  • The IESF(Integral Error and State Feedback) controller, which incorporates state feedback as a modern control scheme and integral action as a classical control scheme, has better performance than that of the conventional PID controller in linear time-invariant systems. The IESF controller requires the measurement of all the state variables. But, unfortunately, it may be difficult or impossible to measure all state variables in many applications. And the IESF controller is applicable only to pole-assignable linear time-invariant system without time delay. In this paper, new IESF controller structure was proposed which performs feedback with only measurable state variables. In order to estimate the unmeasurable state variables. It was adopted the filter mode by full-order obserber. The good performance and effectiveness of the proposed controller was confirmed by computer simulation.

  • This paper compares the control techniques for position control experiments of a fixible robot moving in a vertical plane. The flexible manipulator is modeled as an Euler-beroulli beam. Elastic deformantion is representedusing the assumed model method. A comparison function which satisfies all geometric and natural boundary conditions of a cantilever beam with an end mass is used as an assumed mode shape. Lagrange's equation is utilized for the development of a discretized model. Control schemes are developed using PID control, pole placement control and discrete Linear Quadratic Regulater(LQQ). The effectiveness of the developed control schems are compared using computer simulation in view of practical experiment. The simulation results show that PID control is very effective in practical implementation.

  • This paper represents the study of an effective self-tuning PID control for a robot manipulator to track a reference trajectory in spite of the presence of nonlinearities and parameters uncertainties in robot dynamic models. In this control scheme, an error model of the manipulator is established, for the first time, by difference between joint reference trajectory and tracked trajectory. It's model Parameters are estimated by the recursive least-square identification algorithm, and classical controller parameters are determined by pole placement method. A computer simulation study was conducted to demonstrate performance of the proposed self-tuning PID control in joint-based coordinates for a robot with payload.

  • A controller described in this paper is designed for implicit generalised minimum varience controller with variable time delays in which the weighting polynominals are calculated to reduce the output and control signals variances. This paper is based on the fact that the pole-assigment equation may have multiple solutions if the weighting polynominals are not of minimal order. It is shown that the larger order of the weighting polynominals increment the better is the stochastic behavior of the closed-loop system with variable time delays without changs in the deterministic behavior of the system. Based on this theory, the controller is applied to position control of a three-link manipulater with parameter uncertainty.

  • This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of novel 2-phase 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) with short flux path for an air-blower application. The desired air-blower is unidirectional application, and requires a wide positive torque region without torque dead-zone. In order to get a wide positive torque region without torque dead-zone during phase commutation, asymmetric inductance characteristic with non-uniform air-gap is considered. The proposed motor could be started at any rotor position with high efficiency drive. The proposed 2-phase 4/3 SRM is verified by finite element method analysis.

  • A suspending force control based on fuzzy logic control is proposed to apply on a novel hybrid bearingless switched reluctance motor(BLSRM) which has separated torque and suspending force pole. Due to the unique structure, the suspending force control system can be easily decoupled from torque control system. In this paper, two fuzzy controller targeted at x-axis direction and y-axis direction are adopted to maintain the shaft at center position, which is very necessary for stable operation of BLSRM. By replacing the traditional PI block with modified fuzzy logic controller, the suspending system can behave a good performance, and the proposed scheme can be verified by simulation results.

  • Pneumatic driving systems have hard non-linear characteristic and large friction force compared with driving power. Hence, it cannot be robust against parameter uncertainties, modelling error, disturbance and noise. In this study, we apply a mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control to the generalized plant for a pneumatic driving apparatus system including parameter uncertainty and disturbance. In order to design the $H_2/H_{\infty}$ controller, we use the LMI technique. To evaluate control performance and robust stability of the designed controller, we compare it with a conventional controller such as PVA(Position-Velocity-Acceleration state controller) using the simulation results. As a result, it can be known that designed controller shows better robust stability than the conventional controller.

  • Because of high torque and easiness of speed control, Direct Current(DC) motors are used long time. But, its applications are limited in circumstance and performance, since they contained brush and commutator. The commutation characteristic gives effect to life and performance of DC motor. Naturally, the commutation characteristic analysis is strongly required. In this paper, With the result of finite element analysis. The inductance is calculated each rotor position and applied to the voltage equations coupled with commutation equation. The time derivative term in the differential equation is solved in time difference method. This algorithm was applied to 2-pole shunt DC motor. We considered commutation characteristic by changing contact resistance between brush and commutator segment.

  • Considering the start-up and economical efficiency, the optical sensor technique using a slotted-disk and an opto-interrupter are appropriate, however, this method needs three opto-interrupters and a slotted-disk when driving the 6/4 pole SRM(switched reluctance motor). In this paper, we propose an economic method by replacing the conventional opto-interrupter and slotted-disk with only optical sensor which enables the motor to start up and forward and reverse operation. Also the control circuit includes only analog devices, which makes the process more economical.
