에어로졸은 자연활동으로 인하여 발생하는 것과 인위적인 산업 활동으로 인하여 발생하는 것 두 가지로 나누어진다. 황사는 바람에 의해 토양에서 대기 중으로 배출되어지는 대표적인 자연 발생적인 에어로졸이라고 할 수 있는데, 중국의 사막지역 및 몽고 내륙지역 등에서 발생한다고 알려져 있으며, 발생원인은 건조지대를 지나는 저기압의 후면에서 강한 상승기류에 의해서 토양 입자들이 대기 중으로 비산되며, 40∼50m/s의 제트기류를 타고 한반도, 일본, 알루샨 열토와 하와이까지 이동한다고 알려져 있다(Arao et al., 1986;Iwasaka, 1988). Smart structural system is defined as structural system with a certain-level of autonomy relying on the embedded functions of sensors, actuators and processors, that can automatically adjust structural characteristics, in response to the change in external disturbance and environments, toward structural safety and serviceability as well as the extension of structural service life. In this study, carbon and glass hybrid fiber materials were investigated fundamentally for the applicability of self diagnosis in smart concrete structural system as embedded functions of sensors.

Korea has recently experienced a large change in civil architecture and urban environment. However most of civil architectures and urbanization have been accomplished without considering economic efficiency and impact. This study focuses primarily on an analysis on the relationship between architecture and economic efficiency through the foreign and domestic case studies. Secondly, it is going to elucidate the economic properties on Korean architecture recently established. With perspectives of the analysis, we need to consider the following factors in the production of architecture; labor intensive industry, seasonal industry, strong and domestic demand.

We report on a ridge waveguide laser diode with laterally tapered waveguides fabricated in a single growing step using a double patterning method. In this structure, nearly constant output power is obtained with the change of the lower tapered waveguide width, and the facet power ratio of 1.4 to 1.5 is observed over the current range. The asymmetric facet power property is also investigated.

The relation between the allowed range of variation of polarization controller wave-plates angles and the respective polarization scattering properties is investigated. It is demonstrated that a nearly uniform polarization scattering over the Poincare sphere is obtained using a concatenation of three polarization controllers with angles randomly changed between $-{\pi}$/4 and ${\pi}$/4. It is also shown that an improvement of the scattering properties is obtained if the configuration angles are allowed to change between $-{\pi}$/2 and ${\pi}$/2.

For giving self-diagnosing capability, a method based on monitoring the changes in the electrical resistance of carbon materials in strengthened concrete has been tested. Then after examining change in the value of electrical resistance of carbon materials used as a rib of CFGFRP or a sheet of carbon fiber before and after the occurrence of cracks and fracture in hybrid FRP or carbon fiber sheet strengthened concrete at each flexural weight-stage, the correlations of each factors were analyzed.

We have studied the optical properties of the biaxial film such as fast axis, retardance and the change of polarization state between crossed polarizer using dual rotating retarder polarimeter. We have developed a novel simulation model, which could explain well the experimental results, and found that it could be used to optimize the compensation film in LCD for improving wide-viewing property.

In-plane switching characteristics of PI rubbed ITO sandwich cell with low molecule FLC (ferroelectric liquid crystal) surface was investigated. FLC on the surface is governed by the applying frequency and surface condition. By controlling the Ps (spontaneous polarization) direction of dual FLC surfaces, switching characteristics are improved without change of cell structure.

There are carbonatiion, salt attack, freezing & thawing and alkali-aggregate reactions as the cautions of durability lowering of concret structure. Generally, these cautions complicatedly lower the durability of structure and among these cautions the most serious problem is salt attack and carbonation. This study is intending to get the carbonation phenominon, that among cement calcium hydroxides change into calcium carbonate by responding to carbon mitrogen in the air.

In case of applying offshore standard of some class societies, the required impact test temperature is lower than that of class rule to be applied for general commercial ship. This study is performed to consider whether the impact value to be required at offshore standard of BV can be obtained or not under SAW method, 1 run both side welding, to be mainly used for butt joint of plates at domestic ship builder.
