC is to become widespread it will be at the expense of the radio environment.

  • This paper suggests the method to calculate radiation limit of ISM(Industrial Scientific Medical) equipment in order to protect radio device in the situation that ISM equipment and radio device are operated in near distance. The factor for correction and protection ratio which is need for protecting radio device were considered to calculate radiation limit of ISM equipment. Also, the scenario which is required to limit radiation power of ISM equipment was referred and the S/W for calculation of radiation limit was developed by using GUI(Graphical User Interface) on Matlab. The suggested method for calculation of radiation limit of ISM equipment will be used to protect radio device from ISM equipment.

  • This paper suggests an efficient and comprehensive algorithm of the protection ratio derivation and illustrates some calculated results applicable to the initial planning of frequency coordination in the fixed wireless access networks. The net filter discrimination associated with Tx spectrum mask and overall Rx filter characteristic has been also examined to show the effect of the adjacent channel interference. The calculations for co-channel and adjacent channel protection ratios are performed for the current microwave frequency band of 6.7 GHz including Tx spectrum mask and Rx filter response. According to results, fade margin and co-channel protection ratio reveal 41.4 and 75.2 dB, respectively, for 64-QAM and 60 km at BER $10^{-6}$. It is shown that the net filter discrimination with 40 MHz channel bandwidth provides 28.9 dB at the first adjacent channel, which yields 46.3 dB of adjacent channel protection ratio. In addition, the protection ratio of 38 GHz radio relay system is also reviewed for millimeter wave band applications. The proposed method gives some advantages of an easy and systematic extension for protection ratio calculation and is also applied to frequency coordination in fixed millimeter wave networks.

  • In this paper, we propose the technical considerations for the rules on television white space(TVWS), that becomes a center of public notice, in terms of incumbent services protection, technical requirements of television band devices (TVBDs) and administration of TV band databases. The basic idea behind the proposed method is based on the perfect protection of incumbent services such as digital television and wireless microphone. It has been found that FCC's approach has the advantage that a list of available channels and transmission power are provided for TVBDs faster than Ofcom's approach that requires DB to perform the algorithm for determining frequencies and transmission power for TVBDs everytime DB is asked from TVBDs.

  • Rhapontica uniflora, Platycodon grandiflorum and Solanum tuberosum extracts affected the recovery of radiation-induced damage at all tested doses $(15.6,\;31.3,\;62.5\;and\;125\;{\mu}g/ml)$. The survival rate of pretreatment with extracts was increased by 2 times more than its compared with untreated cells. All tested extracts protected the growh-delay of normal cells and haematological parameters from their radiation-induced fall. In tested extracts, Solanum tuberosum was significantly superior to Platycodon grandiflorum and Rhapontica uniflora in radio-protection activity.

  • This paper analyzes potential interference effect of DTV service on Radio Microphone in adjacent channel. For analysis, we assume that DTV operates on CH 51(692 MHz ~ 698 MHz) and radio microphone operates on CH 52 (698 MHz ~ 704 MHz) according to the Korea Communications Commission policy. Minimum Coupling Loss(MCL) method is used to determine the required protection distance and Monte Carlo method is used to determine guard band to meet interference probability of 0 % below. In conclusions, protection distance of 1.71 km and guard band of 2.4 MHz are required for indoor and protection distance of 18.86 km and guard band of 5.7 MHz are required for outdoor.
