  • This study is aimed to provide the primary data about safety of cosmetics products using indirect preference of korean cosmetics customer and numerical comparison of applied area. For this study, we collected 9,879 cosmetics products which were inspected in cosmetics research team from January, 2010 to December, 2012. The domestic cosmetics was 645 cases (6.5%) and Imported cosmetics was 9,234 cases (93.5%). As manufacturing country, the France has 4,342 cases (44.0%) and the next ranking were like those, Germany 1,637 cases (16.6%), U.S.A 1,476 cases (14.9%), Republic of Korea 645 cases (6.5%), Italy 557 cases (5.6%), and etc 1,222 cases (12.4%). By the year, the cases of test cosmetics have decreased from 3,784 cases (2010), 3,394 cases (2011) to 2,701 cases (2012), the relative ratio of common cosmetics part was drop in but the other group (functional cosmetics and hair dye related products) was increased. The largest market share product was Skin care 5,470 cases (55.4%) and the next order was like those, Make up 1,908 cases (19.3%), Hand & Foot 1,026 cases (10.4%), Hair Care 616 cases (6.2%), Bath 361 cases (3.7%), and etc 498 cases (5.0%). In domestic cosmetics, the greatest proportion was Skin care and the others were Hair Care > Makeup > Hand & Foot > Bath, but the proportion was evidently changed in imported cosmetics, Skin care > Makeup > Hand & Foot > Hair Care > Bath. It is necessary to set the priority of the international quality standards to identify trends from domestic consumers directly or indirectly. Compare the ratio of category and human application parts from domestic and imported cosmetics, we utilize leverage as the basis for future-oriented cosmetic safety.

  • In this study, 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. nonglutinous and glutinous sikhe were added to $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extracts for 15 days at $4^{\circ}C$, and for seven days at $25^{\circ}C$, to examine the extracts' storage properties and sensory characteristics. The results are as follows: (1) On the changes of pH and acidity during storage of $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. nonglutinous and glutinous sikhe, both of them showed lower pH values with lower additive $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extract contents. The pH value continuously decreased with a longer storage period, and the acidity was higher with a lower concentration of $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extract. (2) The total microbial cell count during storage of $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. nonglutinous and glutinous sikhe at $4^{\circ}C$ was 4.6-5.0 log CFU/g at 0 day. The sikhe to which $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extract was not added increased to 8.8-9.0 log CFU/g on the seventh storage day, while the sikhye to which 80 and 100% $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extracts were added were 7.8 and 6.9 logCFU/g, respectively. Thus, the total cell count was lower with a higher additive content of $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extract. The total cell count of the sikhe to which 0-60% $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extracts reached the maximum value on the seventh storage day and did not show any change thereafter. The total cell count of the sikhe to which 80 and 100% $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extracts were added, however, reached the maximum value on the 10th to 13th storage days, thus showing that the storage period was increased by $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. At $25^{\circ}C$, the total cell count was 4.6-5.0 log CFU/g on 0 day and continuously increased during the storage period. It had increased to 8.9-9.5 log CFU/g on the seventh storage day, and no differences were shown according to the additive content of $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extract. (3) On the sensory characteristics of $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. nonglutinous and glutinous sikhe, the $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. nonglutinous sikhe to which 20% $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extract was added showed the highest overall-acceptability value ($4.23{\pm}0.95$), whereas the $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. glutinous sikhe to which 40% $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extract was added showed the highest overall-acceptability value ($3.95{\pm}0.95$). The sikhe to which 20 and 40% $Ulmus$ $pumila$ L. extracts were added showed significantly high taste, flavor, sweetness, and overall-preference values (p<0.05).

  • Imported Valencia oranges were evaluated to determine the relationship between the fruit size and its quality. The orange size was classified into three groups on a commercial basis: small ($140{\sim}160g/113{\pm}5$ fruit/box), medium ($190{\sim}220g/88{\pm}5$ fruit/box), and large ($250{\sim}280g/72{\pm}5$ fruit/box). The physicochemical and sensory properties were analyzed to evaluate the orange quality. No significant difference in the peel thickness and flesh ratio was detected across the fruit sizes. The juice yield of the medium-sized orange and the TSS/TA ratios of the medium-sized and large oranges showed the highest value, respectively (p<0.05). The large orange had the highest vitamin C content, which was positively correlated with both its DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging abilities (p<0.05). In the sensory evaluation of the fruits and their juice, the scores for sourness and overall preference were significantly higher in the medium-sized and large oranges than in the small ones. The total soluble solids, total acidity, TSS/TA ratio, and reducing sugar content were significantly related to the sensory properties. Finally, the quality and sensory properties were considered superior in the medium-sized and lager Valencia oranges. Further studies on the effects of the variety and origin of Valencia oranges on their quality and sensory properties are required.

  • To investigate the sorption characteristics of Cs, which is one of the major isotopes of nuclear waste, on natural zeolite chabazite, XRD, EPMA, EC, pH, and ICP analysis were performed to obtain the informations on chemical composition, cation exchange capacity, sorption kinetics and isotherm of chabazite as well as competitive adsorption with other cations ($Li^+$, $Na^+$, $K^+$, $Rb^+$, $Sr^{2+}$). The chabazite used in this experiment has chemical composition of $Ca_{1.15}Na_{0.99}K_{1.20}Mg_{0.01}Ba_{0.16}Al_{4.79}Si_{7.21}O_{24}$ and its Si/Al ratio and cation exchange capacity (CEC) were 1.50 and 238.1 meq/100 g, respectively. Using the adsorption data at different times and concentrations, pseudo-second order and Freundlich isotherm equation were the most adequate ones for kinetic and isotherm models, indicating that there are multi sorption layers with more than two layers, and the sorption capacity was estimated by the derived constant from those equations. We also observed that equivalent molar fractions of Cs exchanged in chabazite were different depending on the ionic species from competitive ion exchange experiment. The selectivity sequence of Cs in chabazite with other cations in solution was in the order of $Na^+$, $Li^+$, $Sr^{2+}$, $K^+$ and $Rb^+$ which seems to be related to the hydrated diameters of those caions. When the exchange equilibrium relationship of Cs with other cations were plotted by Kielland plot, $Sr^{2+}$ showed the highest selectivity followed by $Na^+$, $Li^+$, $K^+$, $Rb^+$ and Cs showed positive values with all cations. Equilibrium constants from Kielland plot, which can explain thermodynamics and reaction kinetics for ionic exchange condition, suggest that chabazite has a higher preference for Cs in pores when it exists with $Sr^{2+}$ in solution, which is supposed to be due to the different hydration diameters of cations. Our rsults show that the high selectivity of Cs on chabazite can be used for the selective exchange of Cs in the water contaminated by radioactive nuclei.

  • This study aims to review what geographers have contributed to GIS industries and national needs. To-be-geographers and geographers are expected to meet the gap between what we have teamed in school and what we have to do after graduation. The characteristics of GIS industry in the 1990 are summarized with approximate evaluation of the contribution of geographers in each stage. Author introduced the requirement for the licenses of geomatics and geospatial engineering experts and the other licenses, which are important to get a job in GIS industry from 2003 to 2004. A set of questionnaire on the user's requirements was given to GIS people in private companies and public GIS research centers and analyzed. Author found that they put an emphasis on hands-on experiences and programming skills. no advantages or geography such as capability or integration and inter-disciplinary collaboration were not appreciated. The prospects for the GIS tend to be positive but the reflectance of the prospect was not accompanied by at the same degree of preference for geography. Most government strategies for the next ten years' GIS focus on new-growth leading industries. SWOT(strength, weakness, opportunity, threat) analysis of geography for GIS industry will give some directions such as telematics, regional marketing strategies with web-based GIS technology, location based service. That means intra-disciplinary study in geography will evoke the potentiality of GIS, compared with interdisciplinary studies.

  • Three Dimensional Printing (herein, 3D printing) not only gives novelty and interests to modern people but is also a spotlighted technology that could herald a new industrial revolution. The introduction of various 3D printing service platforms has enabled individuals to easily possess products designed through 3D printing. However, there are still many issues to consider until the era of new manufacturing, when 3D printing becomes available to the general public so that anyone can make and design products with 3D printing. For instance, there needs to be sufficient consideration and research on whether the current 3D printing services can prove their higher capability to produce products conventionally done by machines and hands through 3D printing, and on the meaning of selling a wide range of product families like those of most 3D printing service platforms to the consumers. This study, which was initiated in this context, aimed to gain insight on the directions that 3D printing services need to advance going forward by letting consumers have first-hand experience on 3D printing online service platforms with a wide range of product families and those with relatively limited services, and then asking them to answer multiple-choice and short-answer survey questions on the websites they wish to purchase from, diversity of designs, design satisfaction, perceived technical skills, perceived purchase satisfaction, perceived after-sales service(A/S). As a result, we were able to witness that consumers generally had a strong preference for services with a wide range of product families (e.g. Shapeways) compared to services with a narrow range (e.g. Digital Forming). We also verified that design diversity and the possibility of realizing the designs were the crucial aspects that need to be considered with 3D printing services. Moreover, we also carried out discussions on carrying out design consulting by securing a pool of designers from diverse fields, on providing web-based designing software that can be utilized even by beginners, and on operating shops both online and offline in order to provide more competitive 3D printing services.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of cognitive conflict by learner personality and the method of presenting anomalous data to induce cognitive conflict. The participants of this study were 461 high school students. To arose cognitive conflict, an actual demonstration was done for half of the participants and a logical article for the rest. MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) was used to find the learner personality types, and CCLT (Cognitive Conflict Level Test) was used to measure the degree of cognitive conflict aroused when anomalous data was confronted. The results of this study indicated that learner personality types influence the degree of cognitive conflict. First, participants were divided into two personality types via preferences on each of the four preference indices; extraversion (E) or introversion (I), sensing (S) or intuition (N), thinking (T) or feeling (F), judgment (J) or perception (P). The cognitive conflict scores of the thinking types were significantly higher than those of the feeling types. Participants were also divided four personality types according to personality functional types: ST, SF, NT and NF. SF type showed a significantly lower cognitive conflict score than any of the other types. According to the type of learner personality, cognitive conflict was influenced differently by the method of presenting anomalous data. For example, the judgment types had a higher cognitive conflict score by logical argument, and the perception types showed a higher score by demonstration. In conclusion, learner cognitive conflicts were influenced by personality types and the methods of presenting anomalous data.

  • Four types of mixed citrus and carrot juice (CCJ) were prepared with citrus-pressed juice and cake, and carrot-pressed juice. Their physicochemical properties and antioxidative activities were investigated. The four types of juices were created using different ratios of citrus-pressed juice, carrot-pressed juice, citrus-pressed cake, and additives. The mixing ratios of the four CCJ were as follows (all ratios given in the order of citrus-pressed juice : carrot-pressed juice : citrus-pressed cake : additives; 70:30:0:0 for CCJ-1, 65:30:0:5 for CCJ-2, 65:30:5:0 for CCJ-3, and 60:30:10:0 for CCJ-4. Acidity was low in CCJ-3 and -4 at 0.82 and 0.80, respectively, compared with 0.95 in CCJ-1. The fructose, glucose, and sucrose content was 2.11~5.76 g/100 g, 1.20~2.75 g/100 g, and 3.00~4.21 g/100 g, respectively. Total phenolic content was 1.17 and 1.22 times high as 863 and 898 mg% in CCJ-3 and -4, respectively, compared with 735 mg% in CCJ-1. DPPH radical scavenging activities of methanol extracts of CCJ-3 and -4 were 3.05 and 3.29 times as high as 58.7% and 63.3%, respectively, compared with 19.2% in CCJ-1. Superoxide anion scavenging activities were also 1.67 and 1.80 times higher in CCJ-3 and -4 than that of CCJ-1. Inhibition of NO production in methanol extracts of CCJ-4 were 1.15 and 1.57 times as high as 20.9% and 28.5%, respectively, compared with 18.2% in CCJ-1. Based on the sensory evaluation, CCJ-3 was more preferable in terms of color, flavor, taste, and overall preference than CCJ-1, -2, and -4. It was concluded that CCJ-3 made with 65% citrus-pressed juice, 30% carrot-pressed juice, and 5% citrus-pressed cake were high in antioxidative activity and the inhibition of NO production, and more preferable in terms of sensory attributes.
