  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the scope of color perception for Japan standard color. In addition to, we compared the difference in the color perception between the Korean and the Japanese undergraduates. 140 male and 119 female Japanese undergraduates were selected as the random sample. Color perception was made with the naked eyes. Minolta Chroma Metre CR 300 was used for physical measurement of the color. The results were as follows, 1) Japanese students' perceived color perception was classified into four large groups: simple group includes Red, Yellow, Blue, White, Gray and Black, X(-axis)group includes Green, Red Purple, Y(-axis)group includes Green, complex group includes Blue Green, Purple, Purple Blue, Red Purple. 2) There is difference between Korean color perception and Japanese; for Yellow Red, Blue, Blue Green, Red Purple. 3) There is little difference between the values of standard color and mean percept color for Yellow while big difference for Blue. And as for as country was concerned, Korean is more accurate than Japanese in color perception.

  • Soybean sprouts have been a considered a nutrient-rich vegetable for hundreds of years. To evaluate the seedlot quality of soybean sprouts grown, and to evaluate a method for reducing the presence of improper seeds in soybean seedlots, microbes associated with soybean sprout rot were isolated from samples collected. Morphological characteristics and gas chromatography profiles of the cultured fungal and bacterial strains were identified. Eight types of improper seeds were identified: purple stain(Ps), black rot(Br), seed coat black spot(Cb), wrinkled seed(Ws), brown hilum(Bh), seed coat fracture(Cf), unripe seed(Us), and brown seed coat(Bc). The improper seeds were also dipped into 15%, 20%, and 25% NaCl solutions, as well as a saturated solution of NaCl, for 1min. As the NaCl concentration increased, the number of floating improper seeds increased as well. The highest floating rates were observed for the Cf seeds.

  • The objective of this study is to examine the type and characteristics of hat, and also to analyze the formative characteristics of hats shown in $Pr{\hat{e}}t-{\grave{a}}$-porter Collection. The literature review focused on the relevant technical books and preceding researches while the case study targeted 1,561 photos of hats shown in the 'Donga TV Collection'. The research range was from the S/S season of 2012 to the F/W season of 2015/16. The results of this study are as follows. 1. A hat is composed of crown and brim. In the results of classifying hats based on it, there were 572 crown-type hats, 533 hat-type, 219 cap-type, 156 irregular-type, and 81 brim-type in the order. 2. For the crown-type hats, they were mainly like cylindrical-type, bell-type, dome-type, and circle-type, using colors like black, beige, brown, red, mustard, and grey, and materials like wool, fur, velvet, straw, and metal while they were decorated with bead or lace. 3. For the hat-type hats, they were mainly like bell-type, ladder-type, and hemisphere-type, using colors like peach, white, gold, brown, and khaki, and materials like silk, cotton, straw, and wool while they were decorated with feather and ribbon. 4. For the cap-type hats, they were mainly like hemisphere-type, using colors like white, black, khaki, mustard, and purple, and materials like fur, leather, and wool while they were decorated with wappen and chain. 5. For the irregular-type hats, they were mainly like sandglass-type, box-type, animal-type, trumpet-type, and bell-type, using colors like purple, orange, pink, yellow, and sky-blue, and materials like metal, feather, mesh, plastic, straw, and linen while they were decorated with ribbon, net, bell, and flower. 6. For the brim-type visor, they were mainly like square-type, using colors like transparent, yellow, and black, and materials like plastic, cotton, leather, and metal.

  • Cowpea(Vigna unguiculata L. Walp) has excellent physical properties and texture of starch, so it is mainly used in various ways for songpyeon sediment, rice-cake paste, and porridge. To utilize it as various processed products such as songpyeon sediment and cowpea milk, 'Okhyun', which has green cotyledons and black seed coats and can be harvested by combine was developed. A cowpea variety 'Okhyun' was improved from the cross between IT145379 and IT208081 at the JARES in 2022. 'Okhyun' has an erect plant with an intermediate plant habit, a light purple-colored corolla, and heart-shaped leaflets. 'Okhyun' has green cotyledons and black seed coats, and has straight black brown pods when mature. The stem length of 'Okhyun' is 47cm, and the weight of 100-seed weight was 12.9g, which was lower than the control variety 'Okdang'(16.6g). 'Okhyun' contains 25.8mg/100g of anthocyanin, 279mg/100g of total polyphenols, and 335mg/100g of total flavonoids, respectively. The average yield of 'Okhyun' was 1.97ton per hectare, 11% higher than that of the control cultivar 'Okdang'. 'Okhyun'' does not require the installation of an espalier-net net, so it is possible to harvest with a combine. In addition, 'Okhyun' variety with green cotyledons and a black seed coat is expected to contribute to developing regional specialties and various processed products.

  • Metabolic syndrome, including obesity, glucose intolerance and elevated blood pressure, is related to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Previous studies have reported the anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic effects of purple corn extract. We investigated the efficacy of purple corn extract (PC) against high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and glucose intolerance, and examined the underlying mechanisms by analyzing expression of proteins and genes involved in glucose regulation and macrophage infiltration. C57BL/6 mice were fed with normal chow diet (ND), or HFD treated with distilled water (DW, control) or PC, for 10 weeks. Although body weights were similar in the HFD-fed groups, we observed a decrease in the liver and epididymal adipose tissue (EAT) weights, and enhanced glucose tolerance test (GTT) results in the PC group, as compared with DW group. Liver showed increased Akt phosphorylation in the PC-treated mice; however, no changes were observed in the EAT, for all groups. In PC-treated mice, decreased macrophage infiltration was seen in the EAT, with a reduced expression of macrophage marker genes. Finally, proinflammatory cytokine gene expressions were decreased by PC in the EAT, and a modest trend for downregulation was observed in the liver. Hence, we conclude that PC may decrease glucose intolerance by increasing the phosphorylation of Akt and reducing the macrophage infiltration into the EAT.

  • The improvement of superior black soybeans could be accomplished through maintenance and use of black soybean collections. This experiment was carried out to select pure-line from the domestic black soybean genotypes, and survey some agronomic characteristics of the collections. Nine hundred and sixty five lines of black soybeans were collected in 197 locations on spring, 1991. Higher distribution was present in broad leaves, purple flower color and tawny pubescence color which were approximate to be 97, 90 and 98%, respectively. In pod color of black soybean collections, 60% was brown and 27% was light brown and 10% was dark brown. The 61 to 70 days were required for flowering in 61 % of the collections. Growing days of 51 % of black soybean collections ranged 121 to 130, and those of 37 % were over 131 days.

  • The tube anemone, Cerianthus filiformis Carlgren, was collected from nine localities in the Yellow Sea and the Korea Strait (the South Sea). Populations at different localities showed color variations in tentacles from pale brown to violet. This species is redescribed here because it shows the color variation and the association with the phoronid, Phoronis australis, which was newly recorded from Korean waters. The phoronid has black to purple tentacles shaded with the same color as the cerianthid's tube for mimicking.
