우드펠릿의 스팀가스화 특성 (Steam Gasification Characteristics of Wood Pellet)

  • 근래의 무분별한 화석연료의 사용은 에너지자원의 고갈과 환경오염의 문제를 야기하여 이의 해결을 위한 청정신에너지에 대한 연구가 전 세계적으로 집중되고 있다. 이 중 바이오매스는 화석연료보다 비교적 높은 H/C비를 갖기 때문에 신에너지인 수소 또는 Syngas를 생산하기 위한 가스화 특성이 우수한 특징을 가지고 있으며, 구성성분 내 중금속, 타르 질소를 거의 함유하지 않는 점에서 환경오염 저감과 동시에 대체 신에너지로써 각광을 받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 목질계 바이오매스인 Wood pellet에 대하여 고정층 반응기를 이용하여 질소 분위기하에서 온도 및 Steam/Biomass Ratio(SBR)조건 변화에 따른 가스화 특성으로 고찰하는데 그 목적을 둔다. 온도의 영향에 대하여, 높은 온도 범위에서 수소 수율이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. SBR에 대한 영향으로서, 상대적 저온 조건에서는 SBR이 1 이상인 조건에서는 수소 수율이 거의 일정한 경향을 보였고, $900^{\circ}C$의 고온에서는 SBR 증가에 따라 증가하는 결과를 얻었다. 또한 $H_2$/CO ratio에 비하여 $H_2/CH_4$ ratio의 변화가 더 큰 결과로부터, 본 실험 조건에서의 반응은 Steam reforming이 Water gas shift reaction 보다 더욱 지배적임을 확인하였다. 최적의 $H_2$ 수율 생산 조건은 열분해의 경우 $800^{\circ}C$이며, 저온 스팀가스화의 경우에는 SBR=1, $900^{\circ}C$의 고온인 경우에는 SBR=3 이었으며, 최대 수소 수율은 $900^{\circ}C$, SBR=3의 조건에서 38.5 vol.%(56.01 L/min kg) 이었다.

Effects of Media on the Callogenensis and Cell Mass Production in Cell Cultures of Panax vietnamensis

  • This study was initiated to investigate the impacts of media types and other components on the callogenensis and cell mass production of Panax vietnamensis in the first step of the cell biomass procedure. Four media were checked: Murashige-Skoog (MS), White, Gamborg and Nitch-AII. All the four media were shown potential media for Panax vietnamensis callogenensis and cell mass production, in which the MS medium showed the best results: the successful callogenensis ratio and cell mass formation were 30% and 62,93 ${\pm}$ 3,63 mg (DW) respectively, the Nitch medium showed the lowest results: the successful callogenensis ratio and cell mass formation were 15% and 27,10 ${\pm}$ 2,24 mg (DW) respectively. The results showed that the MS medium is the most suitable medium for Panax vietnamensis callogenensis and cell mass production.

넓은잎천남성 (Arisaema robustum) 개체군의 동태 (Population Dynamics of Arisaema robustum)

  • Arisaema robustum, which has the ability to change sex, was studied in a temperate broadleaf forest of Sanseong-ri, Joongbu-myeon, Gwangju-gun, Kyonggi Province, Korea. \ulcornerThe study, carried out from 1993 to 1997, focused on population dynamics energy budget among organs, size distribution, mortality, the relationships between sex and size, seed production and germination rate. In terms of energy budget among the organs, the ratio of aboveground to belowground biomass was 36.6 : 63.4 in non-female plants, and 81.4 : 18.6 in female plants. Also, in female plants, the ration of leaf to sexual organ biomass was 39.5 : 41.9. Therefore, the belowground ratio of female plants was lower than that of non-female plants. Plants were classified into 8 levels relative to the amount of leaf area by $100cm^2$. The rates of the smallest and the largest classes were 49% and 1%, respectively, and population distribution by size was relatively stable. The mortality averaged 13.1% per year and decreased in inverse proportion to leaf size (6.6% in the smallest and 0.0% in the largest size classes). Leaf areas were $64.1{\pm}48.5cm^2$ in non-flowering plants, $232.1{\pm}123.9cm^2$ in males and $444.8{\pm}153.9cm^2$ in females. The increase rates of leaf area per year varied from 1.9% in plants changing from female tomale, to 152.4% in plants changing from non-flowering to female. But plants which remained female for 2 years showed a decrease of 34.7%. >From this result, it is thought that the female plants invest more energy to reproduction than to vegetative organs. The correlation coefficient (CC) value between plant size and the number of seeds produced (0.55) was larger than the CC value between plant size and total seed weight (0.73). That is, the larger the plant size, the heavier the seed produced. The germination rate increased along with seed weight, and it was 95% in plants which were over 60mg fresh weight/seed.

Accumulated organic matter, litterfall production, and decomposition tell us the status of litter dynamics in forests

  • Litterfall dynamics in forests are assessed by estimating biomass production and decomposition. However, there have been few studies on how litter dynamics impact the health and management of ecosystems. Here, a new approach to measure and assess ecosystem function is presented based on conventional methods using littertraps, litterbags, and the mass on the forest floor. To assess the status of litter dynamics, the decay rate (k) was estimated from a litterbag experiment, and removal rates ($k_i$) were determined from mass balance on the forest floor at 21 sites on three mountains in South Korea. The $k_3$ (organic mass ratio of $O_i$ and $O_e+O_a$ + A horizons in November) values in an equilibrium state in South Korea were within the range of $k{\pm}0.174$ when considering the annual variation of litterfall production. This study also suggests that sampling sites for these types of studies should be in the middle, not at the ends, of steady slopes on the forest floor.

한국산(韓國産) 4개(個) 지역형(地域型) 소나무 천연림(天然林)의 물질생산(物質生産)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Biomass and Net Production of Pinus densiflora Natural Forests of Four Local Forms in Korea)

  • 한국산(韓國産) 4개(個) 지역형(地域型) 소나무천연림(天然林)의 물질생산량(物質生産量) 및 물질생산구조(物質生産構造)를 파악하기 위하여 지역형별(地域型別) 전형적인 수형을 보이는 30~40년생(年生) 4개(個) 임분(林分)을 대상으로 현존량(現存量), 순생산량(純生産量), 생산능률(生産能率)을 조사비교한 결과 임분(林分) 전체의 현존량(現存量)은 안강형 29.87t/ha, 중남부평지형 110.89t/ha, 중남부고지형 133.53t/ha, 금강형 205.42t/ha으로써 큰 차이를 보였다. 부위별(部位別) 현존량(現存量) 구성비(構成比)는 안강형에서 금강형으로 갈수록 줄기의 목질부(木質部) 구성비(構成比)는 증가하는 반면(反面), 수피(樹皮), 생지(生枝), 잎, 뿌리의 구성비(構成比)는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 임분(林分) 전체의 순생산량(純生産量)은 안강형 3.716t/ha/yr., 중남부평지형 10.796t/ha/yr., 중남부고지형 13.097t/ha/yr., 금강형 16.500 t/ha/yr.의 순으로 증가하였다. 부위별(部位別) 순생산량(純生産量) 구성비(構成比)는 안강형에서 금강형으로 감에 따라 줄기의 목질부(木質部), 생지(生枝)의 구성비(構成比)는 증가하는 반면, 잎의 구성비(構成比)는 감소하였다. 생지(生枝)의 경우 현존량(現存量) 구성비(構成比)와 상반(相反)된 경향을 보이는 것은 금강형으로 갈수록 자연락지율(自然落枝率)이 높기 때문인 것으로 추정(推定)되었다. 생산능률(生産能率)에 있어서 순동화율(純同化率)은 안간형, 중남부평지형, 중남부고지형, 금강형에서 각각(各各) 1.406, 1.920, 1.487, 1.677이었으며, 잎의 줄기 생산능률(生産能率)은 각각(各各) 0.239, 0.714, 0.572, 0.771이었다. 중남부평지형 조사시기(調査時期)의 차이를 고려할 때 순동화율(純同化率)과 줄기 생산능률(生産能率)은 안강형에서 금강형으로 감에 따라 증가하는 경향을 보이는 것으로 추정(推定)되었다.

Light Tar Decomposition of Product Pyrolysis Gas from Sewage Sludge in a Gliding Arc Plasma Reformer

  • Pyrolysis/gasification technology utilizes an energy conversion technique from various waste resources, such as biomass, solid waste, sewage sludge, and etc. to generating a syngas (synthesis gas). However, one of the major problems for the pyrolysis gasification is the presence of tar in the product gas. The tar produced might cause damages and operating problems on the facility. In this study, a gliding arc plasma reformer was developed to solve the previously acknowledged issues. An experiment was conducted using surrogate benzene and naphthalene, which are generated during the pyrolysis and/or gasification, as the representative tar substance. To identify the characteristics of the influential parameters of tar decomposition, tests were performed on the steam feed amount (steam/carbon ratio), input discharge power (specific energy input, SEI), total feed gas amount and the input tar concentration. In benzene, the optimal operating conditions of the gliding arc plasma 2 in steam to carbon (S/C) ratio, 0.98 $kWh/m^3$ in SEI, 14 L/min in total gas feed rate and 3.6% in benzene concentration. In naphthalene, 2.5 in S/C ratio, 1 $kWh/m^3$ in SEI, 18.4 L/min in total gas feed rate and 1% in naphthalene concentration. The benzene decomposition efficiency was 95%, and the energy efficiency was 120 g/kWh. The naphthalene decomposition efficiency was 79%, and the energy yield was 68 g/kWh.

Effects of culture conditions on the adenosine production in submerged culture of Paecilomyces tenuipes

  • We studied the effects of initial pH, different nitrogen sources, and cultivation methods (shake flask and static culture) on biomass production, exopolysaccharides (EPS), and adenosine by Paecilomyces tenuipes. Relatively low pH levels were optimal for mycelial growth and EPS production. Yeast extract was the most effective organic nitrogen source for EPS production, whereas soybean extract was the best for adenosine production. A high C/N ratio was beneficial for adenosine production; however, excessively high C/N ratios reduced adenosine production. Static fermentation significantly increased adenosine production. A Box-Behnken design was used to optimize adenosine production; the optimal conditions for adenosine production by P. tenuipes were pH 7.0, soybean concentration of 3%, and a static culture period of 20 days, with the maximum adenosine production of 141.10 mg/L (predicted value: 128.05 mg/L).

Production Biodiesel via In-situ Transesterification from Chlorella sp. using Microwave with Base Catalyst

  • In-situ transesterification of microalgae lipids using microwave irradiation has potential to simplify and accelerate biodiesel production, as it minimizes production cost and reaction time by direct transesterification of microalgae into biodiesel with microwave as a heating source. This study was conducted to research the effect of microwave irradiation with in-situ transesterification of microalgae under base catalyst condition. The process variables (reaction time, solvent ratio, microwave power) were studied using 2% of catalyst concentration. The maximum yield of FAME was obtained at about 32.18% at the reaction time of 30 min with biomass-methanol ratio 1:12 (w/v) and microwave power of 450 W. The GC MS analysis obtained that the main component of FAME from microalgal oils (or lipids) was palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid. The results show that microwaves can be used as a heating source to synthesize biodiesel from microalgae in terms of major components resulting.

Chemical Composition, Herbage Yield and Nutritive Value of Panicum antidotale and Pennisetum orientale for Nili Buffaloes at Different Clipping Intervals

  • This study was carried out to establish clipping interval of Pennisetum orientale (PO) and Panicum antidotale (PA) to get maximum biomass production with optimal nutritional value for Nili buffaloes. Two clipping intervals i.e. $CI_1$, and $CI_2$ (clipped after every one and two months, respectively) were studied for both grasses. The data on various parameters were compared with PO and PA each clipped at 4 months of age (control). Leaf to stem ratio in both PO and PA declined with increasing clipping interval. Concentration of dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) increased (p<0.05) whereas crude protein contents decreased with increasing clipping interval in both grasses. Crude protein and dry herbage yields in PO and PA increased (p<0.05) with increasing clipping interval. The DM and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) digestibilities of PO and PA in ruminally cannulated buffalo bulls decreased (p<0.05) due to more lignification with increasing clipping interval. Ruminal extent of digestion, rate of disappearance of DM and neutral detergent fiber of PO and PA decreased in buffaloes while ruminal lag time of these nutrients increased significantly (p<0.05) with increasing clipping interval. The results from the study imply that two month clipping interval for both PO and PA grasses favored higher biomass with greater nutritional value for Nili buffaloes and sustained grass vigor.

근해 유자망에 의해 어획되는 참조기자원의 관리를 위한 가입당 산란자원량 모델의 비교분석 (Coastal Water Fisheries Resources Research Division, National Institute of Fisheries Science)

  • 본 연구에서는 가입에 따른 산란자원량의 변화를 나타내어 가입남획을 방지하는 가입당 산란자원량 모델(spawning biomass per recruit model)을 비교 분석하였다. 가입당 산란자원량 모델은 연령별 선택비를 고려하지 않는 (knife-edged selectivity) 방법과 연령별 선택비를 고려한 (age specific selectivity) 방법의 두 가지가 있으며 연령별 선택비를 고려하지 않는 방법의 경우 가입당 자원량의 식에 성숙비를 곱함으로써 가입당 산란자원량을 나타낼 수 있다. 하지만 기존의 가입당 산란자원량 추정 방법은 어구가입 이후의 모든 연령을 고려하지 않고 어구가입 연령의 성숙비만을 가입당 자원량에 곱함으로써 가입당 산란자원량을 계산하였다. 본 연구에서는 이를 수정하여 어구가입 이후의 모든 연령을 고려한, 즉, 연령별 자원량에 대해 가중평균된 성숙비를 가입당 자원량에 곱하여 가입당 산란자원량을 추정하였다. 한국 근해에서 유자망에 의해 어획되는 참조기자원을 대상으로 기존의 방법과 새로운 방법을 적용하여 추정된 가입당 산란자원량을 비교한 결과 어구가입연령의 성숙비가 1.00 이상에서는 가입당 산란자원량이 차이가 없었다. 그러나 성숙비가 1.00 미만인 연령에서는 어구가입연령이 낮을수록 오차가 크게 나타났으며 기존 방법에 의해 가입당 산란자원량이 과소 추정되었고 어구가입연령별로 가입당 산란자원량의 오차 값을 비교하였을 때, 적게는 4세 때의 0.25 g에서 많게는 1세 때의 130.69 g만큼의 오차가 나타났다. 또한 연령별 선택비를 고려하지 않는 방법과 연령별 선택비를 고려한 방법을 통해 $F_{35%}$를 비교한 결과 연령별 선택비를 고려하지 않는 방법 중 기존 방법에 의한 $F_{35%}$가 0.349/year로 나타났으며 새로운 방법에 의한 $F_{35%}$가 0.302/year로써 새로운 방법에 의한 값이 연령별 선택비를 고려한 방법에 의한 $F_{35%}$인 0.320/year와 유사하게 추정되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서 제시된 새로운 가입당 산란자원량 방법은 대부분의 어구가입연령이 2세 미만으로 낮게 나타나는 한국 연근해 어종을 대상으로 가입당 산란자원량 모델을 통해 자원평가를 실시할 경우 가입당 산란자원량과 그에 따른 적정어획수준의 오차 값을 줄여줄 것이며 기존의 방법을 통한 $F_{35%}$의 값은 과대 추정되어 남획의 위험이 있으므로 새로운 방법을 통해 적정어획수준을 추정하는 것이 옳다고 판단된다.
