  • With the progress of the electronics industry and radio communication technology, certain problems, such as electromagnetic interference(EMI), have arisen due to the increased use of electromagnetic(EM) waves. International organizations such as CISPR, FCC, and ANSI have provided the standards for the EM wave environment and for the countermeasure of the electromagnetic compatibility(EMC). EM wave absorbers are used for constructing an anechoic chamber to test and measure EMI and electromagnetic susceptibility(EMS). In this paper, we have designed an one-body EM(electromagnetic) wave ferrite absorber, based on the equivalent material constants method for both normally and obliquely incident waves, whose absorption abilities are superior to that of the conventional ones. The fabricated absorber has a thickness of 27.68 mm and shows an absorption ability over 20 ㏈ in the frequency from 30 MHz to 6 ㎓.

  • With rapid development of communication industry, the kinds of communication service vary. According to the increasing use of radio waves, the intelligent and effective radio monitoring system needs to be developed, which is replaced for previous radio monitoring system. Next-generation intelligent radio monitoring system based on ITU-R, Rule of wireless facilities, and Radio Waves Act is used, and which can accurately and effectively function as effective radio monitoring system through spectrum analysis of channel power, frequency deviation, offset, and an occupied frequency bandwidth(99% or x-dB), about the analog and digital signal in On-Air of V/UHF bandwidth. Main function of the system has an radio quality measurement, unwanted electromagnetic signals (spurious, harmonic) measurement, high-speed spectrum measurement, frequency usage efficiency investigation, illegal radio exploration, working monitoring, In this paper, we proposes radio quality measurement, high-speed spectrum measurement of next-generation intelligent radio monitoring system.

  • Recently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan has reported on a plan for the "effective use of radio waves" to be promoted in the 2020s. This includes promotion of the effective use of public frequencies, reviews of frequency allocation and transition systems, and spectrum usage fee system. Based on the proposals in this study, concrete systems for revising related laws, such as the Radio Law, will be designed and implemented. In addition, the government will jointly conduct research and development as well as verification tests in cooperation with industry, academia, and government. A plan to improve the system for the effective use of radio waves will then be devised. This study examines the policy directions of the frequency utilization system that Japan plans to use for radio waves in the 2020s. The policy directions are analyzed selectively while considering the radio waves utilization system in Korea, and implications for domestic applications are derived. Based on the research from this study, analyzing the radio policies of advanced countries, including those of England and the United States, and utilizing them to establish an effective use plan of radio waves in Korea are deemed necessary.

  • The Spectrum Usage Fee System which has been introduced and enforced since 1993 has had a great role for effective use of the radio frequency resources and the promotion of radio wave industry. However, the current system has been criticized due to several drawbacks. For example, broadcasting stations and national institutions are exempted whereas the overdue utility rate on some frequency has been imposed. So there has been rising the questions on whether the principles of fair imposition are broken. Another problem regarding the current system is that how to calculate the fee is too much complicated, and it needs to be revised into a simpler and clearer formulation. In this regard, this study intends to propose a new calculation framework for the radio spectrum usage fee and then prove its validity empirically on the basis of real data gathered from MIC and focus group interview.

  • Cost-effective, robust devices for solid-state lighting industry that converts electricity to light revolutionize the current lighting industry. Phosphor materials used in these devices should be synthesized in a low-cost and effective method for use in WLEDs. In this presentation, the synthesis of Eu3+ ions doped BaMoO4 phosphor samples by a facile synthesis process for red component of WLEDs will be shown. The tetragonal phase of the host lattice was substantiated by the X-ray diffraction patterns. The morphological studies were carried out by using a field-emission scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. These confirmed the formation of a shuttle like particles with perpendicular protrusions in the middle of the particle. The photoluminescence (PL) properties exhibited good emission with a high asymmetry ratio when excited with ultraviolet B wavelengths (~ 280-315 nm). The cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra showed similar results to the PL spectra, indicating the rich red emission. The results suggest that this phosphor is a good material as red region component in the development of tri-band UV excitation based WLEDs.

  • Abstract KOMAC(Korea Multi-Purpose Accelerator Complex, KAERI) has been operating a 100 MeV proton accelerator and is going to produce 68Ga isotope which is useful for diagnosis of cancer. So, it is necessary to develop a transport container for radio-activated targets. In this study, we carry out shielding analysis and structural analysis for the radio-activated target transport container using simulation programs. According to the Type A standard, the transport container includes an inner container and an overpack container. The main material of inner container is lead, and the shape is cylindrical with diameter of 152mm, height of 142mm and weight about 29 kg. It is planned to verify the possibility of field application through production of the transport container prototype in the future.

  • Pharmacokinetic (PK) data provide pivotal information in drug development, and they are usually first studied in the preclinical stage using various animals. However, quite often, animal PK data may not match with human PK, especially in metabolites. Thus, most regulatory agencies in the world make it mandatory to obtain metabolite information using 14C radiolabeled drug in human for small molecule drug candidates. However, such studies are expensive and time consuming and they are usually done at the end of Phase II trials using ~3.7 MBq of 14C labeled drug in a limited number of human subjects. Introduction of accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) in this kind of study has revolutionized it. Since AMS can measure 14C level as close as natural abundance, it can quantify the amounts of 14C labeled drugs and their metabolites produced in human body that consumes less than the amount of 0.0037 MBq of 14C labeled drug, a very safe level of radioactive dose in human. Therefore, it is now possible to conduct human 14C studies safely in early clinical trials without spending hefty amount of money and time. Korea Radioisotope Center for Pharmaceuticals(KRICP) at Korea Institute of Biological and Medical Sciences(KIRAMS) has established an AMS facility in 2018, housing a 0.5MV AMS manufactured at the US National Electrostatics Corps (NEC). The AMS instrument has been validated using various standard samples that have been prepared at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the US, a worldly reputable provider of AMS standards. In this paper, we present a mass balance study for acetaminophen in rats using AMS and prove that the study results are equivalent with those of literature, which shows the AMS facilities at KRICP has successfully installed and be ready to be used in the various PK studies using 14C labelled compounds for new drug development.

  • On the contrary to the progress of the electronic industry and radio communication technologies, many social problems such as EMI, due to unnecessary electromagnetic(EM) wave are serious with the increased use of EM wave. It is required that the absorbing capability of an EM wave absorber is more than 20 dB, the bandwidth of which is required from 30 MHz to 18 GHz to satisfy the international standard about an anechoic chamber for EMI/EMS measurement$^{[1]}$TEX>. However, the absorbing frequency band of the conventional EM wave absorbers satisfying more than 20 dB is very narrow, for examples, from 30 MHz to 400 MHz in ferrite tile type and from 30 MHz to 870 MHz in ferrite grid type, respectively. In this paper, we proposed and designed a new tripe absorber with broadband characteristics covering the frequency band from 30 MHz to 10 GHz by use of the equivalent material constants method (EMCM)$^{[2]~[4]}$TEX>.
