We examine the morphology and luminosity distribution of a strongly warped spiral galaxy PGC 20348 by conducting a detailed BVI CCD surface photometry using BOAO 1.8m telescope. The radial surface brightness shows a break at warp radius $(r_{\omega})$ with a shallow gradient in the inner disk and a steeper gradient in the outer disk. The luminosity of east side of the disk is ${\sim}0.5$ mag fainter than the west side at r > $r_{\omega}$. The reason for the asymmetric luminosity distribution is thought to be the asymmetric flarings that result in the formation of a large diffuse region at the edge of the east disk and a smaller diffuse region at the west disk. The vertical luminosity profiles show a thick disk component whose scale heights increase with increasing galactocentric distances. The warp of PGC 20348 seems to be made by the tidal interactions with the two massive companion galaxies since the flarings and radial increase of disk scale heights are thought to be general properties of tidally perturbed disks. According to the colors of the two clumps inside the diffuse region at the edge of the east disk, they seem to be sites of active star formation triggered by tidal forces from the companion galaxies.
Gibbs ensemble Monte Carlo simulations were performed to calculate the vapor- liquid coexistence properties for the binary mixtures $CO_2/C_3H8$, $CO_2/CH_3OCH_3$, and $CO_2/CH_3COCH_3.$ For all the molecules the potential between sites in different molecules was simply calculated by the Lennard-Jones potential. Density of the mixture, composition of the mixture, the pressure-composition diagram, the chemical potential of component, and the radial distribution function were calculated at vapor- liquid equilibrium. The composition and the density of both vapor and liquid from simulation agreed considerably well with the experimental values over a wide range of pressures. The radial distribution functions in the liquid mixtures showed that $CO_2$ molecules tended to form cluster with each other and $C_3H8$ molecules also aggregated each other due to the weak interaction between $CO_3$ and $C_3H8$ molecule. However the interaction potentials between the same components were similar to those between the different components in the liquid mixtures $CO_2/CH_3OCH_3$ and $CO_2/CH_3COCH_3$.

The coil-to-globule behavior of poly{${\gamma}$-2-[2-(2methoxyethoxy)ethoxy]ethoxy-3-caprolactone} (PMEEECL) as a ${\gamma}$-substituted poly (${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) was investigated via atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. For this purpose, radius of gyration, end-to-end distance and radial distribution function of the chain in the presence of water were calculated. Consequently, the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of PMEEECL chain at which the coil-to-globule transition takes place, was determined in each calculated parameter curve. The simulation results indicated that the LCST of PMEEECL was occurred at close to 320 K, which is in a good agreement with previous experimental results. Additionally, the appearance of sudden change in both Flory-Huggins interaction parameter (${\chi}$) and interaction energy between the PMEEECL chain and water molecules at about 320 K confirmed the calculated LCST result. The radial distribution function (RDF) results showed that the affinity of the PMEEECL side chain to water molecules is lower than its backbone.
Power distribution system has been changed from radial system to closed loop or mesh system due to connection of distributed generation growth. Data from distribution equipments which are installed at distribution line is required to be accurate for the performance of DMS(Distribution Management System). This paper analyzes the voltage measurement data from distribution equipment. However, the results of the analysis are confirmed to have some errors in voltage measurement data from distribution equipment. These errors come from aging of voltage sensor in distribution equipment and inaccurate data transfer to FRTU(feeder remote terminal unit) through the controller. The main problem is that the voltage measurement data of distribution equipment can not be assessed after it's first installation at the distribution line. The voltage measurement accuracy assessment system is to assess the voltage measurement data from distribution equipment on hot-line. This study had a field test to verify the performance of system.
Translation of tornadoes is an important feature in replicating the near-ground tornado flow field which has been simulated in previous studies based on Ward-type tornado simulators using relative motion of the ground plane. In this laboratory investigation, effects of translation on the near-ground tornado flow field were studied using the ISU Tornado Simulator that can physically translate over a ground plane. Two translation speeds, 0.15 m/s and 0.50 m/s, that scale up to those corresponding to slowly-moving tornadoes in the field were selected for this study. Compared with the flow field of a stationary tornado, the simulated tornado with translation had an influence on the spatial distribution and magnitude of the horizontal velocities, early reversal of the radial inflow, and expansion of the core radius. Maximum horizontal velocities were observed to occur behind the center of the translating tornado and on the right side of its mean path. An increase in translation speed, resulted in reduction of maximum horizontal velocities at all heights. Comparison of the results with previous studies that used relative motion of the ground plane for simulating translating tornadoes, showed that translation has similar effects on the flow field at smaller radial distances (~2 core radius), but different effects at larger radial distances (~4 core radius). Further, it showed that the effect of translation on velocity profiles is noticeable at and above an elevation of ~0.6 core radius, unlike those in studies based on the relative motion of the ground plane.
This paper presents a new approach using an Improved branch exchange (IBE) technique to maximize the voltage stability as well as loss minimization in radial power systems. A suitable voltage stability index (VSI) for optimal routing algorithm is developed using novel methods both a critical transmission path based on a voltage phasor approach and an equivalent impedance method. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm can automatically detect the critical transmission path to be reached to a critical load faced with voltage collapse due to additional real or reactive leading. To develop an effective optimization technique, we also have applied a branch exchange algorithm based on a newly derived index of loss change. The proposed IBE algorithm for VSI maximization can effectively search the optimal topological structures of distribution feeders by changing the open/closed states of the sectionalizing and tie switches. The proposed algorithm has been tested with the various radial power systems to show its favorable performance.
An experimental study of impinging jet-flow structure has been carried out for a fully developed single circular jet impingement cooling on a flat plate, and the effect of the wall thickness at nozzle exit edge is investigated. Impinging jet flow structures have been measured by Laser-Doppler Velocimeter to interpret the heat transfer results presented previously by Yoon et al.(sup)(10) The peaks of heat transfer rate are observed near the nozzle edge owing to the radial acceleration of jet flow when the nozzle locates close to the impingement plate. The growth of the velocity fluctuations in the wall jet flow is induced by the vortices which originate in the jet shear layer, and consequently the radial distribution of local Nusselt numbers has a secondary peak at the certain radial position. As a wall of circular pipe nozzle becomes thicker for small nozzle-to-target distance, the entrainment can be inhibited, consequently, the acceleration of wall jet flow is reduced and the heat transfer rate decreases.
The operating point of a small-sized axial fan is strongly dependent upon the system resistance. Therefore, the turbulent flow characteristics around a small-sized axial fan may change significantly according to the operating point. This study represents three-dimensional turbulent flow characteristics around a small-sized axial fan measured at the ideal design point $\phi$=0.25, which is equivalent to the maximum total efficiency point, by using three dimensional fiber-optic type LDA system. This LDA system is composed of a 5 W Argon-ion laser, two optics in back-scatter mode, three BSAs, a PC, and a three-dimensional automatic traversing system. A kind of paraffin fluid is used to supply particles by means of fog generator. Mean velocity profiles downstream of a small-sized axial fan along the radial distance show that the streamwise and the tangential components exist in a predominant manner, while the radial component has a small scale distribution and shows the inflection which its flow direction is inward or outward. Moreover, the turbulent intensity profiles show that the radial component exists the most greatly among turbulent energies.
