  • The present study focuses on examining the structural behaviour of steel-fibre-reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams under high rates of loading largely associated with impact problems. Fibres are added to the concrete mix to enhance ductility and energy absorption, which is important for impact-resistant design. A simple, yet practical non-linear finite-element analysis (NLFEA) model was used in the present study. Experimental static and impact tests were also carried out on beams spanning 1.3 meter with weights dropped from heights of 1.5 m and 2.5 m, respectively. The numerical model realistically describes the fully-brittle tensile behaviour of plain concrete as well as the contribution of steel fibres to the post-cracking response (the latter was allowed for by conveniently adjusting the constitutive relations for plain concrete, mainly in uniaxial tension). Suitable material relations (describing compression, tension and shear) were selected for SFRC and incorporated into ABAQUS software Brittle Cracking concrete model. A more complex model (i.e., the Damaged Plasticity concrete model in ABAQUS) was also considered and it was found that the seemingly simple (but fundamental) Brittle Cracking model yielded reliable results. Published data obtained from drop-weight experimental tests on RC and SFRC beams indicates that there is an increase in the maximum load recorded (compared to the corresponding static one) and a reduction in the portion of the beam span reacting to the impact load. However, there is considerable scatter and the specimens were often tested to complete destruction and thus yielding post-failure characteristics of little design value and making it difficult to pinpoint the actual load-carrying capacity and identify the associated true ultimate limit state (ULS). To address this, dynamic NLFEA was employed and the impact load applied was reduced gradually and applied in pulses to pinpoint the actual failure point. Different case studies were considered covering impact loading responses at both the material and structural levels as well as comparisons between RC and SFRC specimens. Steel fibres were found to increase the load-carrying capacity and deformability by offering better control over the cracking process concrete undergoes and allowing the impact energy to be absorbed more effectively compared to conventional RC members. This is useful for impact-resistant design of SFRC beams.

  • In this paper, the estimation of dynamic interlaminar fracture toughness on fracture mode II in CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminates in made. Dynamic ENF(End Notched Flexure) apparatus used in this paper is manufactured by suing Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar. The static and impact load history in the CFRP specimen is measured by using manufactured dynamic ENF tester and 3-point bending test is carried out to find the load history. Also dynamic interlaminar fracture toughness can be found by using the J integral obrained from dynamic analysis in consideration of intertia-force effect.

  • Similar to regression, many measures to detect influential data points in discriminant analysis have been developed. Many follow similar principles as the diagnostic measures used in linear regression in the context of discriminant analysis. Here we focus on the impact on the predicted classification posterior probability when a data point is omitted. The new method is intuitive and easily interpretable compared to existing methods. We also propose a graphical display to show the individual movement of the posterior probability of other data points when a specific data point is omitted. This enables the summaries to capture the overall pattern of the change.

  • Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) transmission / reception is being studied in Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) for future evolution of the $3^{rd}$ Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) LTE. Support of soft handover is essential for improving the performance of cell edge users. CoMP provides a natural framework for enabling soft handover in the LTE system. This paper evaluates the soft handover gain in LTE-A downlink. Mathematical analysis of signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) gain and the handover margins for soft handover and hard handover are derived. CoMP system model is developed and an inter-cell and intra-cell interference model is derived, taking into account the pathloss, shadowing, cell loading, and traffic activity. Reference signal received power (RSRP) is used to define the triggers and the measurements for soft handover. Our results indicate that parameter choices such as handover margin and the CoMP set size impact CoMP performance gain.

  • As software becomes more complex and its scope dramatically increases, the importance of research on developing methods for estimating software development efforts has been increased. Such accurate estimation has a prominent impact on the development projects. To develop accurate effort estimation models, many studies have been conducted among the academia and the practitioners. Out of the numerous methods, Constructive Cost Model (COCOMO) based on Line of Code (LOC), Regression Model based on Function Point (FP) were the most popular models in the past. As today's development environments are dynamically changing, these traditional methods do not work anymore. There is an impending need to develop an accurate estimation model which accommodates itself to the new environments. As a possible solution, this research proposes and evaluates an software development estimation model based on function points and neural networks.

  • In recent, the various methods to predict the hydrological impacts due to climate change have been developed and applied. Especially, the variability of the meteorological factors such as rainfall, temperature, and evaporation can impact on the ecosystem in a basin. The variability caused by climate change on the meteorological factors can be divided by a gradual and abrupt change. Therefore, in this study, the gradual change is detected by simple linear regression and Mann-Kendall trend test. Also, the abrupt change is detected by Bayesian change point analysis. Finally, the result using these methods can identify the meteorological threats in the Cheongmicheon basin.

  • This paper considers the effect of rainfall on non-point source (NPS) pollutant loads. The impact of runoff on the occurrence of NPS pollutants was found to be influenced by rainfall amount, rainfall intensity, and the number of antecedent dry days (ADD), both independently and in combination. The close correlation ($R^2$ = 0.9920) between rainfall and runoff amounts was demonstrated at the study site (a flower farm) over the period between January 2011 and December 2013. The relationships among pollutant levels, runoff, and rainfall was not satisfactory results except for the Biochemical Oxygen Demand ($BOD_5$). The correlation coefficients between $BOD_5$, and both runoff and rainfall, were greater than 0.92. However, the relationships of other pollutants, such as Suspended Solid (SS), Chemical Oxygen Demand ($COD_{Mn}$), Total Nitrogen (TN), and Total Phosphorus (TP), with runoff and rainfall had correlation coefficients of less than 0.70. The roles of rainfall was different from rainfall categories on the occurrence of runoff. Instantaneous rainfall intensity was a principle factor on the occurrence of runoff following light rainfall events (total ${\leq}30mm$). For rainfall of intermediate intensity (total precipitation 31-50 mm), the combined effect of both average rainfall intensity and ADD was found to influence runoff generation. We conclude that the control of NPS pollutants with the reflection of the climate change that makes the remarkable effect of amounts and forms on the rainfall and runoff.

  • In general, spot welding is used at no welding rod or flux for the process, low welding point temperature compared to arc welding, short heating time, less damage to the parent material, and low deformation and residual stress, relatively. Also, because of the pressurization effect, better mechanical qualities of the welding parts are obtained. Therefore, in various fields of industry its rapid operation speed can make mass production possible such as motor industry. In FEM analysis for the spot welding process, it is effective to use simple modeling rather than complicated one because of its numerous number of spots and reduction of analysis time. Therefore, this study provides with not only simplification of modeling analysis by using beam component composition of structure without re-compositing the spot welding point mesh but also modeling analysis of which property of fracture strength is reflected. In addition complete spot welding model is examined at rectangular post shape (hat shape) by impact test, compared the results, and verified its validity. As a result, it is possible to optimize the welding position and to recognize the strength of structure and the proposed equal distance model shows the effect of welding point reduction and improvement of stiffness.

  • This study was to identify the correlation between the degree of burden, stress and social support of family caregivers in ICU patient. The subjects were 146 family care givers observed at a general hospital at D city. The level of stress that family caregivers experience the average points of 2.18, which is considered less than average. The level of burden that average point of 2.51. Points for level of subjective feeling ranged from 1.74 to 3.90. The average point of 3.03 is higher than that for objectively recognized feeling. The points for social support that average point of 3.03 for social support proves that families feel positive about the social support they are receiving. The level of stress which shows that the lower the income, the higher the stress. The effect on stress shows significance in subjective feelings of burden, social support, and employment, indicating that they have correlations with stress. Both the feeling of burden and social support have an impact upon the stress that patient families experience.

  • This work aims to study and analyse the dynamic size dependent behvior of functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FGCNTs) nanoplates embedded in elastic media and subjected to moving point load. The non-classical effect is incorporated into the governing equations using the nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT). Four different reinforcement configurations of the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered to show the effect of reinforcement configuration on the dynamic behvior of the FGCNTs nanoplates. The material characteristics of the functionally graded materials are assumed to be continuously distributed throughout the thickness direction according to the power law. The Hamiltonian principle is exploited to derive the dynamic governing equations of motion and the associated boundary conditions in the framework of the first order shear deformation plate theory. The Navier analytical approach is adopted to solve the governing equations of motion. The obtained solution is checked by comparing the obtained results with the available results in the literature and the comparison shows good agreement. Numerical results are obtained and discussed. Obtained results showed the significant impact of the elastic foundation parameters, the non-classical material parameters, the CNT configurations, and the volume fractions on the free and forced vibration behaviors of the FGCNT nanoplate embedded in two parameters elastic foundation and subjected to moving load.
