The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of mother's education about amblyopia occlusion therapy on parenting stress and efficacy and the visual acuity improvement of the amblyopia child. The study was designed as a nonequivalent control group pretest posttest quasi-experimental study. The mothers with amblyopia children who signed the consent form were assigned to one of two groups, the experimental group (29) and control group (31). The data were collected from March 5 to October 5, 2010, at G university hospital outpatient department located in G city. The subjects in the experimental group participated in the Mothers Education about Amblyopia Occlusion Therapy for 24 weeks, which included face to face consultations, telephone counseling, etc.. The degree of parenting stress and efficacy were measured by using questionnaires and the visual acuity was measured by visual examination. The data were analyzed using the ${\chi}^2-test$, Fisher's exact probability test, t-test and Repeated Measure ANOVA using SPSS PC+20.0 for Windows. The following results were found after the therapy. The experimental group had statistically significantly higher visual acuity (Rt, F=40.64, p<.001, Lt, F=10.28, p<.001), lower parenting stress scores (F=9.85, p=.003) and higher parenting efficacy scores (F=22.19, p<.001) than the control group. In conclusion, the Mothers about Amblyopia. Occlusion Therapy Education Program was effective in improving the visual acuity of the amblyopia children, and decreasing the parenting stress and enhancing the parenting efficacy of their parents.

The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate patient safety reporting promoting strategy for nurses to improve nursing care quality. The process included three phase - construction, implementation and evaluation phase. Before the construction phase has two kinds of subcategories as analysis and verification. Analysis phase was consisted of literature review and field study, and verification was conducted by two specialist. At the construction phase, patient safety reporting system, educational materials, planning for public relation, and reward preparation were developed. After implementation during 12 weeks, we evaluated pre-post scores of satisfaction, stress of conscience, job performances. The participants were 51 nurses working for a hospitals. The program was developed and then administered to the experimental group for 12 weeks. One group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, paired t-test with the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. After the intervention, job performance scores improved significantly from 3.62 to 3.75(t=2.653, p=.009). But job stress didn't changed significantly(t=.785, p=.434). These strategy can be applied to many clinical setting that will be helpful to promote patient safety reporting for nurses.
The present study proposes and examines a new type of multiple-choice math test. In this format, the options are the intermediate derivatives of the math problem solution process rather than the final answers. This idea originates from the studies on the effect of worked-out examples. In these studies, it has been shown that students learn better when they were presented with worked-out examples than when presented with final answers by themselves. In line with these findings, we introduced the intermediate derivatives of the solution process as the options of multiple-choice items so that the test-taker will have a chance to examine the solution process. The test was implemented as a computerized test in which students can solve problems in a short answer format, and then pick a multiple-choice option which appears when requested. The experimental group had multiple-choice options which were intermediate derivatives of the solution process, and the control group had the final answers as the options as in most multiple-choice tests. The participants were 6th graders in elementary school. The posttest results revealed that the average score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. The results suggest that tests that use intermediate derivatives of the problem solution process as options can be used as learning tools in the classrooms. Finally, directions for further studies were discussed.
Older adults in the hospice care experience difficulties in expressing their emotional and psychological issues, which has detrimental effect in their well-being. The purpose of this study is to examine how music can be used to facilitate self-expression both verbally and nonverbally in order to decrease negative influences of self-concealment. Four cases were referred from hospice personnel at the hospital, and received music therapy sessions for four month. The total number of session varied from 9 to 11 depending on the conditions of each case. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from pre and post test of Self-Concealment Scale and Personal Descriptive Essays. The results indicated that the use of music, especially programed songs were effective in evoking emotional responses with various life-related issues and themes. The posttest indicated that the level of self-concealment has decreased, and also the Personal Descriptive Essays involved increased statements of emotional content after music therapy implementation. The study indicates that music can be used as an significant communicative and expressive medium when working with older adults in the hospice or palliative care, since they experience many difficulties to be engaged in the active expression. Music provide both passive and active experience through listening and participating, and programed music therapy intervention will increase the quality of life through expressive music activities.
This study investigated the effects of song discussion on depression and rehabilitation motivation in stroke patients. Older adults with chronic stroke participated in this study: nine for the experimental group and eight for the control group. The experimental group was divided into three subgroups and participated in 12 sessions over 6 weeks. Target lyrics were selected by the investigator among popular songs from the participants' young adulthood. The song-based discussion was facilitated to address issues targeted at supportive, insight-focused, or reconstructive stage. The control group was provided with delayed intervention. At pre and posttest, the short form of Geriatric Depression Scale and the Rehabilitation Motivation Scale were measured. The experimental group showed significantly decreased depression and significantly increased rehabilitation motivation (p < .01), while the control group showed no significant changes. Positive changes were also observed in all subcategories of rehabilitation motivation in the experimental group, particularly in significantly increased task-oriented motivation and decreased amotivation. This study suggests that song discussion will be effectively applied in rehabilitative settings to address psychological issues of older adults with stroke.
This quasi-experimental study was intended to test the effect of self-help group program, which is one of the way to enhance adaptation and quality of life to mastectomy patients. Data was collected from July 14, 1998 to Oct. 31, 1998 at two Medical Center in Seoul. The subjects for this study were the patients who had undergone mastectomy and were follow-up ; 14 in experimental group and 14 in control group matched with age and treatment. The instruments for this study were adaptation in Lee(1994)'s physical symptom questionnaire, Zung's Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS, 1965), and Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS, 1970), quality of life in Spranger(1996)'s and No(1988)'s Quality of Life Questionnaire. The self-help group program for mastectomy patients was developed based on literature review and pilot study by the investigator. The subjects of experimental group were participated in 6 weeks self-help group program and were received arm and shoulder exercise, informational support, and interpersonal support by group members. The control group were received no intervention, Both group answered questionnaires prior to intervention and 6 weeks later. The data analyzed by frequency, $X^2$-test, Mann-Whitney U test. Wilcoxon Signed Rank test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression using SPSS WIN. The results are as follows ; Hypothesis 1. "The experimental group with the self-help group program will have a higher score on adaptation state than control group." was not supported. But the post test score of anxiety and depression in experimental group were declined and the depression score was reduced relatively. Hypothesis 2. "The experimental group with the self-help group program will have a higher score on quality of life than control group." was not supported. But the posttest score of quality of life in experimental group was reduced relatively. Hypothesis 3. "The higher adaptation state of mastectomy patients, the higher quality, of life." was supported(r=,80, p<.001). Additionally, the lower physical symptom, depression and anxiety, the higher quality of life And depression, which was the main predictor of quality of life, accounted for 59.5%, depression and anxiety accounted for 65.5% of the variance in quality of life. In conclusion, when the self-help group program was intervened to mastectomy patients, it was tended to increase quality of life and to reduce depression and anxiety. So self-help group program can be considered useful nursing inter vention effect on adaptation and quality of life of mastectomy patients. With discussion, I suggest repeated further re search on self-help group with appropriate sample size and longitudinal study. Also during adjuvant therapy, it is needed to develop convenient method to be supported from peer group and family, such as computer mediated support group.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of bladder training on self voiding after removal of catheter in female patients with craniotomy, finally to develop a bladder rehabilitation program for cognitive impaired patients. Nonequivalent control group posttest design was used. The population of this study consisted of 34 hospitalized neurosurgical patients, all patients have been received craniotomy. 17 patients were assigned to the experimental group and another 17 patients to the control group. The homogeneity of general characteristics of the subjects was no significant difference. Bladder training program consisted of pre-training education, the bladder training, positive verbal reinforcement. The experimental group has been received bladder training and the control group has been received gravity drainage. The dependent variable, the frequency of voiding trial untill self voiding achieves, the frequency of urinary retention, the amount of residual urine, the occurrence, of urinary incontinence, were measured during 3 days after catheter removed. The data analyzed with SPSSWIN ; frequency, percentage, t-test and $X^2$-test were used to analyze homogeneity of general characteristics of subjects between the experimental and the control group. T-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and $X^2$-test were used to determine the effect of bladder training. The result of the study were as follows : There was significant difference in the frequency of voiding trial untill self voiding achieves between the experimental group and the control group. There was no significant difference in the frequency of urinary retention between the experimental group and the control group. There was no significant difference in the amount of residual urine between the experimental group and the control group. However, there was significant difference in the amount of residual urine in urinary retention patients. There was significant difference in the occurrence of urinary incontinence between the experimental group and the control group. In conclusion, bladder training program as a nursing intervention was effective in conclusion, bladder self voiding ability after removal of catheter for craniotomy patients. Therefore, it is recommended to use the bladder training program clinically for the bladder management of cognitive impaired patients.
This study was done to develop a human relation and communication course combined with a convergence communication training program and examine the effects of communication self efficacy, communicative competence, and interpersonal relations in nursing students. The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design, data were collected between September 5 and December 13, 2016, Participants were 83 1-year nursing students in 1 College of D City, and were assigned to an experimental group (n=41), or a control group (n=42). The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, and ${\chi}^2$ test with the SPSS/WIN 21.0. After receiving the program, difference was observed in communication self-efficacy(t=15.23, p<.001), communicative competence(t=11.42, p<.001), and interpersonal relations(t=19.24, p<.001) of the experimental group. It is expected that these results would be helpful for increasing communication self efficacy, communicative competence, and interpersonal relations in nursing students on human relation and communication course combined with a convergence communication training program.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of cadaver practice education on self-efficacy, attitude to death, and nursing professional self-concept of nursing students. The study was designed using a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design, data was collected November 1 and 30, 2016. The participants were 59, 2-year nursing students (29 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group) attending 1 university located in D City. Cadaver practice education program was performed 3 sessions combined 3 hours theoretical explanation and 4 hours cadaver practice a session. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, ${\chi}^2$ test, and t-test with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The results of the study indicate that the cadaver practice education were effective in the experimental group reported a significant increase in self-efficacy(t=2.62, p=.028), attitude to death(t=5.67, p=.000), and nursing professional self-concept(t=2.57, p=.013) compared to students in the control group in nursing students. The results of the study indicate that the cadaver practice education was effective in increasing self-efficacy, attitude to death, and nursing professional self-concept of nursing students. These results provide basic data to develop future anatomy practice curriculum.
This study used a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design to develop an information provision program for arteriovenous fistula and angioplasty patients and to examine the effects of the information provision program offered by operating room nurses. The research subjects were selected trough convenience sampling who had come to hospitals to have an arteriovenous fistula and angioplasty surgery, and an experimental group and a control group of 40 persons. The information provision program consisted of two sessions, each conducted on the day of surgery and after surgery. The content included surgery information, pain management after surgery, management of dialysis blood vessels, how to handle emergency, and management of complications. The results of the study showed that the experimental group, which was offered an information provision program by nurses, a decrease in trait and state anxiety and an increase in self-efficacy on a statistically significant level. In conclusion, the information provision program provided by operating room nurses helped to reduce anxiety in arteriovenous fistula and angioplasty patients and increase their self-efficacy. This will improve end-stage renal disease patients' self-management ability after surgery, and thus, contribute to improving the prevention of complications and the level of self-nursing care.
