Partially Dehydrated Fully Zn2+-exchanged Zeolite Y (FAU, Si/Al = 1.70) and Its Structure

  • The crystal structure of partially dehydrated fully $Zn^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite Y was determined by X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group $Fd\bar{3}m$ at 294(1) K and refined to the final error indices $R_1/wR_2$ = 0.035/0.119 for $|Zn_{35.5}(H_2O)_{13}|[Si_{121}Al_{71}O_{384}]$-FAU. About 35.5 $Zn^{2+}$ ions per unit cell are found at six distinct positions; sites I, I', a second I', II', II, and a second II. In sodalite cavities, the 11 water molecules coordinate to Zn(I'b) and/or Zn(II') ions; each of two $H_2O$ bonds to a Zn(IIb) in supercages. Two different $Zn^{2+}$ positions near 6-oxygen ring are due to their Si-Al ordering in tetrahedral site by Si/Al ratio leading to the different kinds of 6-rings.

  • The industrial disaster caused by a work-related disease like a Musculoskeletal Disorders(MSDs) becomes a big social problem and increases rapidly. This leads to the degradation of the labor desire and the productivity. Welding work belongs to the work with a high intensity. This paper aims to analyze the welding work in the various positions from a view-point of the burden of the human musculoskeletal system and to propose the desired position with lower burden. For this purpose the real welding work was observed in the shipyard and analyzed using the RULA method, a powerful ergonomics tool. The 3-dimensional simulation model fur this work was also developed. In this model, ergonomics human model and welding work environment were built. This model was verified through the comparison to the real work. This paper showed that the improvement of welding position by changing the location of a stool and using some auxiliary tool can reduce the work intensity remarkably and lead to the decrease of MSDs.

Computational Detection of Prokaryotic Core Promoters in Genomic Sequences

  • The high-throughput sequencing of microbial genomes has resulted in the relatively rapid accumulation of an enormous amount of genomic sequence data. In this context, the problem posed by the detection of promoters in genomic DNA sequences via computational methods has attracted considerable research attention in recent years. This paper addresses the development of a predictive model, known as the dependence decomposition weight matrix model (DDWMM), which was designed to detect the core promoter region, including the -10 region and the transcription start sites (TSSs), in prokaryotic genomic DNA sequences. This is an issue of some importance with regard to genome annotation efforts. Our predictive model captures the most significant dependencies between positions (allowing for non­adjacent as well as adjacent dependencies) via the maximal dependence decomposition (MDD) procedure, which iteratively decomposes data sets into subsets, based on the significant dependence between positions in the promoter region to be modeled. Such dependencies may be intimately related to biological and structural concerns, since promoter elements are present in a variety of combinations, which are separated by various distances. In this respect, the DDWMM may prove to be appropriate with regard to the detection of core promoter regions and TSSs in long microbial genomic contigs. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of our predictive model, we applied 10-fold cross-validation experiments on the 607 experimentally-verified promoter sequences, which evidenced good performance in terms of sensitivity.

Perception Method of the Marking Location for Automation of Billet Marking Processes (빌릿 마킹 공정의 자동화를 위한 마킹 위치 인식 방법)

  • The machine vision has been applied to a number of industrial applications for quality control and automations to improve the manufacturing processes. In this paper, the automation system using the machine vision is developed, which is applicable to the marking process in a steel production process line. The working environment is very harsh to workers so that the automatic system in the steel industry is required increasingly. The developed automatic marking system consists of several mechanical and electrical elements such as the laser position detecting sensor system fur a structured laser beam which is projected to the billet in order to detect the geometry of the billet. An image processing algorithm has been developed to percept the two center positions of a camera and a billet, respectively, and to align two centers. A series of experiments has been conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed algorithm. The results show that two centers of the camera and the billet could be detected very well and differences between two center positions could be also decreased via the proposed location error decreasing algorithm.

Dynamic Characteristics and Control of Two-Link Arm with Free Joint (자유관절을 가진 2링크 암의 동특성과 제어)

  • A robot arm with free joints has some advantages over conventional ones. A light weight and low power consumed arm can be made by a reduction of the number of joint actuators. And this arm can easily overcomes actuator failure due to unexpected accident. In general such underactuated arm does not have controllability because of the lack of joint actuators. The two-link arm with a free joint introduced in this paper is also uncontrollable in the sense of linear system theory. However, the linearized system sometimes can not represent the inherent dynamic behavior of the nonlinear system. In this paper the dynamic characteristics of the two-link arm with a free joint in view of global motion including damping and friction effect of the joints is investigated. In the case of considering only the damping effect, the controllable goal positions are confined to a specific trajectories. But in the case of considering the friction effect, the system can be controlled to arbitrary positions using the friction of the free joint as a holding brake. Also numerical example of position control is presented.

  • Dynamic behaviors are analyzed for an automatic ball balancer (ABB) with triple races, which is a device to reduce the unbalanced mass of optical disk drives (ODD) such as CD-ROM or DVD drives. The nonlinear equations of motion are derived by using Lagrange's equations with the polar coordinate system. It is shown that the polar coordinate system provides the complete stability analysis while the rectangular coordinate system used in other previous studies has limitations on the stability analysis. For the stability analysis, the equilibrium positions and the linearized perturbation equations are obtained by the perturbation method. Based on the linearized equations, the stability of the system is analyzed around the equilibrium positions; furthermore, to confirm the stability, the time responses for the nonlinear equations of motion are computed by using a time integration method and experimental analyses are performed. Theoretical and experimental results show a superiority of the ABB with triple races.

A Study on the Human Finger Model using Wire-type SMA Actuator (와이어형 형상기억합금 구동기를 이용한 인체 손가락 모델에 대한 연구)

  • This paper describes a human finger model driven by shape memory alloy(SMA) wires. The finger model has three joints that are similar to human finger. Each joint is actuated with two wires in the antagonistic manner and six wires are used to actuate three finger joint. In order to obtain the desirable finger motion, the diameters of the SMA wires are designed with different diameters by considering the required actuating force and response time. The rotary sensors are used to measure the angle positions of the joints and PWM control using PID algorithm is used to achieve desired angle positions of the finger joints. After estimating the control performance of each finger joint for the desired angle position, the antagonistic motion control of the finger model is experimentally evaluated.

A Study on the Performance of Optimization Techniques on the Selection of Control Source Positions in an Active Noise Barrier System (능동방음벽 시스템의 제어 음원 위치 선정에 미치는 최적화 기법 성능에 관한 고찰)

  • There have been several kinds of attempts to actively control the deflected noise behind the noise barrier. Omoto's work in 1993 would be one of the fundamental studies, where he placed the control sources uniformly parallel to the noise barrier. Following this study, Yang pointed that the average distance between the noise source and control sources is more important than the arrangement of control sources such as a straight line or an arc type distribution. In 2004, Baek tried to show optimal arrangement of control sources while keeping the average distance between the noise source and control sources. He used simulated annealing algorithm which is one of the natural algorithms for the selections of optimal control source positions, but the searching technique was a hybrid of the simulated annealing and the sequential searching to adapt to the vast amount of searching time. This study is about the performance comparison between the pure sequential searching and the hybrid one. The simulation results show very similar performance and a pure simulated annealing searching will be more beneficial for the noise reduction performance but at the cost of computing time.

A Study on the Decision of the Interface Height in Compartment Fire (건물화재시 경계면 선정에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this research is to study on the decision of the interface height in a room in case of trashcan, chair, carpet and sofa as a fire starter in a residential room by performing the experimental studies. For the decision of the interface height, the temperatures of various positions in fire room are measured and the averaged temperatures are calculated from these measured temperatures every time and height. The temperatures of all positions in fire room are obtained as the basis of the measured temperatures and the middle point of the highest temperature slope is decided as the interface point. The interface heights were distinct and were around 1[m] maintaining constant state. However, at the time of the maximum temperature, the interface height was lowered to 0.25[m]-0.75[m] from the floor.

  • In the cases of the major cities, high poverty rate of the elderly, immature pension policies, and insufficient market conditions, policies and services for the employment of the elderly decrease the desire for the job participation. It is time to prevent the problems of the elderly, and induce the reachable seniors to participate in social activities. This research provides the location-based, customized job-search service for the elderly in order to actively support the participation in the economic activities of the elderly. The goal of SSJS(Smart Senior Job Search) is to provide the individual elderly with the customized position. It prints the appropriate positions near user location based on the residential area, job classification, and the physical condition, and provides the mash-up of the selectable job range in the unit distance based on the map. This customized service, which enables the seniors to select the type of the jobs based on their physical, mental and life conditions of the seniors, supports the participation in economic activities of the elderly people, and contribute to the expansion of the social job positions for the elderly and the equalization of the local development.
