  • The organic insulation material has excellent thermal insulation property, but it is difficult to expect fire stability, and semi inorganic insulation only delays combustible hour but it is difficult to expect fire stability. In this study, thermal insulation property of cement-based non-combustible inorganic insulation using cement and non combustible materials and redispersible polymer powder was studied. As a result of the experiment, the thermal insulation property decreased as the use of redispersible polymer powder increased, but the heat insulation property improved when using the appropriate amount.

  • This paper presents apparent thermal conductivity of various powder at different vacuum levels for cryogenic insulation. Four kinds of powder insulator are examined by using boil-off calorimetry at pressure range from 50 Torr to 3 mTorr. The first material is perlite which is widely used in cryogenic application. Microsphere is the second one that is recently proposed as a replacement powder for liquid hydrogen storage tanks. It is a hollow sphere made of silica with the diameter in the order of 10 to $100{\mu}m$. Popped rice and polystyrene beads are also selected as candidates for powder insulation even though they are polymers. With their porous elliptic and spherical configuration and light density, they demonstrate fairly good thermal insulation performance at pressure range from 50 Torr to 3 mTorr. According to the experimental investigation in this paper, microsphere and polystyrene beads possess promising insulation characteristic as powder insulators and further study is desired.

  • External insulation method is used to conserve energy of buildings. However, the current external insulation method uses organic insulating materials to become a diffusion path in case of fire. In this study, the purpose of this study is to provide basic data on the required performance of the plastering material according to the CaCO3 powder addition of the finishing material of the external insulation method. In Figure 1, when powder was added, the adhesion strength decreased by 30% to 35% at 10% and 0% to 50% at 20% compared to Plain. In Figure 2, the moisture permeability increases approximately twice when powder is added. The results for the water absorption coefficient are shown in Figure 3.

  • The global demand for Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) continues to increase and is facing a big cycle. To keep pace with the increase in international demand for LNG, the demand for LNG fueled ships is also increasing. Since LNG fuel tanks are operated in a cryogenic environment, insulation technology is very important, and although there are various types of insulation applied to Type C tanks, multi-layer insulation and vacuum insulation are typically applied. Powder insulation materials are widely used for storage and transportation of cryogenic liquids in tanks with such a complex insulation structure. In this study, compression tests at room and cryogenic temperature were performed on closed perlite, glass bubble, and fumed silica, which are representative powder insulation material candidates. Finally, the applicability to the Type C fuel tank was reviewed by analyzing the experimental results of this study.

  • During a routine inspection of a large pump motor at power plant, white powder was found on the surface of the stator end windings. Visual inspection and high voltage insulation diagnosis was performed to determine whether this motor is available. The purpose of this paper is to understand the insulation properties of white powder found on high voltage stator and to know prevention of insulation weakness.

  • This paper is a numerical study of various methods of applying SOFC hot BOP insulation. The application methods are four cases from case 1 to case 4, and the performance difference between the result of applying powdered insulation and the result of zoning using composite multi-layer insulation was examined. Numerical results show that the thermal stability of composite multi-layer insulation is better than that of powder insulation when the thermal conductivity is 0.04 W/mK. In the future, we will increase the thermal conductivity of the composite multi-layer thermal insulation material and find the greatest value of thermal conductivity with a similar result to that of the powder insulation.

  • Epoxy powder is being in use for insulation materials widely. Especially, in cause of coating insulation can be caused electrical fire and explosion by Joul's heat. This study has been compared and examined around breakdown, arc discharge, and V-t about insulation of Epoxy powder. Also, it has been researched about insulation which is cause of electrical fire and its basic data. According to temperature change, sample KS was stable before the Tg to be about $8{\sim}10%$ decrease in the breakdown test. In case of V-t and arc discharge, it had been kept up suitable characteristic. Also, in case of electrical characteristic, sample KS has excellent capacity.

  • In this study, the pure iron powder was treated with aqueous phosphoric acid to produce phosphate insulating layer on the surface. After drying the powder, it was compacted in a mold with a diameter of 20mm at 800MPa. The powder compacts were then heat treated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The results showed that insulated iron powder was obtained with uniform phosphate layer by chemical reaction. With increased amount of phosphate layer, the core loss and density of compacts were decreased. It was also found that the addition of ethyl alcohol during insulating reaction resulted in improved core loss value.

  • Evacuated powder insulations have long been known to have better thermal performance than existing commercially available insulators, such as fiber glass and CFC-blown foam. To make a composite powder panel, a series of individually evacuated panels was encapsulated in a rigid closed cell foam matrix. The panels were encapsulated in a thin glass sheet barrier to preserve the vacuum. The thermal conductivity of the individual panel was found to be $0.0062W/m^{\circ}K$ by experiment and the polyurethane foam above had a thermal conductivity of $0.024W/m^{\circ}K$. In this study, numerical analysis using finite element method was carried out to investigate insulation performance of rigid foam/evacuated powder composite panel with respect to panel geometries such as panel pitch, panel aspect ratio and panel area ratio. Numerical analysis has indicated that more optimal vacuum panel geometries, much lower overall thermal conductivities can be achieved.

  • Fly ash has different chemical composition depending on the type and quality of flaming coal. Fly ash is classified according to carbon content and particle size. Waste glass powder is manufactured by crushing glass. Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) is generally applied by using poly-styrene foam which is economical and has excellent thermal insulation performance. However, poly-styrene foam has excellent insulation performance, but it is vulnerable to fire, which is becoming a serious problem. In this study, using a fly ash and waste glass powder to produce a finishing mortar at high temperatures. Also, High temperature strength and flame retardant properties were tested according to the cover thickness. From the test result, finishing mortar prepared using fly ash and waste glass powder is due to the improved heat resistance by alkali-activated bonding. However, since the strength decreases at high temperatures, it is necessary to select an appropriate mixing proportion.
