  • In this paper, conservation treatment processes for the wooden furniture in the Presidential Archives are introduced. Conservation treatment strategies for modern wooden cultural heritage have been increasingly studied. The current study uses materials similar to those used by the existing conservation treatment method. Material analysis showed that the chair(Lee136-2) and desk(Yun37) in the Presidential Archives are made of Dipterocarpaceae, and both are coated with two layers of varnishing. FT-IR analysis showed that the varnish has a similar spectrum to that of a nitrocellulose-based lacquer(Lee136-2) and top coat(Yun37) and confirmed that a synthetic material was used. Pollutants had adhered to the surface of the wooden furniture and it was also in structurally unstable condition because of cracks and damage to the varnish and wood. Therefore, a conservation treatment was carried out to restore the damaged areas to their original appearance using similar kinds of materials, based on data obtained by materials analysis.

  • If there are pyramids in Egypt for ancient pharaohs, there are presidential libraries, in other words presidential temples, in America for modern ex-presidents. An American presidential library is a monument-but also a history museum and an archive. These libraries are their unique commemorating way for American ex-presidents. These reflect and explain their presidency with their own point of views through museum exhibitions. However, the history presented in the museums of presidential libraries often lacks balance and critical perspective, and offer public access selectively. The presidential libraries, nothing but American business, made from American heroism and self-confidence tradition. In that point, we have to recognize american commemorating cultures are americans, while benchmarking american system. The importance is balanced views and critical perspectives when we accept advanced other country's systems.

Despite these demands, however, there was not enough systematic analysis of systems targeted at oral archives. In this study, which started from this problem equation, the characteristics of oral archives and systems were analyzed and the institution that manages and serves current oral archives was selected to derive problems. It also analyzed the information required by the Presidential Archives, which collects oral archives but plans to build a system design. I will present suggestions for the establishment of a systematic oral archives management system focusing on problems and improvement measures that arise in the process.

  • It is obviously true that the aspects of interior designs in current use have been combined with changing trends and developed and handed down throughout centuries. An examination of respective characteristics of spaces where Korean presidents have lived during their terms of office could get a useful clue by which both traces of Korean modernism and senses of modeling can be perceived. However, there are not enough literatures that can be verified. Therefore, it would be especially meaningful to find out and analyze documents unearthed. The purpose of this study is to consider the expressiveness of interior designs of presidential residence and office which have been combined with changing trends and developed, while classifying respective cases during presidential tenure by periods of Joseon Government general, U. S military administration, the first Republic, the second Republic, the third and the fourth Republic, the fifth Republic, and the sixth Republic, examining relevant literatures, photos, drawings and making on-the-spot survey. The study is also intended to get a better understanding of the aspects and the features of interior designs shown in presidential residences and offices that are not so much made known due to uneasy access to archives and to document the resources buried in oblivion and to consider the historical meanings.

  • This essay would focus on a kinds of new archival strategy. The main frame has been the kinds of activities regulated by laws, or formal activities since 1999. In the case of presidential archives has no another frame. There had never kinds of presidential archives system until President Noh, if anything. It means that the frame has some important points. Although it is, we have to say about the limits of the frame. This essay show 'metaphor frame' for archival system. I think that we have to guess there are methodologies below the two frames. One is quantitative study methodology, and another is qualitative research methodology. The later focuses on the experiences for making narratives. We have to know that this methodology is out of fashioned in the field of history department and cultural anthropology department for the purpose of alternative studies. This essay says about 'archival field description' and 'narrative records' for the new records in archival field. I have to say about that we needs to discuss about kinds of new archival discours. And to conclude, we should manage the records in culture.

The advent of the electronic records environment, the importance of presidential records management, and the importance of managing private records have been a direct background to the 2006 revision of the Records Management Act. The field of electronic records management and the field of presidential records management have challenges and limitations, but have been steadily developing. However, in the private sector, archiving has not changed significantly compared to the voluntary activity. Now the maeul-community is calling for a response from the records management community. A society develops when the private and public sectors cooperate with each other and form healthy check-ups. In the archiving field, it must also become active through cooperation.

There are a large amount of records which are used and maintained only on the web. However, although the web-based governmental records have a great value as national strategic resources and cultural heritages, there is no practical management activity for them. In this context the study discusses the necessity of web-based records information management policies and explores problems of web-based records management policies. As a case study, TNA in the UK and NARA in the US are discussed. Also, the National Archives of Korea and the Presidential Archives are explored. Furthermore, a comparative analysis is conducted against these four cases. Based on the discussion, as a result, the study presents feasible solutions to web-based records management policies in terms of law, system and technology.
