Geofencing supports unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operation by defining stay-in and stay-out regions. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has developed a prototype of the geofencing function, SAFEGUARD, which prevents stayout region violation by utilizing position estimates. Thus, SAFEGUARD depends on navigation system performance, and the safety risk associated with the navigation system uncertainty should be considered. This study presents a methodology to compute the safety risk assessment-based along-track position error bound under nominal and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) failure conditions. A Kalman filter system using pseudorange measurements as well as pseudorange rate measurements is considered for determining the position uncertainty induced by velocity uncertainty. The worst case pseudorange and pseudorange rate fault-based position error bound under the GNSS failure condition are derived by applying a Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitor (RAIM). Position error bound simulations are also conducted for different GNSS fault hypotheses and constellation conditions with a GNSS/INS integrated navigation system. The results show that the proposed along-track position error bounds depend on satellite geometries caused by UAV attitude change and are reduced to about 40% of those of the single constellation case when using the dual constellation.
This paper contains a precise calibration technique for the position of seabed acoustic target and theoretical error analysis of calibration results. The target is deployed on seabed as a standalone transponder. The purpose of target is performing accuracy test for active sonar as well as position calibration itself. For the position calibration, relative range between target and test vessel should be measured using target's transponder function. The relative range data combined with vessel position can be converted into a estimated position of target by the application of nonlinear LSE method. The error analysis of position calibration was divided into two stages. One is for relative range estimator and the other for target position estimator. Numerical simulations for position calibration showed good matching between results and developed CRLB.
In this paper, the error compensation method of the low-cost IMU is proposed. In general, the position and attitude error calculated by accelerometers and gyros grows with time. Therefore the additional information is required to compensate the drift. The attitude angles can be bound accelerometer mixing algorithm and the heading angle can be aided by single antenna GPS velocity. The Kalman filter is used for error compensation. The result is verified by comparing with the attitude calculated and dynamics position determination by Attitude Heading Reference System with Micro Electro Mechanical System for a basis

In this paper, a new-type Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is proposed as a robust nonlinear filter for a stochastic nonlinear system. The original EKF is widely used for various nonlinear system applications. But it is fragile to its estimation errors because they give rise to linearization errors that affect the system mode1 as the modeling errors. The linearization errors are nonlinear functions of the estimation errors therefore it is very difficult to obtain the accurate error covariance of the EKF using the linear form. The inaccurately estimated error covariance hinders the EKF from being a sub-optimal estimator. The proposed filter tries to obtain the upper bound of the error covariance tolerating the uncertainty of the error covariance instead of trying to obtain the accurate one. It treats the linearization errors as uncertain modeling errors that can be handled by the robust linear filtering. In order to be more robust to the estimation errors than the original EKF, the proposed filter minimizes the upper bound like the robust linear filter that is applied to the linear model with uncertainty. The in-flight alignment problem of the inertial navigation system with GPS position measurements is a good example that the proposed robust filter is applicable to. The simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed filter in the robustness to initial estimation errors of the filter.
This paper presents a non-regressor based adaptive control scheme for the trajectory tracking of underwater vehicle-mounted manipulator systems(UVMS). The adaptive control system includes a class of unmodeled effects is applied to the trajectory control of an UVMS. The only information required to implement this scheme ios the upper bound and lowe bound of the system parameter matrices the upper bound of unmodeled effects the number of joints the position and attitude of the vehicle and trajectory commands. The adaptive control law estimates control gains defined by the combinations of the bounded constants of system parameter matrices and of a filtered error equation. To evaluate the performance of the non-regressor based adaptive controller computer simulation was performed with a two-link planar robot model mounted on an underwater vehicle. The hydrodynamic effects acting on the manipulator are included. It is assumed that the vehicle's motion is slow and can be predicted with a proper compensator.
In this paper we theoretically analyze the probability of error for M-ary pulse position modulation (PPM) ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple access system using Gaussian monopulse. The optimum detection of UWB signals using M-ary orthogonal PPM in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multiple access interference (MAI) is considered, then receiver signal to noise power ratio (SNR) and upper bound fur the bit error rate (BER) are derived. Numerical results considering some practical parameters are presented.
Sound source localization method based on the time delay of arrival(TDOA) is applied to many research fields such as a robot auditory system, teleconferencing and so on. When multi-microphones are utilized to localize the source in 3 dimensional space, the conventional localization methods based on TDOA decide the actual source position using the TDOAs from all microphone arrays and the detection measure, which represents the errors between the actual source position and the estimated ones. Performance of these methods usually depends on the number of microphones because it determines the resolution of an estimated position. In this paper, we proposed the localization method using spatially mapped GCC functions. The proposed method does not use just TDOA for localization such as previous ones but it uses spatially mapped GCC functions which is the cross correlation function mapped by an appropriate mapping function over the spatial coordinate. A number of the spatially mapped GCC functions are summed to a single function over the global coordinate and then the actual source position is determined based on the summed GCC function. Performance of the proposed method for the noise effect and estimation resolution is verified with the real environmental experiment. The mean value of estimation error of the proposed method is much smaller than the one based on the conventional ones and the percentage of correct estimation is improved by 30% when the error bound is ${\pm}20^{\circ}$.

In the case of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a GNSS sensor, a boundary line where the vehicle can actually exist can be calculated using a navigation error model, and safe navigation (e.g., precise landing and collision prevention) can be supported based on this boundary line. Therefore, for the safe operation of UAV, a model for the position error of UAV needs to be established in advance. In this study, the multipath error of a GNSS sensor installed at UAV was modeled through a flight test, and this was analyzed and compared with the error model of an existing manned aircraft. The flight test was conducted based on a scenario in which UAV performs hovering at an altitude of 40 m, and it was found that the multipath error value was well bound by the error model of an existing manned aircraft. This result indicates that the error model of an existing manned aircraft can be used in operation environments similar to the scenario for the flight test. Also, in this study, a scenario for the operation of multiple UAVs was considered, and the correlation between the multipath errors of the UAVs was analyzed. The result of the analysis showed that the correlation between the multipath errors of the UAVs was not large, indicating that the multipath errors of the UAVs cannot be canceled out.
