  • The paper presents an evaluation of the tensile strength of the expansion anchor that can cause failure in the concrete based on the design of the anchorage. Tests of the heavy-duty anchor and the wedge anchor that are domestically manufactured and installed in plain concrete members are conducted to probe the effects of the embedded depth, concrete strength, and anchors spacing. The design of post-installed steel anchors is presented using the Concrete Capacity Design (CCD) approach. The CCD method is applied to predict the concrete failure load of the expansion anchor in plain concrete under monotonic loading for important applications. The concrete tension capacity of the fastenings with heavy-duty anchors and wedge anchors in plain concrete predicted using the CCD method is compared with the test results. For the CCD method, a normalization coefficient of 9.94 is appropriale for the nominal concrete breakout strength of an anchor or a group of wedge anchors in tension. On the other hand, a normalization coefficient of 11.50 is appropriate for the nominal concrete breakout strength of an anchor or a group of heavy-duty anchors in tension.

  • In this paper, we investigate several important issues on the implementation of a totally implantable microsystem for brain-machine interface that has been attracting a lot of attention recently. So far most of the scientific research has been focused on the high performance, low power electronics or systems such as neural signal amplifiers and wireless signal transmitters, but the real application of the implantable microsystem is affected significantly by a number of factors, ranging from design of the encapsulation structure to physiological and anatomical characteristics of the brain. In this work, we discuss on the thermal effect of the system, the detecting volume of the neural probes, wireless data transmission and power delivery, and physiological and anatomical factors that are critically important for the actual implementation of a totally brain implantable neural interface microsystem.

  • Microwave model and high-frequency measurement of the ACF flip-chip interconnection was investigated using a microwave network analysis. S-parameters of on-chip and substrate were separately measured in the frequency range of 200 MHz to 20 GHz using a microwave network analyzer HP8510 and cascade probe. And the cascade transmission matrix conversion was performed. The same measurements and conversion techniques were conducted on the assembled test chip and substrate at the same frequency range. Then impedance values in ACF flip-chip interconnection were extracted from cascade transmission matrix. ACF flip chip interconnection has only below 0.1nH, and very stable up to 13 GHz. Over the 13 GHz, there was significant loss because of epoxy capacitance of ACF. However, the addition of SiO$_2$filler to the ACF lowered the dielectric constant of the ACF materials resulting in an increase of resonance frequency up to 15 GHz. High frequency behavior of metal Au stud bumps was investigated. The resonance frequency of the metal stud bump interconnects is higher than that of ACF flip-chip interconnects and is not observed at the microwave frequency band. The extracted model parameters of adhesive flip chip interconnects were analyzed with the considerations of the characteristics of material and the design guideline of ACA flip chip for high frequency applications was provided.

  • With the technological development, benefits of Virtual Reality (VR) has become a key of medium in communication research. In addition, explaining human minds with physiological data has become more popular since more accurate and detailed data can be expressed. However, reading brain signals in a virtual environment setting with psychophysiological measures (e.g. EEG and fNIRS) has remained a difficulty for researchers due to a technical constraint. Since a combination of cables for brain measures attached to a head cap obstruct wearing a Head-Mounted Display (HMD) over the cap, measuring brain activities with multiple channels on several areas of the brain is inappropriate in the VR setting. Therefore, we have developed a new brain measurement cap that includes probe connectors and brackets enabling a direct connection to the HMD. We highly expect this method would contribute to cognitive psychology research measuring brain signals with new technology.

  • A prototype ultrasound sector B-scanner has been developed where the front-end hardware refers to all the necessary circuits for transmitting the ultrasound pulses into the human body and receiving the reflected echo signals from it. The front-end hardware can generally be divided into three parts, i.e., a pulse generator for insonification, a receiver which is responsible for processing of low-level analog signals, and a steering controller for driving the mechanical sector probe whose functions and design concepts are described in this paper. The front-end hardware is implemented which incorporates the following features: improvement of the axial resolution using a circuit which reduces the ring-down time, flexibility of generating time-gain compensation curve, and adoption of a one-chip microcomputer for generating the rate pulses based on the sensor output waveforms.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of conspicuous brand usage between brand experience and brand loyalty in relational perspective, and to probe the difference between the positively experienced consumers and the negatives. Research design, data and methodology: Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and other brands were suggested as consideration set to be selected from 223 Amazon Mechanical Turk respondents, and they answered the structured survey of 33 questions made by Qualtrics with 5-point Likert scale. Structural Equations Model (SEM) was employed to test the hypothesized model, and RStudio and SPSS 18 were used to analyze the dataset. Results: It was confirmed that the more consumers have positive brand experience, the more they are loyal to brand. Conspicuous brand usage can be positively mediated, and consumers who experienced high conspicuous brand usage are more likely to be loyal to the brand. Conclusions: It is noteworthy to find the mediating effect of conspicuous brand usage, and the hidden mechanism between brand experience and brand loyalty. Managers can promote positive conspicuous brand usage when consumers get in touch with product and service channels. By providing impressive conspicuous brand experience, the brand loyalty of the band can be enhanced.

  • The hepatitis C virus (HCV) internal ribosome entry site (IRES) is an RNA structure located in the 5'-UTR of the HCV RNA genome. The HCV IRES consists of four domains I, II, III, and IV, where domains II - IV are recognized by 40S ribosomal subunit and the domain III is bound to eukaryotic initiation factor 3 (eIF3) for translation initiation. Here, we have characterized the tertiary interaction between an L-/K- rich peptide and the HCV IRES domain IV. To probe the peptide binding interface in RNA, we synthesized $^{13}C$- and $^{15}N$-double labeled RNA and the binding site was identified by using the chemical shift perturbation (CSP) NMR methods. Our results showed that the peptide binds to the upper stem of the IRES domain IV, indicating that the tertiary interaction between the IRES domain IV and the peptide would disrupt the initiation of translation of HCV mRNA by blocking the start codon exposure. This study will provide an insight into the new peptide-based anti-viral drug design targeting HCV IRES RNA.
