  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, and influencing factors on health behaviors among female college students. Methods: Using the Osteoporosis Quiz, the Health belief Scale, and the Health Behavior Questionnaire, data were collected from 314 female college students from 4 universities located in Chungcheong providence. Results: The mean scores of knowledge and health belief were $12.7{\pm}3.81$ and $90.9{\pm}12.66$, respectively. There was a statistically significant correlation between osteoporosis knowledge and health belief (p<.001). Also, a statistically significant correlation was found between health belief and health behavior (p<.001). According to the regression model, knowledge, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, family history of osteoporosis, and health interest explained 6.7% of total variance in health behavior. Conclusion: Female college students should be taught to be aware of the importance of proper dietary intake and regular exercise as a way to maintain or promote the health of their bones so that they can prevent osteoporosis.

  • The convergence of mobile communications and handheld computers offers the opportunity to develop technology that will assist individuals and groups to learn anytime, anywhere. In this thesis, we suggest a learning model for educational mobile contents, and implement a mobile contents for English vocabulary learning. The mobile contents consist of two parts: vocabulary learning and vocabulary evaluation. The vocabulary learning provides the mobile learner not only the display of English vocabulary but also the pronunciation of native speaker. The degree of learning achievement is evaluated by the quiz program of game style. Accordingly, the proposed prototype system for English vocabulary learning is designed and implemented, as an exemplar of personal mobile systems for edutainment mobile learning.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a sexual abuse prevention education program for elementary school students. Methods: Orem's Self-Care Theory (1995) and Seels & Richey's ADDIE model (1994) for developing learning materials were applied to develop this program Results: The development progress of the program consisted of 5 distinct phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The contents was classified into 6 categories: the definition of sexual abuse, how to deal with sexual abuse, the situational reaction, areas with a high risk for sexual abuse, related organizations, and a wrap-up quiz. The app was easily accessible for elementary school students. Conclusion: A sexual abuse prevention program using a hybrid app may be an effective way to reach elementary students, and further research for children of various ages is required.

  • Purpose: This study developed and evaluated a systematic intervention among medical ICU nurses for preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia (hereafter VAP). Methods: A VAP prevention program was proposed based on a literature review, revised to fit the target situation, and validated. It was composed of one-time interventions including education, pamphlets, hand cultures, and a quiz event, as well as repeated interventions such as posters, reminders, posting hand culture results, and performance feedback. A simulated control group pretest-posttest design was used to verify the effectiveness of the VAP control program. The incidence of VAP among ICU patients was measured both during 3 months before (n=80) and during 3 months after (n=75) intervention. Results: The VAP prevention program's effectiveness, with a pre-intervention VAP rate of 17.38 and post-intervention rate of 11.04 per 1,000 ventilator days, showed a clinical tendency to decrease, but the difference was not statistically significant (p=.750). Conclusion: A VAP prevention program of multiple interventions can be useful in decreasing the VAP rate. Given that the monthly decrease in the VAP rate was not considered statistically significant, long-term research needs to be done. Additionally, since this study targeted only nurses, it is suggested that future research targets other health care workers who can influence VAP rates.

Method: The system was developed based on system development life cycle and software prototyping using the following 5 processes: Analysis, Planning, Developing, Program Operation, and Final Evaluation. Result: The system consisted of modules for evidence-based nursing and protocol, guide for developing protocol, tool for saving, revising, and deleting the protocol, interface tool among users, and tool for evaluating users' satisfaction of the system. On the main page, there were 7 menu bars that consisted of Introduction of site, EBN info, Dementia info, Evidence Based Practice Protocol, Protocol Bank, Community, and Site Link. In the operation of the system, HTML, JavaScript, and Flash were utilized and the content consisted of text content, interactive content, animation, and quiz. Conclusion: This system can support nurses' best and cost-effective clinical decision using sharable standardized protocols consisting of the best evidence in dementia care. In addition, it can be utilized as an e-learning program for nurses and nursing students to learn use of evidence based information.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to survey the viewpoints on the material safety data sheets(MSDS) training for safety and health managers(SHMs) and workers. Subjects and Methods: A surveillance was made using a self-reported questionnaire for 78 SHMs and 122 workers to survey their viewpoints on the MSDS training. Survey results were analyzed using the SPSS program(Version 12.0 SPSS Inc., USA). Results: The result of the study shows that there are contrasts with the cognition of SHMs' and workers' on the education of MSDS and the program preference for education efficiency of MSDS. Workers were significantly more interested in the MSDS education than the SHMs did. Workers preferred the education program which is easily to be understood, to voluntarily participate on MSDS education, but SHMs did the quiz program. Also we found that the SHMs wanted to learn the education program via the expert(37.3%) rather than education resources(33.3%) which were served by government or relevant agency. In contrast, workers wanted the audio-visual education program, which is mainly consisted of accident cases (33.3%), rather than periodical education program(22.1%). Conclusions: This study showed that effectiveness of MSDS education was associated with the program served by company, and the education program for the voluntary participation of the workers should be made practical and attractive.

Based on the course of program development suggested by Dick and Cray (1990), the study followed the planning, development, education and evaluation of a program. Result: The developed CD-Program consists 2 parts each for lower and higher grades of primary school students. The introduction part of the first trial for lower grade students uses quiz to encourage their motivations, the body proceeds with motion pictures and animations to trigger their interests. The introduction part of the second trial for the lower grades consists of remembering the exhibition lecture. The first trial for higher grades of primary school students builds on the contents of the low grades. Its body part, how to determine obesity and calculate ones own obesity, puts ones own weight and height in by the mouse. For the second trial of the higher grades, the body consists of life-style, diet, and regiments. Conclusion: The merits of this CD-Program are that to be possible an interaction between teachers and students.

  • Purpose: The study purpose was to describe critical care nurses' attitudes toward hospice and palliative care and their related factors. Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 175 critical care nurses who worked at a general hospital in Seoul participated via self-report survey. The Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale was used to measure their attitudes, and a palliative care quiz for nursing was used to measure their knowledge about hospice and palliative care. Results: Education level, duration of nursing employment, duration of critical care nursing employment, and knowledge about hospice and palliative care were significantly associated with nurses' attitudes. In the multiple regression analysis, education level, and duration of nursing employment were significant predictors of nurses' attitudes. Conclusion: These findings suggest that education programs to improve nurses' knowledge about hospice and palliative care should be developed. These will help critical care nurses obtain a positive attitude toward hospice and palliative care.
