  • Electronic monitoring system was recently introduced as an effective means of controlling certain criminal offenders. Korean society manages ex-convicts only in reliance on the electronic monitoring system, which has a clear limit. For this reason, The reorientation program should be put before anything to subdivide the perpetrators equipped with the electronic monitoring device and separate them from the others from the start, or identify their criminal propensity and heal them.

  • Air quality monitoring networks are very important facilities to manage urban air pollution control and to set up an environmental policy. Since air quality monitoring network of Daegu was allocated from 1980s to mid-90s, there is need to reevaluate it and relocated its site. This study was evaluated the position of Daegu air quality monitoring station by unit environmental sensitivity index, grid emission rate, CAI (Comprehensive Air-quality Index) point. The investigation domain covered an area of 16 $\times$ 24 km centered at the metropolitan area of Daegu with grid spacing of 2 km. The location of alternative air quality monitoring networks was selected through optimization and quintiles analysis of total score. The result showed that all things considered, new air quality monitoring network need to install grid numbers 10, 28, 36, 37, 46. We also recommand three scenarios of alternative air quality monitoring network when considering unit environmental sensitivity index, emission rate and CAI point.

  • This study purports to develop a quality assessment tool for the process of health promotion programs at public health centers(PHC). The draft of the assessment tool developed by the literature was distributed to 242 staffs who were in charge of the health promotion programs at PHCs for evaluating the feasibility of the tool on September and October 2002. The major results of the study were as follows; The quality assessment tool developed in the study consisted of four domains: strategic planning, program management, monitoring and evaluation, and resources and information. The strategic planning dealt with the function of the planning staff and committees, community data analysis, the feasibility of the program, and the approach methods for attaining the goal of the program. The program management included the items on the qualification and power of the program staff. The monitoring and evaluation included the items on the reporting and communication among program units, and feed back after monitoring. Finally, the resources and information dealt with community networking, clients' response, and consulting activity of the staff. The validity of the tools was tested and partly supported by both formative and criterion-related methods. The assessment tools developed in this study could be used by health promotion workers in the self-evaluation of the program quality. In conclusion, the quality assessment tool developed in the study will be a good safeguard for assuring the quality of the process of health promotion programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of parenting attitudes on writing vicious internet replies and the viewing of internet pornography. This study utilized logistic and multiple regression analyses of the 5th wave(2nd grade in middle school) data from the Korean Youth Panel Study(KYPS), as administered by the National Youth Policy Institute. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, parenting attitudes were found to decrease the writing of vicious internet replies and the viewing of internet pornography. Second, there was a significant gender difference in the effect of parenting attitudes. As for male adolescents, parental monitoring was more important in the decrease in writing vicious internet replies and the viewing of internet pornography than parental attachment. In contrast, for female adolescents, parental attachment was more important in decreasing the viewing of internet pornography than parental monitoring. On the basis of these results, several implications for youth welfare practice and policy were suggested.

  • Commercial remote-sensing is one of the applied fields of space activities which, like telecommunications but to a lesser extent, is in the process of recording a reapid rate of development. Fields of utilization for spatial imagery are numerous: ocean monitoring, crops monitoring, glaciology, meteorlogy, forestry, environmental watch, geology, etc. All those fields of interest could be gathered under the generic name of "earth-watching activities" which is somewhat larger than "remote-sensing." This article aims at presenting to Korean readers the main lines of development of five major players in the field, namely : the USA, France, Japan, Europe and Canada. This is not to exclude the role played by other active players such as the former USSR and other smaller though industrious space powers.

  • Autonomous radiation source detection has long been studied for radiation emergencies. Compared to conventional data-driven or path planning methods, deep reinforcement learning shows a strong capacity in source detection while still lacking the generalized ability to the geometry in unknown environments. In this work, the detection task is decomposed into two subtasks: exploration and localization. A hierarchical control policy (HC) is proposed to perform the subtasks at different stages. The low-level controller learns how to execute the individual subtasks by deep reinforcement learning, and the high-level controller determines which subtasks should be executed at the current stage. In experimental tests under different geometrical conditions, HC achieves the best performance among the autonomous decision policies. The robustness and generalized ability of the hierarchy have been demonstrated.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of parental monitoring on the relationship between children's dependency on mobile phones and control of learning behavior. The data came from the 2010 Korean Children and Youth Panel (N = 1,609) conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. The analysis method used was Structural Equation Modeling by using SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 7.0. To test the significant moderating effects, Ping's two-step technique, which is free from the requirement of nonlinear constraints, was used. Our results demonstrated that children's dependency on mobile phones had negative effects on control of learning behavior, and the interaction effects between such dependency and parental monitoring affected the control of learning behavior. Thus, these results proved the moderating effects of parental monitoring in the control of learning behavior. This study suggests that parental monitoring buffers against having difficulties to control and adjust one's behavior associated with control of learning behavior, which is affected by the dependency on mobile phones among children. We discussed that the risks of children's dependency on mobile phones and parental monitoring should be acknowledge as a significant protective factor.
