  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the meaning of incivility experienced by nursing students in relations with nurses during clinical practice. Methods: This is a descriptive qualitative study that included thirty participants using convenience sampling in universities in S, J, Ch, and C provinces. Data saturation was achieved and methodological rigor was established. Qualitative content analysis was used to inductively determine categories. Results: The four categories derived from analysis were 'left alone at clinical field', 'treated as an assistant', 'not respected as a person' and 'ignored future dreams'. Conclusions: Nursing students continue to carry out repetitive, low-risk tasks, for which they are not properly trained due to the lack of practical guidance in clinical practice. During clinical practice, they are not respected as persons by nurses and are negatively influenced by nurse professionals. A solution to this requires organic cooperation and policy preparation at universities and hospital sites to improve practical training of nursing students.

Methods: This secondary analysis study included damage claims rulings filed for clinical negligence from 2014 to 2018 that contained the keyword 'nurse'. It excluded judgments irrelevant to nursing care and in which clinical negligence or causal damages were overruled. A total of 93 cases were analyzed. The characteristics of PSIs were derived through descriptive statistics, and two instances of nursing-related PSIs were examined by qualitative content analysis focusing on root causes. Results: The analysis of PSIs related to nursing suggested that the medical institutions where the PSIs occurred most frequently were hospitals, and the most common types of PSIs were medication, surgery, and treatment/procedure, in that order. In addition, it indicated that nursing-related PSIs occurred most frequently in general wards during the day shift, with the most common related nursing practice being managing potential risk factors. The qualitative analysis showed that careless monitoring and institutional inertia were causes of PSIs. Conclusion: To prevent nursing-related PSIs, nurses need to individually monitor and assess patient conditions. In addition, support should be accompanied by the improvement in the systems in place aimed at preventing the recurrence of nursing-related PSIs at the institutional and national level, such as securing appropriate nursing personnel and improving labor conditions.

  • Objectives: The goals of this study are to exploring critical factors and methods to improve Korean Community Care through the cases of GyeongsangNamdo. Methods: For this study, we performed in-depth interviews with 90 people involved in Community Care services of 6 regions, and the collected data were analyzed. The collected data were analyzed utilizing NVivo12. In the end, we reconfirmed the process through Topic Modeling analysis. Results: We conducted descriptive statistics and qualitative data analysis collected through surveys and in-depth interviews. In the case of qualitative analysis, we extracted principle codes (Need, Lack, Absence), and sorted the contents into sub-categories. The response rate of 'Need to strengthen capabilities' was the highest, 'Need to communicate and share information' was the second, and 'Need for integrated operation and a control tower' was the third. Conclusion: As a result, we find the critical factors to improve Community Care. Based on them, we should conduct follow-up researches to propose concrete methods to apply to diverse regions.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the research trends related to qualitative research on science education, to provide basic data of qualitative research on science education and to select the direction of follow-up research. The subject of the study is the level of Korean Citation Index (KCI-listed, KCI listing candidates), that can be searched by the key phrase, 'qualitative research', 'science education' in Korean language through the RISS service. In this study, the Descriptive Statistical Analysis Method is utilized to discover the number of research articles, classifying them by year and by journal. Also, the Sementic Network Analysis was conducted to the frequency of key words, Centrality Analysis throughout a variety of research articles using krkwic and Ucinet6.0. The results show that first, 138 research papers were published in 14 journals from 2005 to 2017. Second,, the analysis showed the highest frequency of appearance keyword in each article, 'elementary school teacher', 'gifted student', 'science teacher', 'class' were higher than others. third, according to the results of the whole Network Analysis, 'Analysis', 'elementary school', 'class' were analyzed as a highly influential node. And 'Comparison', 'inquiry', 'recognition', 'gifted students' were not close to the center of network. Fourth, keywords that appear in all sections are analysis, gifted students, and elementary school students, and can be analyzed continuously based on studies, lessons or recognition, and characteristics. Based on the results of this study, we explored the past and present of the study subjects related to the study of science education quality and discussed future direction of study.

  • Purpose: This study was to determine the current trend of nursing research as exploring both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and to provide the explicit direction to improve the quality of published papers. Methods: Total of 366 articles published between 2004 and 2006 was reviewed using the criteria of analysis. Results: There was more number of quantitative studies than qualitative studies. More studies were conducted with subjects who had health problems, and studies that targeted women and elderly population have been significantly increased. In quantitative methodology, utilization of experimental and quasi-experimental designs has been increased, however descriptive study was dominant as yet. In qualitative methodology, studies using grounded theory and phenomenology were frequently published. It was noted that theoretical framework and rational for sample size were rarely presented in quantitative study. Philosophical position and the process of preparation for study, which guided the research, were not clearly described in qualitative study. Conclusion: The findings of this review suggest that published studies have been improved and diversified, however, detailed and clear evaluation tool that assesses study process and method should be developed as a way to further improve the quality of published papers.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the eighth grade students' performance of open investigations for two kinds of tasks: the qualitative one which involves the descriptive approach through observation, and the quantitative one which involves the quantitative data processing through control of variables. Researcher's observation, interview data as well as students' investigation reports, self-evaluations were analysed. The difficulties of qualitative open investigation lie in detecting and dealing with unexpected observations, of which the acceptance and interpretation were influenced by preconceptions. On the other hand, managing several variables, making reliable and valid measures, and quantitative data processing constituted main difficulties of quantitative open investigation. Some students could recognize the deficiencies of their methods and findings in qualitative one, but few in quantitative one. These results suggest the teaching point for each task of open investigations.
