  • The health education in hospitals has many problems including lack of the division specialized in health education, lack of implementation system of health education, insufficient professional health education and insufficient health education materials. Despite these restraints, hospitals should reinforce health education program as a part of active response centered on disease prevention and health promotion targeting healthy people who have potential health risk before the onset of disease, rather than passive approach emphasizing the treatment. Accordingly, health education team should be organized in a hospital, in which health educators can provide the following education services. First of all, hospitals themselves should provide active community services in collaboration with community organizations. In addition, multi-disciplinary approach in cooperation with schools, work places should be reinforced to establish the comprehensive health education system. The establishment of medical service referral system with other medical institutions and the linkage system for medical information exchange are also needed. The utilization of education materials obtained through these system should be open to community residents as well as patients. Finally, medical staff working in hospitals should try to provide the high-quality health education that is as high as the level of medical services. The high-quality health education is possible when its level is based on one required by community residents and the county rather than the international or arbitrary standard.

  • Recently, there have been increasing studies on the application of digital technology, which has its focus of the irregular building. However, most of these studies have not clarified the objective of the technology and the effectiveness of professional manpower on its performance. This study analyzes actual used technology and the role of specialty contractor. It presents a framework to quantify the performance of the specialty contractor. For these purposes, this paper presents a proposed method to evaluate the activities of specialty contractors using a queueing model. As an attempt to verify the model, an actual irregular building project, in which digital fabrication is applied, is investigated during the construction phase. In order to collect the digital fabrication data, digital fabrication reports and specialty contractor's work log of project are reviewed. In addition, Digital Fabrication input personnel, productivity data are collected through interviews with experts involving in the case project. Analysis of specialty contractor's performance in digital fabrication reveals that the wait status of project participants varies probabilistically depending on the digital technology application level. The results of this study are expected to contribute toward the improvement of the production level in the construction industry.

  • Objective : To explore and describe coordinators' experiences in collaborative practices between the traditional Korean medicine doctors and the western medicine doctors. Methods : Five coordinators who agreed and completed the informed consent to take part in this qualitative study were interviewed thoroughly and tape-recorded. Transcribed data were analysed thematically with ground theory. Results : Most participants started their coordinating work without sufficient knowledge and systemic support. They, however, could find their identity as coordinators for collaborative practices through preparing manuals and protocols, providing comprehensive patients care, and experiencing the partnership with doctors. To coordinate Korean medicine and western medicine practices efficiently, participants have tried to enhance their professional knowledge and skills, and establish favorable networks. On the other hand, they were in dilemmas of being a multi-player and imbalance of responsibilities and powers in their jobs. Conclusions : It is recommended to clarify job description of coordinator for collaborative practices, develop training programme, and provide the institutional support for wider recognition of coordinator. Findings from this study should be considered in both Korean medicine-western medicine collaborative research and practice.

  • A virtual team consists of various members with a range of professional skills. An IT virtual team can confer such advantages as improving creativity and solving problems in e-business. However, virtual teams are less cohesive than off-line based teams, at least partly because they do not meet face-to-face to solve problems. If the cohesion of the members in a team is weak, overall performance can decrease. Therefore, this study seeks to understand the specific types of leadership needed to increase the cohesiveness of the members in a virtual team. Leadership is the most important factor for the successful operation of a virtual team. Leaders engage members with goals, and motivate them by creating positive relationships. This study describes the idealized influence of transformational leadership in which a leader directly engages members in a goal, and the role of participative goal setting in which members set their own goals. In addition, this research demonstrates the benefits of a positive attitude of a leader towards their team members and the influence of leader-member exchanges. If the cohesion of virtual teams is improved through specific leadership, the team members will be more committed to their teams and work, and the team's performance will improve. Furthermore, the successful operation of virtual teams will provide an opportunity for companies in e-business to gain a competitive advantage in the contemporary environment, where creativity is important.
