Due to deterioration of bridge, usually be using the external prestressing method among repair reinforcement method. But, there is much to be desired about a detailed account, almost it has analysed by cambers of girders, deflections of middle span and upper, bottom stresses of girders. Also, it is not examined closely that effect of internal prestress by external prestressing. The purpose of this study is confirmed the effect of internal tendons by external prestressing, estimation of additional external prestressing force and look for exact external prestressing force.

In this paper, an EM sensing based prestressing force estimation method is proposed, in which it can estimate tensile force of PS tendon for PSC girder. The PSC girder has more improved performance than the general concrete girder by introducing the prestressing to the concrete. Thus the PSC girder bridge is widely constructed due to its high performance and low cost. However, the prestressing force has not been managed nevertheless it is major factor for the maintenance of the PSC girder bridge. The prestressing force was just measured during construction using jacking device and after that, it can not be managed. For this reason, this paper proposes a tensile force estimation method of PS tendon based on EM sensor. The permeability of ferroelectric material is changed according to the induced stress to the material, in which it can be measured using EM sensor. To measure the permeability of PS tendon, the EM sensor was fabricated and verified by performing the MTS test. The test was performed using 7-wire steel tendon under the 0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200 KN of tensile force. The permeability of PS tendon was gradually decreased according to the increasement of tensile force. The regression method was used to find the relation between permeability and stress. As a result, the permeability has linear relation with the tensile force of PS tendon and the pre-stressing force can be estimated by the derived estimation equation.

In this paper, an embedded EM sensor was researched to estimate prestressing force of PS tendon in PSC girder. Recent methodologies for managing prestressing force loss were staying on verifying a applying prestressing force under construction, namely the loss management can not be controlled after construction. To estimate the tensile force of PS tendon during lifetime of PSC girder, this research proposed a bobbin-type embedded EM sensor that can be embedded in PSC girder is designed and fabricated considering the shape properties of anchorage zone and sheath. To verify the proposed sensor, a small PSC girder test was performed. The embedded EM sensor was connected to a sheath and anchor block, and the concrete was poured. After curing, the change of the permeability of PS tendon under tensile forces of 200, 710, 1070, 1300kN was measured using embedded EM sensor. The permeability of PS tendon had decreased according to the increment of applied tensile force. Also it is confirmed that the change of permeability due to applied tensile force could resolve the applied tensile force values. As a result, proposed embedded EM sensor could be embed into the PSC girder and it could be used to estimate the tensile force variation during lifetime of PSC girder.

As the results of comparison with several anchorage design methods of PSC box girder, stress superposition effect by the order of prestressing force can't be considered in the case of multi-anchorage design with existing design methods. In anchorage design by 3-D finite element analysis, estimation of stress concentration region and stress flow are correctly defined, but the estimation of sectional forces in anchorage is very complicated. In the case of anchorage design by strut-tie model method, the stress superposition effect can be considered and sectional forces in anchorage are easily calculated. Therefore, strut-tie model method is remarkably suitable to anchorage design if geometrical conditions of the truss members are carefully considered.

This paper introduces a remained tensile force estimation method using SI technique based on evolutionary algorithm for externally prestressed tendon. This paper applies the differential evolutionary scheme to SI technique. A virtual model test using ABAQUS 3 dimensional frame model has been made for this work The virtual model is added to the tensile force(28.5kN). Two set of frequencies are extracted respectively from the virtual test and the self-coding FEM 2 dimension model. The estimating tendon tension for the FEM model is 28.31kN. It is that the error in the tendon tension is 1% through the differential evolutionary algorithm. The errors between virtual model and the self-coding FEM model are assumed as the model error.

Friction in a post-tensioning system has a significant effect on the distribution of the prestressing force of tendons in prestressed concrete structures. However, attempts to derive friction coefficients using conventional electrical resistance strain gauges do not usually lead to reliable results, mainly due to the damage of sensors and lead wires during the insertion of strands into the sheath and during tensioning. In order to overcome these drawbacks of the existing measurement system, the Smart Strand was developed in this study to accurately measure the strain and prestressing force along the strand. In the Smart Strand, the core wire of a 7-wire strand is replaced with carbon fiber reinforced polymer in which the fiber Bragg grating sensors are embedded. As one of the applications of the Smart Strand, friction coefficients were evaluated using a full-scale test of a 20 m long beam. The test variables were the curvature, diameter, and filling ratio of the sheath. The analysis results showed the average wobble and curvature friction coefficients of 0.0038/m and 0.21/radian, respectively, which correspond to the middle of the range specified in ACI 318-08 in the U.S. and Structural Concrete Design Code in Korea. Also, the accuracy of the coefficients was improved by reducing the effective range specified in these codes by 27-34 %. This study shows the wide range of applicability of the developed Smart Strand system.

Friction coefficients of the prestressing tendon are the basic information required to control the prestressing force introduced to PSC structure during jacking. However, the friction coefficients show considerable differences depending on the specifications, causing much confusion to designers. In this study, the ranges of the friction coefficients presented in domestic and foreign specifications are compared together to clarify the differences. Then, a procedure is proposed that can be used to estimate the wobble and curvature friction coefficients from field data such as elongation and prestressing force and from theory related to the friction. The procedure is applied to various tendon profiles of several PSC bridges constructed by ILM, FCM and MSS. The resulting values are compared with those presented in some specifications and assumed in jacking and a reasonable range of the friction coefficient is discussed. Lift-off tests are also performed in some bridges to further verify the results. The resulting wobble friction coefficients are not as small as those presented in AASHTO specifications but range from the lower limit to mid point of domestic specifications, while the curvature friction coefficients approach or slightly exceed the upper limit.

This paper aims at estimating instantaneous prestress losses by measuring the actual prestress forces in prestressed concrete (PSC) box girder bridges. Measurement were taken to study initial prestress losses such as friction losses and slip losses. A new strain gauge system was developed to measure strains in internal tendons. The system was installed on a total of 20 tendons in a PSC box girder bridges. The variation of prestress forces were monitored during prestressing tendon and after prestress transfer. The prestress losses are also calculated including friction losses and slip losses. The measured data were compared with the theoretical values. The result shows that the measured prestress forces agree well with the theoretical values. It is shown that prestress force of each strand in the same tendon is a bit different. This study also shows that prestress losses of continuity tendons during prestress transfer are significantly different each other, which results from the variety of buttress location and tendon profile. The present study provides realistic information on the estimation of actual prestress forces and losses in PSC box girder bridges.

The use of strand wire in structure has been increased by the recent development of construction technologies. Until now, in spite of difficult problems in measuring strand stresses within PSC girders, indirect estimation with a load cell or accelerometer has been often used. In this paper, the electrical resistance strand meter for effective measurement of strand stresses is proposed with experiments considering material, location and thickness of sensor. The reliability and feasibility of the strand meter is enhanced through the experiment with 29.9m PSC girder.
Recently, a high-strength strand of 2400 MPa was developed using domestic technologies. In 2011, KS D 7002 was revised to cover the newly developed high-strength strands to support their practical usage. Presently, however, discussions and evaluations are not sufficient on the mechanical properties of the strands and their performance in structural members. Also, there were no detailed reviews on the need to revise the current design code for practical use of the high-strength strands. In this study, flexural behavior of a member with the high-strength strands was estimated through sectional analysis and a review and comparison of the domestic and foreign design codes were conducted considering the analysis results. Also, the need for the revision of the design code was discussed. Such discussion especially focused on the estimation of the stress in strand, which related with various issues such as determination methods for yield point of strands, time-dependent loss of prestressing force, estimation of stress in strand at member failure, and net strain limit for ductile failure of member. The discussion revealed that some parts in the design code need a revision and the further studies are required.
