Abstract Mobile communication is more vulnerable to security attacks such as interception and unauthorized access than fixed network communication. To overcome these problems, many protocols have been proposed to provide a secure channel between a mobile station and a base station. However, these public-key based protocols have not been fully utilized due to the poor computing power and small battery capacity of mobile stations. In this paper, we propose techniques for accelerating public-key based key establishment protocols between a mobile station and a base station. The proposed techniques enable a mobile station to borrow computing power from a base station without revealing its secret information. The proposed schemes accelerate the previous protocols up to five times and reduce the amount of power consumption of mobile stations.

  • The configuration of hierarchical wireless networks is provided to support diverse network environments. In the base station, two system state can be basically considered for the operation management so that the state transition may be occurred between active and sleep modes. Hence, to reduce energy consumption the system operation management of the low power should be considered to the base station system. In this paper we consider the analytical model of Discontinuous Reception (DRX) to investigate the system management. We provide the analysis scheme of base station system by the DRX model, and the low power factor would be investigated for the energy consumption. We also use the finite-state Markov system model that in a system state period the wireless resource request and the operation of service call arrival interval is considered to numerically analyze the performance of energy saving operations of base station.

  • This paper deals with the measurement and analysis of radio characteristic of 424 MHz for using the automation of transmission and supply of electric power, ana automatic meter reading(AMR). Normally radio propagation characteristic is the base of system design, performance evaluation and choice of position of the base station in wireless communication. It is the most accurate way to design a base station through practical measurements, but it costs much time, money and engineers. So, we developed 424 MHz short range wave propagation model for AMR service.

  • As a section of electric power system linked with Kepco was changed, the decrease in qulity of the electric power transmitted to the Hapcheon hydraulic power station occurred. The actual state bring about the overheating and capability decline of electricity accommodation equipment. From now, let's improve the efficiency on the maintenance of generating equipment by studying about the cause and the method for this problem.

  • The emergency diesel generator (EDG) in a nuclear power plant (NPP) shall start within 10 secondss and supply electrical power to engineered safety features within one minute and less if a loss of offsite power (LOOP), A design-basis event, or their combination occur. Each NPP has an EDG set consisting of two diesel generators for redundancy. In addition to the EDG set, an alternate Alternating Current Diesel Generator (AAC DG) is installed and shared by several units to cope with a station black out (SBO), i.e., loss of the offsite power concurrent with reactor trip and unavailability of the EDG set. The objective of this study is to analyze the failure data of emergency diesel generators reported in overseas nuclear power plants.

  • Researchers have made significant progress in recent years towards realizing effective structural health monitoring (SHM) utilizing wireless smart sensor networks (WSSNs). These efforts have focused on improving the performance and robustness of such networks to achieve high quality data acquisition and distributed, in-network processing. One of the primary challenges still facing the use of smart sensors for long-term monitoring deployments is their limited power resources. Periodically accessing the sensor nodes to change batteries is not feasible or economical in many deployment cases. While energy harvesting techniques show promise for prolonging unattended network life, low power design and operation are still critically important. This research presents the WiSeMote: a new, fully integrated ultra-low power wireless smart sensor node and a flexible base station, both designed for long-term SHM deployments. The power consumption of the sensor nodes and base station has been minimized through careful hardware selection and the implementation of power-aware network software, without sacrificing flexibility and functionality.

  • In the 21st yearly session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, held in Paris, France, in December 2015, the "Paris Agreement" was negotiated; this is a new global agreement on the reduction of climate change, which encourages every country to participate in countermeasures for global climate change. Along with such movements, the electric railway sector has also been actively engaged in low carbon technology. This paper studied the building of a 1.5MW photovoltaic power generation system using the rooftop of the Gwangmyeong Station Building, which is the largest roof among the high-speed railway station buildings in Korea; this station has passenger traffic that reached about 7 million in 2014. For this study, we configured an optimized photovoltaic (PV) power generation system and then estimated the expected annual energy production by using PV system software; we also calculated the expected revenue that could be obtained by linking this source to the power distribution system. The obtained data were used to analyze the contribution of low-carbon energy that could be obtained by introducing a PV power generation system on the roof of an electric railway station building.

  • Recently, as a result of increasing concern about eco-friendly power, the demand for the power stations using environmentally friendly powers such as photovoltaic energy, wind force, tidal power, and tidal current has been increasing worldwide. Among these power stations tidal current power plant requires strong current generated by the topographic characteristics of the ocean floor. Uldolmok waterway producing very strong current is an ideal location for a tidal current power generation. However the occurrence of anthropogenic underwater noise generated by the tidal current power station may affect the marine environment. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the noise radiated from the station and predict the range influenced by the radiated noise. In this paper, the measurements of radiated noise spectrum level by the tidal current power station are presented, and the source level per unit area is estimated. Finally, the propagation properties of the radiated noise in the Uldolmok waterway is evaluated from the model simulation using the parabolic equation method, RAM.

  • We have proposed and implemented a novel cost-effective optical subcarrier mutiplexing transceiver for base station without light sources in which optical signal can be transmitted bidirectionally over a single optical fiber. Modulated optical signal is retransmitted from the base station to the central office using a ring-type base station which consists of a circulator and an Mach-Zehnder modulator, where the optical source is supplied from the central office. In order to investigate the feasibility of the proposed base station without light sources, we have measured adjacent channel power ratio and carrier to noise ratio by transmitting the IS-95 CDMA signal and 14 tones carrier signal bidirectionally through the system.
