The proposed method, capable of predicting various stress-strain responses in axially loaded concrete confined with FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymers) composites in a rational manner, is based on the fact that the volumetric expansion due to progressive microcracking in mechanically loaded concrete is an important measure of the extent of damage in the material microstructure. The elastic modulus expressed as a function of area strain and concrete porosity, the energy-balance equation relating the dilating concrete to the confining device interactively, the varying confining pressure, and an incremental calculation algorithm are included in the solution procedure. This procedure enables the evaluation of lateral strains consecutively according to the related mechanical model and the energy-balance equation, rather than using an empirically derived equation for Poisson's ratio or dilation rate as in other analytical methods.

A three-dimensional coupled turbulent fluid flow and solidification process were analyzed in a continuous casting process of a steel slab with Electromagnetic Brake(EMBR). A revised low-Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model was used to consider the turbulent effects. The enthalpy-porosity relation was employed to suppress the velocity within a mushy region. The electromagnetic field was described by Maxwell equations. Tile application of EMBR to the mold region results in the decrease of the transfer of superheat to the narrow face, the increase of temperature in free surface region and most liquid of submold region, and the higher temperature gradient near the solidifying shell. The increasing magnetic flux density effects mainly to the surface temperature of the solidifying shell of narrow face, hardly to the one of wide face. It is seen that in the presence of EMBR a thicker solidifying shell is obtained at the narrow face of the slab.

When a high-speed railway train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of the train and propagates through the tunnel, compressing and accelerating the rest air in front of the wave. At the exit of the tunnel, an impulsive wave is emitted outward toward the surrounding, which causes a positive impulsive noise like a kind of sonic boom produced by a supersonic aircraft. With the advent of high-speed train, such an impulsive noise can be large enough to cause the noise problem, unless some attempts are made to alleviate its pressure levels. In the purpose of the impulsive noise reduction, the present study calculated the effect of porous walls on the compression wave propagating into a model tunnel. Two-dimensional unsteady compressible equations were differenced by using a Piecewise Linear Method. Calculation results show that the cavity/porous wall system is very effective for a compression wave with a large nonlinear effect. The porosity of 30% is most effective for the reduction of the maximum pressure gradient of the compression wave front. The present calculation results are in a good agreement with experimental ones obtained previously.

This work is devoted to the study of fresh and hardened properties of concrete containing recycled gravel. Four formulations were studied, the concrete of reference and three concretes containing recycled gravel with 30, 65 and 100 % replacement ratios. All materials were formulated on the basis of S4 class of flowability and a target C35 class of compressive strength according to the standard EN 206-1. The paper first presents the mix design method which was based on the optimization of cementitious paste and granular skeleton, then discusses experimental results. The results show that the elastic modulus and the tensile strength decrease while the peak strain in compression increases. Correlation with the water porosity is also established. The validity of analytical expressions proposed by Eurocode 2 is also discussed. The obtained results, together with results from the literature, show that these relationships do not predict adequately the mechanical properties as well as the stress-strain curve of tested materials. New expressions were established to predict the elastic modulus and the peak strain from the compressive strength of natural concrete. It was found that the proposed relationship E-$f_c$ is applicable for any type of concrete while the effect of substitution has to be introduced into the stress-strain (${\varepsilon}_{c1}-f_c$) relationship for recycled aggregate concrete. For the full stress-strain curve, the model of Carreira and Chu seems more adequate.
In this research, bending and buckling analyses of porous functionally graded (FG) plate under mechanical load are presented. The properties of the FG plate vary gradually across the thickness according to power-law and exponential functions. The material imperfection is considered to vary depending to a logarithmic function. The plate is modeled by a refined trigonometric shear deformation theory where the use of the shear correction factor is unnecessary. The governing equations of the FG plate are derived via virtual work principle and resolved via Navier solutions. The accuracy of the present model is checked by comparing the obtained results with those found in the literature. The various effects influencing the stresses, displacements and critical buckling loads of the plate are also examined and discussed in detail.
Numerical simulations are made for the three-dimensional flow around a wing in ground effect craft haying the complex geometry. A numerical tool is developed for the primary design of hull and wing shape of practical Wing-In-Ground effect(WIG) stop. The finite-difference method is utilized to descretize the governing equations and pressure field is obtained by using Marker-And-Cell(MAC) method. The air and water flows are simultaneously simulated in the time-marching solution procedure for the Navier-Stokes equation. The porosity technique and the density function are devised for the implementation of the three-dimensional body-boundary and the free-surface conditions, respectively. In this paper, a craft is modeled simply by three blocks containing a wing mounted on a main body horizontally, with the endplate. The numerical calculations of a WIG advancing in a calm water are performed and the WIG-generated wave profiles are also obtained. In the final paper, details of the numerical methods employed for the present study and calculated results are discussed.

When a high-speed railway train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of the train and propagates along the tunnel, compressing and accelerating the rest air in front of the wave. In the purpose of the impulsive noise reduction, the present study tested the effect of porous walls on the compression wave propagating into a model tunnel. Experimental results were obtained using a shock tube with an open end. The results showed that the cavity/porous wall is very effective for the compression wave with a large nonlinear effect. The porosity of 30% is most effective for attenuation and pressure gradient reduction of the compression wave front. Also the impulsive noise reduction increases with increasing the length and height of the cavity, compared with the tunnel equivalent diameter.
In this research, the buckling analysis of sandwich beam with composite reinforced by graphene platelets (GPLs) in two face sheets is investigated. Three type various porosity patterns including uniform, symmetric and asymmetric are considered through the thickness direction of the core. Also, the top and bottom face sheets layers are considered composite reinforced by GPLs/CNTs based on Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model and extended mixture rule, respectively. Based on various shear deformation theories such as Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy beam theories, the governing equations of equilibrium using minimum total potential energy are obtained. It is seen that the critical buckling load decreases with an increase in the porous coefficient, because the stiffness of sandwich beam reduces. Also, it is shown that the critical buckling load for asymmetric distribution is lower than the other cases. It can see that the effect of graphene platelets on the critical buckling load is higher than carbon nanotubes. Moreover, it is seen that the difference between carbon nanotubes and graphene platelets for Reddy and Euler-Bernoulli beam theories is most and least, respectively.
This paper deals with the characteristics of reinforcement corrosion in concrete beams under the influence of sustained loads. The evolution and distribution laws of the reinforcement corrosion were measured periodically over time. The results show that sustained load exhibits a pronounced exacerbating effect on the reinforcement corrosion, and enlarges the nonuniformity level of corrosion as the load level increases. Accompanied with the continuous formation of the rust, the corrosion rate was also observed to be highly nonlinear and time-dependent. Moreover, to visually and quantitatively analyze the distribution of reinforcement corrosion, the 3D scanning technology combined with the probability statistics analysis was adopted, and the observed nonuniformity can be well described by the Gumbel distribution. Finally, an approach based on the three-phase spherical model was proposed to estimate the reinforcement corrosion, taking account of the effects of sustained load on the changes of concrete porosity and oxygen diffusivity.

Poroelastic analyses of fiber-reinforced composites were performed using image-based computational models. The section image of a porous matrix was analyzed in order to investigate the porosity, number of pores, and distribution of pores. The resolution, location, and size of the section image were considered to quantify the effective elastic modulus, poroelastic parameter, and strain energy density using the image-based computational models. The poroelastic parameter was calculated from the effective elastic modulus and pore pressure-induced strain. In addition, the results of the poroelastic analyses were verified through representative volume elements by simplifying various pore configurations and arrangements.
