  • Quadratic residue codes are cyclic codes of prime length n defined over a finite field ${\mathbb{F}}_{p^e}$, where $p^e$ is a quadratic residue mod n. They comprise a very important family of codes. In this article we introduce the generalization of quadratic residue codes defined over Galois rings using the Galois theory.

  • In this paper, we introduce duadic codes over finite local rings and concentrate on quadratic residue codes. We study their properties and give the comprehensive method for the computing the unique idempotent generator of quadratic residue codes.

  • A subset of n tuples of elements of ${\mathbb{Z}}_9$ is said to be a code over ${\mathbb{Z}}_9$ if it is a ${\mathbb{Z}}_9$-module. In this paper we consider an special family of cyclic codes over ${\mathbb{Z}}_9$, namely quadratic residue codes. We define these codes in term of their idempotent generators and show that these codes also have many good properties which are analogous in many respects to properties of quadratic residue codes over finite fields.

  • One of the most interesting classes of algebraic codes is the class of quadratic residue (QR) codes over a finite field. A natural construction doubling the lengths of QR codes seems to be the double circulant constructions based on quadratic residues given by Karlin, Pless, Gaborit, et. al. In this paper we define a class of triple circulant linear codes based on quadratic residues. We construct many new optimal codes or codes with the highest known parameters using this construction. In particular, we find the first example of a ternary [58, 20, 20] code, which improves the previously known highest minimum distance of any ternary [58, 20] codes.

  • Let F be a finite field of prime power order q(odd) and the multiplicative order of q modulo $2^{n}\;(n>1)\;be\; {\phi}(2^{n})/2$. If n > 3, then q is odd number(prime or prime power) of the form $8m{\pm}3$. If q = 8m - 3, then the ring $R_{2^n} = F[x]/ < x^{2^n}-1 >$ has 2n primitive idempotents. The explicit expressions for these primitive idempotents are obtained and the minimal QR cyclic codes of length $2^{n}$ generated by these idempotents are completely described. If q = 8m + 3 then the expressions for the 2n - 1 primitive idempotents of $R_{2^n}$ are obtained. The generating polynomials and the upper bounds of the minimum distance of minimal QR cyclic codes generated by these 2n-1 idempotents are also obtained. The case n = 2,3 is dealt separately.

  • In this paper, we present a new construction for self-dual codes that uses the concept of double bordered construction, group rings, and reverse circulant matrices. Using groups of orders 2, 3, 4, and 5, and by applying the construction over the binary field and the ring F2 + uF2, we obtain extremal binary self-dual codes of various lengths: 12, 16, 20, 24, 32, 40, and 48. In particular, we show the significance of this new construction by constructing the unique Extended Binary Golay Code [24, 12, 8] and the unique Extended Quadratic Residue [48, 24, 12] Type II linear block code. Moreover, we strengthen the existing relationship between units and non-units with the self-dual codes presented in [10] by limiting the conditions given in the corollary. Additionally, we establish a relationship between idempotent and self-dual codes, which is done for the first time in the literature.
