  • The specification of dorsal/ventral axis in the egg of Xenopus laevis was investigated as a series of oblique orientation to gravity by tilt and clinostat. The results are as follows. (1) If the eggs were oriented, in the early period after fertilization, to novel gravity by $15^\\circ, 30^\\circ, 45^\\circ$ and $60^\\circ$ tilt until gastrula stage, the site of involution was usually formed in the OpG side (the side opposing gravity). As the degree of tilt was raised from $15^\\circ to 60^\\circ$, the rate of relocation of the involution site was proportionally increased. (2) When UV-irradiated eggs were tilted period to first cleavage by $15^\\circ, 30^\\circ, 45^\\circ$ and $6\^\\circ$, the effect of UV syndrome was rescued, and the extent of rescue was propotional to the tilt degree. (3) The fertile eggs were loaded on the clinostats of several speeds. In the range of low speeds between $0.45 \\sim 9.0$ rph, the location of dorsal lip was dependent on the direction of rotation, and in $40 \\sim 360$ rph, lip was formed at a random position. In addition, some of the tadpoles experienced with clinostat showed the typical syndrome of "dorsal axis reduction". The above results were discussed regarding the mechanism of the establishment of dorsal/ventral palarity. palarity.

  • The light source is an important visual component that empirically affects the color and illumination of graphic objects, and it is necessary to precisely store and appropriately employ the information of all light sources in the real world in order to obtain photo-realistic composition results. The information of real light sources can be accurately stored in HDR environment maps; however, it is impossible to create new environment maps corresponding to dynamic virtual light sources from a single HDR environment map captured under a fixed lighting situation. In this paper, we present a technique to dynamically generate well-matched information for arbitrarily selected virtual light sources using HDR environment maps created under predefined lighting position and orientation. Using the information obtained from light intensity and distribution analysis, our technique automatically generates HDR environment maps for virtual light sources via image interpolation. By applying the interpolated environment maps to an image-based lighting technique, we show that virtual light can create photo-realistically rendered images for graphic models.

  • 3D data are in great demand for pedestrian navigation recently. For pedestrian navigation, we needs to reconstruct 3D model in detail from people's eye. In order to present spatial features in detail for pedestrian navigation, it is indispensable to develop 3D model not only in outdoor environment but also in indoor environment such as underground shopping complex. However, it is very difficult to acquire 3D data efficiently by mobile mapping without GPS. In this research, 3D shape was acquired by Laser scanner, and texture by CCD(Charge Coupled Device) sensor. Continuous changes position and attitude of sensors were measured by IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit). Moreover, IMU was corrected by relative orientation of CCD images without GPS(Global Positioning System). In conclusion, Reliable, quick, and handy method for acquiring 3D data for indoor environment is proposed by a combination of a digital camera and a laser scanner with IMU.

  • In this paper, we develop a gesture-based input device equipped with accelerometers and gyroscopes. The sensors measure the inertial measurements, i.e., accelerations and angular velocities produced by the movement of the system when a user is inputting gestures on a plane surface or in a 3D space. The gyroscope measurements are integrated to give orientation of the device and consequently used to compensate the accelerations. The compensated accelerations are doubly integrated to yield the position of the device. With this approach, a user's gesture input trajectories can be recovered without any external sensors. Three versions of motion tracking algorithms are provided to cope with wide spectrum of applications. Then, a Bayesian network based recognition system processes the recovered trajectories to identify the gesture class. Experimental results convincingly show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed gesture input device. In order to show practical use of the proposed input method, we implemented a prototype system, which is a gesture-based remote controller (Magic Wand).

  • The palynological characters of 14 taxa of 4 genera (Cynanchum, Metaplexis, Tylophora, Marsdenia) in Asclepiadoideae were observed and measured using SM and SEM. The orientation and granulate surface patterns of the pollinia were important characters for delimitating the genera. The position of the attachment of the translator arms to the pollinia, considered to be an important character for recognizing the above genera, was an overlapping character among the genera and can therefore be utilized only as taxonomy at the species level. Also, we found for the first time that only Tylophora floribunda has an incised margin of the corpusculum. The quantitative characters of the pollinia, arms and corpusculum were useful keys for the delimitation of the species.

  • Ectopic eruption is defined as the eruption of the tooth in an abnormal position or orientation. In the molar region, ectopic eruption may cause distal root resorption and premature exfoliation of the neighbor teeth and uncontrolled space loss is followed. Prolonged partial impaction of the permanent molar may also cause undetected caries or abscess formation of the neighbor teeth. While 66% of ectopically erupting permanent molars are corrected spontaneously without treatment, the treatment is necessary for the irreversible ectopic eruption cases. The optimal treatment approach depends on a number of factors including the clinical eruption status of the molar, amount of enamel ledge and the mobility of the neighbor tooth, and the presence of pain or infection. This case report presents the results of treatment of the ectopically erupting maxillary first permanent molars and mandibular second molars using elastic separators or modified Halterman appliance with or without surgical approach.

  • There is various points that should be improved in Fairness such as our contract practice to propose construction projects, project managing and the stakeholders' way of thinking and culture. We consider that the revision of construction related provisions and systems is required but even more, an overall change in business management through the implementation of Integrated Construction Information Management System that will enable the owner, which drives the project, and contractor sharing construction information is required. To mange construction related information in an integrated manner, designing information should be smoothly transferred to purchasing information, and changes are required in order to move ahead to process-oriented work system. Finally information created from various construction organizations should be delivered in an aligned and standardized manner as well. The domestic Nuclear Power Plant Construction has been accepting various technology transfers from U.S, France, Canada and UK, which enabled us to self-support technology and recently even proceeded to the phase exporting our technology to others. However, continuous effort is required to improve internal business efficiency and to respond to external environmental change such aselectricity market deregulation. Recently, in accordance with the result in number of CEO's intention to make progress in IT and improve business efficiency, the number of enterprises introducing Enterprise Resource Planning is increasing. ERP is an innovative tool which changes the way of performing work from organization and department orientation to process-orientation in order to optimize the resources, such as human and material resources, through out the Enterprise by performing BPR which will maximize overall business efficiency of the enterprise, such includes not only construction management, but also business management. KHNP continued to performing large scaled construction projects such as nuclear power plant construction for past 30 years and took the initiatives of large scale project management and Quality management ability in domestic industry by having independent capability of over all construction planning, purchasing and, construction and start up management etc. To maintain our leading position of improving construction management technology based on our accumulated project management experience and technology, KHNP included construction into our ERP project in purpose of innovating construction business. We would like to discuss the characteristics of nuclear construction business, project management system, information system infrastructure and information sharing system among construction related entities, and implementation practices for information system, and consider how to resolve our practice that should be improved in this thesis.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of clothes in modem Korean women in terms of a socioeconomical background, the introduction to western clothes, and the improvement of clothes between the opening period of ports in the early 1900's and 1960's. In addition, the study investigated how western clothes became popular in a Korean society along with the traditional' Korean clothes, Hanbok. The radical social change since the opening of ports motivated the change in the way of Korean women's thinking, and consequenty the improvement of Hanbok which developed into the clothes-improvement-movement. It was not until 1905 that the improvement of clothes was hotly debated particularly in the matter of abolishing Jangeui and the extreme length of Jeogori and Chima. The Tongchima-Jeogori style which lengthened Jeogori and shortened Chima was widely accepted as everyday wear until the western clothes substituted them after the Independence from Japanese Conquest. As the length of Chima shortened, there occurred a change in Boson and Jipsin as well. There appeared shoes and Gomoosin in place of Jipsin, socks in stead of Boson and were popularized until after the Liberation in 1945. The popularity of Gomoosin diminished markedly with the diversification of shoes styles, due to the improvement of the standard of living with economic development in the 1960's. The traditional Hanbok was gradually differentiated according to the social status, for instance student, teachers, ordinary women, girls and Kisaeng. Especially since the white clothes caused much trouble in washing and sewing, there came into being the movement of wearing colorful clothes. The Movement of abolishing white clothes and promoting of wearing colorful clothes was enforced during the period of Japaness conquest from the 1920's to the Liberation, which consequently stimulated an interest for colors of clothes. The period under the war between 1937 and 1945 was especially noted for the extreme regulation over the clothes. The Japanese government forced each group of women, e.g., girl students, a young women's association, school teachers, and ordinary women and girls, to wear their own uniforms. Also, It recommended the use of Tongchima in stead of long skirts, and buttons in place of Coreum so as to conserve textile encouraging the use of other substitutes to save resources. The western clothes, a model of clothe's improvement was deemed as a symbol of modernization and enjoyed general popularity. The supply of relief clothes after the Korean war accelerated the expansion of western clothes even further and the trend of westernization along with economic progress in the 1960's resulted in wearing of western clothes as everyday dress. The expansion of western clothes as casual wear rapidly diminished wearing of Hanbok which in turn took the position of ceremonial dress worn in special cases only. Hence the Korean women's clothes were dualized into traditional Hanbok and western clothes and the western clothes that stems on its convenience was settled as everyday wear where as the Hanbok appeared as ceremonial dress stressing on ornamental features. As mentioned aboved, we are able to discovered an orientation in the course of transitional process of modern Korean women's clothes admist diversified changes, which is a consistent pursuit of convenience and practicality based upon progmatism. The trend such as this carne into a finale' as women's dress became dualistic in forms of Hanbok and western clothes, and the change since then is supposed to proceed in two forms of dress featuring its own style.

  • The process equipment for handling high level radioactive materials like spent fuels is operated in a hot cell, due to high radioactivity. Thus, this equipment should be maintained and repaired optimally by a remotely operated manipulator. The master-slave manipulators(MSM) are widely used as a remote handling device in the hot cell. The equipment in the hot cell should be optimally placed within the workspace of the wall-mounted slave manipulator for the maintenance operation. But, because of the complexity in the hot cell, there would be some parts of the equipment that are not reached by the MSM. In this study, the maintenance process for these parts of the equipment is developed using virtual prototyping technology. To analyze the workspace of the maintenance device in the hot cell and to develop the maintenance processes for the process equipment, the virtual mock-up of the hot cell for the spent fuel handling process is implemented using IGRIP. For the implementation of the virtual mock-up, the parts of the equipment and maintenance devices such as the MSM and servo manipulator are modeled and assembled in 3-D graphics, and the appropriate kinematics are assigned. Also, the virtual workcell of the spent fuel management process is implemented in the graphical environment, which is the same as the real environment. Using this mock-up, the workspace of the manipulators in the hot cell and the operator's view through the wall-mounted lead glass are analyzed. Also, for the dedicated maintenance operation, the analyses for the detailed area of the end effectors in accordance with the slave manipulator's position and orientation are carried out. The parts of the equipment that are located outside of the MSM's workspace are specified and the maintenance process of the parts using the servo manipulator that is mounted in the hot cell is proposed. To monitor the process in the hot cell remotely, the virtual display system by a virtual camera in the virtual work cell is also proposed. And the graphic simulation using a virtual mock-up is performed to verify the proposed maintenance process. The maintenance process proposed in this study can be effectively used in the real hot cell operation and the implemented virtual mock-up can be used for analyzing the various hot cell operations and enhancing the reliability and safety of the spent fuel management.

  • There are many efforts to mechanize the process for underwater port construction due to the severe and adverse working environment. This paper presents an underwater construction robot to level rubbles on the seabed for port construction. The robot is composed of a blade and a multi-functional arm to flatten the rubble mound with respect to the reference level at uneven terrain and to dig and dump the rubbles. This research analyzes the kinematics of the blade and the multi-functional arm including track and swing motions with respect to a world coordinate assigned to a reference depth sensor. This analysis is conducted interfacing with the position and orientation sensors installed at the robot. A hydraulic control system is developed to control a track, a blade and a multi-functional arm for rubble leveling work. The experimental results of rubble leveling work conducted by the robot are presented in land and subsea. The working speed of the robot is eight times faster than that of a human diver, and the working quality is acceptable. The robot is expected to have much higher efficiency in deep water where a human diver is unable to work.
