  • Considering in view of China's low price and Japan's high technology, the most important point is the quality of product. To increase the comparative power internationally all workingmen have to fulfill the responsibility to maximize the quality, and this is possible practiced under 'Zero Defect' spirit. To reduce the defect ratio to 'Zero' the workingmen have to recognize own fault, all the manufacturing process should be conducted under 'Fool Proof System', If done under this circumstances, then labor force can work comfortably and safely without nervousness and tiresome. The productivity and quality can increase ultimately and even foreign labor, imbecile child, old-aged labor can participate in work, which can reduce shortage of labor source. Therefore, in this study all defects in manufacturing process, it would be recognized the errors and mistakes caused by human.

  • In the steel industry, a steel melting electric arc furnace is used to produce both carbon and alloy steels. Steel scrap which is charged into the furnace is heated by means of electric arc between graphite electrodes and the scrap. In this melting process, current is supplied to the furnace through HCC(high current cable) which connect the furnace and transformer. Four HCCs are assigned to each phase in our system to divide the current. Since a sudden cable breaking result in the shutdown of melting process, an aging detection of HCC is very important for both an improvement of productivity and cost reduction. In this paper, the aging of the HCC is estimated by using the current ratio between four HCCs.

  • This paper presents a set of typical pseudo-accident scenarios related to major equipments in petrochemical plants, which would be useful for performing such quantitative risk analysis techniques as fault tree analysis, event tree analysis, etc. These typical scenarios address what the main hazard of each equipment might be and how the accident might develop from an "initiating event". The proposed set of accident scenarios consists of total thirteen (13) scenarios specific for five (5) major equipments like reactor, distillation column, etc., and has been determined and screened out of one hundred and twenty-five (125) potential accident scenarios that were generated by performing semi-quantitative risk analysis practically for twenty-five (25) petrochemical processes, considering advices from the operation experts. It is assumed that with simple consideration or incorporation of plant-specific conditions only, the proposed accident scenarios could be easily reorganized or adapted for the relevant process with less time and labor by the safety engineers concerned in the petrochemical industries.ndustries.

  • The usage of electric-powered components consisting of several electrical and mechanical parts is continuously increasing in automobiles. Therefore, continuous assessment of the reliability and quality of these electric-powered parts is crucial. In this study, a noise and vibration measurement system for testing and evaluating the different electric-powered parts of automobiles was designed. Further, an FFT analysis was performed on some electric-powered steering assembly test equipment. In the FFT analysis of the noise and vibration signals for each essential fault part, the vibration FFT analysis was significantly compared with the noise analysis. The results showed that the vibration FFT analysis was more effective in determining the reliability and quality of the electric-powered parts.

  • Due to aggressive scaling of device sizes and reduced noise margins, physical defects caused by aging and process variation are continuously increasing. Additionally, with scaling limitation of metal wire and the increasing of communication volume, fault tolerant method in manycore network-on-chip (NoC) has been actively researched. However, there are few researches investigating reliability in NoC with voltage-frequency-island (VFI) regime. In this paper, we propose a table-based routing technique that can communicate, even if link failures occur in the VFI NoC. The output port is alternatively selected between best and the detour routing path in order to improve reliability with minimized hardware cost. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves full coverage within 1% faulty links. Compared to $d^2$-LBDR that also considers a routing method for searching a detour path in real time, the proposed method, on average, produces 0.8% savings in execution time and 15.9% savings in energy consumption.

  • It is necessary to conduct a detailed geotechnical investigation on the tunnel section in order to secure the tunnel design and construction stability. It is necessary for the importance of geotechnical investigation that needed for the analysis of distribution and size of fractured fault zone and distribution of groundwater in tunnel. However, if it is difficult to perform the ground survey in the tunnel design due to ground condition of the tunnel section and the limited conditions such as civil complaint, the tunnel design is performed using the result of the minimum survey. Therefore, if weathered fault zone exists in the face the reinforcement method is determined in the design process to secure the stability of the tunnel. The most important factor in reinforcing the tunnel excavation surface is to secure the stability of the tunnel by performing quick reinforcement. In particular, if groundwater leaching occurs on the excavation surface, more rapid reinforcement is needed. In this study, fractured fault zone exists on the tunnel excavation surface and displacement occurs due to weathered fracture zone. When the amount of groundwater leaching rapidly increased under the condition of displacement, the behavior of tunnel displacement was analyzed based on tunnel collapse. In the study, reinforcement measures were taken because the first stage displacement did not converge continuously. After the first reinforcement, the displacement was not converged due to increased groundwater leaching and the second stage displacement occurred and chimney collapse occurred.

  • Increasing the operation rate of components and stabilizing the operation through timely management of the core parts are crucial for improving the efficiency of the railroad maintenance industry. The demand for diagnosis technology to assess the condition of rolling stock components, which employs history management and automated big data analysis, has increased to satisfy both aspects of increasing reliability and reducing the maintenance cost of the core components to cope with the trend of rapid maintenance. This study developed a big data platform-based system to manage the rolling stock component condition to acquire, process, and analyze the big data generated at onboard and wayside devices of railroad cars in real time. The system can monitor the conditions of the railroad car component and system resources in real time. The study also proposed a machine learning technique that enabled the distributed and parallel processing of the acquired big data and automatic component fault diagnosis. The test, which used the virtual instance generation system of the Amazon Web Service, proved that the algorithm applying the distributed and parallel technology decreased the runtime and confirmed the fault diagnosis model utilizing the random forest machine learning for predicting the condition of the bearing and wheel parts with 83% accuracy.

  • Virtual memory systems (VM) reduce disk I/Os caused by page faults using page prefetching, which reads pages together with a desired page at a page fault in a single disk I/O. Operating systems including 4.4BSD attempt to prefetch as many pages as possible at a page fault regardless of page access patterns of applications. However, such an approach increases a disk access time taken to service a page fault when a high portion of the prefetched pages is not referenced. More seriously, the approach can cause the memory pollution, a problem that prefetched pages not to be accessed evict another pages that will be referenced soon. To solve these problems, we propose an adaptive page prefetching control scheme (APC), which periodically monitors access patterns of prefetched pages in a process unit. Such a pattern is represented as the ratio of referenced pages among prefetched ones before they are evicted from memory. Then APC uses the ratio to adjust the number of pages that 4.4BSD VM intends to prefetch at a page fault. Thus APC allows 4.4BSD VM to prefetch a proper number of pages to have a better effect on reducing disk I/Os, though page access patterns of an application vary in runtime. The experiment of our technique implemented in FreeBSD 6.2 shows that APC improves the execution times of SOR, SMM, and FFT benchmarks over 4.4BSD VM by up to 57%.

  • The study area, Bonggil-ri, Gyeongju, SE Korea, is composed of Cretaceous sedimentary rocks, and Tertiary igneous rocks and dykes. A research on fracture developing history and density distribution was carried out on well exposed Tertiary granites. The fractures developed in this area have the following sequence; NW-SE trending duo-tile shear bands (set a), NNW-SSE trending extensional fractures (set d), WNW-ESE trending extensional or normal fractures (set b), NE-SW trending right-lateral fractures (set c), WNW-ESE trending reverse fault reactivated from normal faults (set e) and NW-SE trending left-lateral faults reactivated from shear bands (set a) under brittle condition. According to the result of fracture density analysis, the fracture density in this area depends on rock property rather than rock age, and also higher fracture density is observed around fault damage zones. However, this high fracture density may also be related to the cooling process associated with dyke intrusion as well as rock types and fault movement. Regardless of the reason of the high fracture density, high fracture density itself contributes to fluid flow and migration of chemical elements.
