  • In this paper, a problem of limited sampling time that occurs essentially in digital data acquisition system is discussed. Low sampling frequency and a lot of processed data in micro-controller interferes normal operation of the controller from acquiring information in some case. To settle this problem, we design the sub-system which consists of a new simple micro-controller. which is managed the particular sensor making the trouble to main-controller system.

The Fabrication of Strip Halo Antenna and the Measurement of Its Characteristics in 800 MHz Band (800 MHz대 스트립 할로 안테나의 설계 및 특성 고찰)

  • In this paper, Strip Halo Antenna used for the proximity sensor in 800 MHz band was fabricated by using a dielectric board with the relative dielectric constant of 6.15. Dimensions of the strip halo antenna were optimized by the theoretical simulation and many experiments. The impedance of the strip halo antenna mounted on the proximity sensor with the finite circular groud plane was measured as 16.5 + j1.1[$\Omega$]. The matching characteristic of the strip halo antenna was greatly improved by attaching the matching section designed through experiments to the rear side of dielectric board. The impedance of the strip halo antenna with the matching section was measured as 43.79-j0.04[$\Omega$], and the 3 dB beam width of its radiation pattern was measured about $90^{\circ}$.

  • Polishing a die that has free-form surfaces is a time-consuming and tedious job, and requires a considerable amount of high-precision skill. Some workers tend to gradually avoid the polishing work because of the poor environment caused by dust and noise. In order to reduce the polishing time and cope with the shortage of skilled workers, a user-friendly automatic polishing system was developed in this research. The polishing system with five degrees of freedom is able to keep the polishing tool normal to the die surface. The polishing system is controlled by a PC-NC controller. To easily operate the developed polishing robot system, this study developed an integrated program in the Windows environment. This program consists of four modules: the polishing module, the graphic simulator, the polishing data generation module, and the teaching module. Also, the automatic teaching system was developed to easily obtain teaching data and it consists of a three dimensional joystick and a proximity sensor. The joystick is used to simultaneously drive the polishing system to an arbitrary orientation and the proximity sensor is used to obtain teaching points precisely. Also, to evaluate the stability of the driving program and the teaching system, polishing experiments of a die of saddle shape were carried out.

  • This study analyzed the development status and applications of collision avoidance systems for mine safety management. The definitions of collision avoidance system used in Australia and USA were compared. Sensing technologies utilized in the collision avoidance systems were reviewed. In addition, several collision avoidance systems developed in oversea mining company, such as $MineAlert^{TM}$ Collision Awareness System, Cat $MineStar^{TM}$, and Intelligent Proximity Detection, were reviewed. In the domestic mining industry, no collision avoidance system was used. However, similar systems were utilized in the construction and railroad industry. Collision avoidance system can prevent unexpected collision accident and thus improve worker's safety in mine. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and apply sensors and system appropriate for the domestic mining environment via review of overseas collision avoidance system.

  • In this paper, microstrip antenna to enhance the isolation between transmitting port and receiving port under the proximity objects is proposed, and applied to the Doppler radar sensor working at 5.8GHz ISM band which detects vital signals of a human body. Two 3dB quadrature hybrids are placed around radiation patch to form a balanced structure between transmitting port and receiving port, such that it consistently provides enhanced Tx/Rx isolation and excellent return loss over nearby objects. It is theoretically analyzed and simulated to verify the validity of the proposed application. The fabricated antenna that is 2mm away from the human body, has more than 16 dB return loss and at least 30dB isolation over ISM frequency band of 5.8GHz.

  • This paper describes the development of a circularly polarized microstrip antenna, as a part of the Circularly Polarized Synthetic Aperture Radar (CP-SAR) sensor which is currently under developed at the Microwave Remote Sensing Laboratory (MRSL) in Chiba University. CP-SAR is a new type of sensor developed for the purpose of remote sensing. With this sensor, lower-noise data/image will be obtained due to the absence of depolarization problems from propagation encounter in linearly polarized synthetic aperture radar. As well the data/images obtained will be investigated as the Axial Ratio Image (ARI), which is a new data that hopefully will reveal unique various backscattering characteristics. The sensor will be mounted on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which will be aimed for fundamental research and applications. The microstrip antenna works in the frequency of 1.27 GHz (L-Band). The microstrip antenna utilized the proximity-coupled method of feeding. Initially, the optimization process of the single patch antenna design involving modifying the microstrip line feed to yield a high gain (above 5 dBi) and low return loss (below -10 dB). A minimum of 10 MHz bandwidth is targeted at below 3 dB of Axial Ratio for the circularly polarized antenna. A planar array from the single patch is formed next. Consideration for the array design is the beam radiation pattern in the azimuth and elevation plane which is specified based on the electrical and mechanical constraints of the UAV CP-SAR system. This research will contribute in the field of radar for remote sensing technology. The potential application is for landcover, disaster monitoring, snow cover, and oceanography mapping.

  • The importance of coatings has been increasing for different purposes such as prevention of static electricity of auto parts or products, improvement of abrasion and corrosion resistance, and enhancement of esthetics. As a method for measuring the thickness of a coating film, a contact method with probe is commonly used. However, it is problematic that accuracy of the sensor is degraded due to sensor output distortion or load phenomenon, which is caused by a change in magnetic permeability of the core. In this study, we propose a method to reduce the measurement error of the coating film by applying the optimized circuit design and the thickness measurement algorithm to the problems caused by the nonlinear characteristics. The tests result which have been taken with different thickness coating samples show that the measurement accuracy is within ${\pm}2%$.

  • Recently, the technologies related to autonomous drive has studying the goal for safe operation and prevent accidents of vehicles. There is radar and camera technologies has used to detect obstacles in these autonomous vehicle research. Now a day, the method for using LiDAR sensor has considering to detect nearby objects and accurately measure the separation distance in the autonomous navigation. It is calculates the distance by recognizing the time differences between the reflected beams and it allows precise distance measurements. But it also has the disadvantage that the recognition rate of object in the atmospheric environment can be reduced. In this paper, point cloud data by triangular functions and Line Regression model are used to implement measurement algorithm, that has improved detecting objects in real time and reduce the error of measuring separation distances based on improved reliability of raw data from LiDAR sensor. It has verified that the range of object detection errors can be improved by using the Python imaging library.

  • This paper proposes the Focused beamforming to estimate the location of target residing near to the observation platform in the underwater environment. The Focused beamforming technique provides the location of target by the coherent summation of a series of incident spherical waveforms considering distinct propagation delay times at the sensor array. But due to the movement of the observation platform and the variation of the underwater environment, the shape of the sensor array is no longer to be linear but it becomes distorted as the platform moves. Thus the Focused beamforming should be peformed regarding to the geometric shape variation at each time. To estimate the target location, the artificial image plane comprised of cells is constructed, and the delays are calculated from each cell where the target could be proximity to sensors for the coherent summation. After the coherent combining, the beam pattern can be obtained through the Focused beamforming on the image plane. Futhermore to compensate the variation of the shape of the sensor array, the paper utilizes the Nth-order polynomial approximation to estimate the shape of the sensor array obeying the water pulley modeling. Simulation results show the performance of the Focused beamforming for different frequency bands of the radiated signal.

  • In this paper, we present a method for estimating the ratio of CPA distance to velocity of underwater target using target bearing information in CPA situation. This ratio can be estimated by previous research which is Envelope CPA using proximity sensor but it has low performance if the target is close to receiver sensor or bigger interference caused by multi-path effects. Therefore we propose a Bearing CPA technique using a target bearing information as a way to overcome.
