  • LoRa is a physical layer technology designed to secure highly reliable long-range communication with introducing loco parentis tree network and chirp spreading spectrum. Since since a leaf can send message to more than one parents simultaneously with a single transmission in a region, packet delivery ratio increases logarithmically as the number of gateways increases. The delivery ratio, however, dramatically collapses even under loco parentis tree topology due to the limitations of ALOHA-like primitive MAC, . The proposed method is intended to exploit SDMA approach to reuse frequency in an area. With the view, TxPower of each sender for each message in a concurrent transmission is elaborately controlled to survive the collision at different gateway. Thus, the gain from the capture effect improves the capacity of resource-hungry Low Power and Wide Area Networks.

  • With high penetration of renewable energies, power electronic transformers (PETs) will be one of the most important infrastructures in the future power delivery and management system. In this study, an isolated bidirectional modular multilevel DC/DC converter is proposed for PET applications. A modular multilevel structure is adopted as switching valves to sustain medium voltages to achieve modular design and high reliability. Only one high-frequency transformer is used in the proposed converter, which significantly simplifies the circuit and galvanic insulation design. A dual-phase-shift modulation strategy is proposed to regulate the output power and achieve a simple voltage balancing control. A down-scaled (2 kW/20 kHz) prototype is constructed to demonstrate the proposed converter and verify the control strategy. The experimental results comply with the theoretical analysis well, with the highest power efficiency reaching 97.6%.

  • As the performance and density of IC devices increase, especially the clock frequency increases, power grid network integrity problems become more challenging. To resolve these power integrity problems, the use of passive devices such as resistor, inductor, and capacitor is very important. To manage the power integrity with little noise or ripple, decoupling capacitors are essential in electronic packaging. The decoupling capacitors are classified into voltage regulator capacitor, board capacitor, package capacitor, and on-chip capacitor. For next generation packaging technologies such as 3D packaging or wafer level packaging on-chip MIM decoupling capacitor is the key element for power distribution and delivery management. This paper reviews the use and necessity of on-chip decoupling capacitor.

  • In this paper, multiple offshore wave energy converters with different output characteristics are connected to one power distribution substation. The connection between the power take-off of the different wave energy converters and the electrical power transmission system is presented in order to investigate whether multiple wave energy converters can augment energy yield and improve network integration capabilities. Moreover, the model of an array of wave energy converters is developed with the goal of analyzing the effects of the offshore wave farm on the electrical network to which it is connected. It is also developed to ensure that the electricity generated by the array is sufficiently controllable, and of a quality that can be integrate into the electricity supply network without unduly increasing the cost of connection, production or delivery.

  • This study examined the effects of complex dance program(ballet, contemporary dance, yoga) on the body composition, BDNF, and serotonin of delivery women, by providing this program for 12 weeks to 14 women(within one year delivery: seven woman, 1-3 years after delivery: seven women). In the results of body composition, in the main effects in accordance with period, both groups showed significant decreases of body fat percentage. The fat-free mass was significantly increased in the group of women within one year after childbirth(t=3.821, p=.009). Regarding BDNF and serotonin, there were no interactive effects between groups and periods while the main effects did not show differences between groups and periods(p>.05). In the results of correlation analysis and regression analysis on BDNF, body composition, and serotonin, the BDNF and serotonin showed the positive correlation(p=.025). In the results of simple regression analysis, the explanatory power was 17.9%(r=.424, $r^2=.179$).

  • Magnetic cables that can deliver high frequency AC electric power safely for flammable or sensitive workplaces preventing from arcs and electric shocks are firstly proposed in this paper. To deliver the power for a long distance, several new magnetic cable structures which drastically reduce the parallel leakage flux by appropriate magnetic shield between the magnetic cables are suggested; hence, the output power can be improved more than ten times. The proposed magnetic cables are fully analyzed and verified by simulations and experiments with good agreement. The output power and efficiency for a prototype magnetic cable of 1.5m long and 1 cm gap between parallel cores were measured as 154W and 67 %, where the source current and frequency were 10 A and 20 kHz, respectively.

  • Wakeup schemes that turn off sensors' radio when communication is not necessary have great potential in energy saving. At the start of each beacon interval in the IEEE 802.11 power saving mode specified for DCF, each node periodically wakes up for duration called the ATIM Window. However, in the power saving mechanism specified in IEEE 802.11, all nodes use the same ATIM window size. Since the ATIM window size critically affects throughput and energy consumption, a fixed ATIM window does not perform well in all situations. This paper proposes an adaptive mechanism to dynamically choose an ATIM window size according to network condition. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the IEEE 802.11 power saving mechanism in terms of the amount of power consumed and the packet delivery ratio.

  • This paper suggests the energy-efficient message delivery scheme and the software platform which exploits the multiple network interfaces of the mobile terminals and GPS in the current mobile devices. The mobile terminals determine the delivery method among 'direct', 'indirect', and 'WAN' based on the position information of itself and other terminals. 'Direct' method sends a message directly to the target terminal using local RAT. 'Indirect' method extends the service area by exploiting intermediate terminals as relay node. If the target terminal is too far to reach through 'direct' or 'indirect' method, the message is sent using wireless WAN technology. Our proposed scheme exploits the position information and, thus, power consumption is drastically reduced in determining handover time and direction. Network simulation results show that our proposed delivery scheme improves the message transfer efficiency and the handover detection latency. We implemented a message platform in a smart phone realizing the proposed delivery scheme. We compared our platform with other typical message platforms from energy efficiency aspect by observing the real power consumption and applying the mathematical modeling. The comparison results show that our platform requires significantly less power.

  • The experimental optical cross-connect based on delivery and coupling switch features all-optical property. It consists of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, arrayedwaveguide gratings, optical switches and optical combiners. In 4 channel wavelength division multiplexing with 1.6 nm spacing, the difference in power level among channels for output signals from the optical cross-connect was within 2 dB.
