  • The radiation of sound from a rectangular plate with a guided edge condition is investigated. By taking this particular boundary condition into account, simple analytical forms of the average radiation efficiency and radiation power based on the modal approach can be found, where the cross-modal terms can average out for all possible point excitation locations. Design variables of the plate such as thickness, aspect ratio, and damping that are closely related to the sound radiation are mainly discussed. The radiation power of the guided plate is found to be governed by the piston mode as well as the critical frequency. While both the radiation efficiency and the radiation power seem to be influenced by thickness and a large aspect ratio, damping loss factor seems less important to the radiation power. It is also shown that no clear corner and edge mode regions may be found for the guided case, unlike the pinned.

  • A numerical model based on a mode method coupling beams and a rectangular plate is proposed to estimate radiation characteristics of an edge-clamped rectangular plate. The radiation efficiency and radiation power in the audio frequency range including the critical frequency can be predicted. The proposed model is rather simple and straightforward and gives reliable results comparing to the previous studies. The estimated radiation characteristics are compared to those of the pinned condition plates and also to those based on the formulae proposed by Maidanik. The radiation efficiency of the clamped plate seems a little higher than that of the pinned plate in the frequency range of corner and edge modes. It is explicitly shown that the power as well as efficiency at high frequencies is not influenced by these edge boundary conditions.

  • Nowadays, source of MEMS, USN, Hybrid parts pay attention to energy harvesting. On this paper, energy harvesting was studied using piezoelectric effect. And, piezoelectric generator was designed and fabricated. Generators were designed by FEM simulation program and generators were made by attaching cymbal type metal plates on upper and bottom sides of a disc type piezoelectric ceramic. Using fabricated generators, output voltages dependant on thickness of ceramic, displacement of vibration, frequency of vibration were measured.

  • This paper describes the vibration characteristics of Nd:YAG laser welding plates analyzed time-average Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI). In laser welding, the travel speed has influence on a mechanical properties, such as elastic modules, response frequencies and so on, which is resulted on a residual stress of the welding zone. the response frequencies related to elastic modules are determined by time-average ESPI and the results, as compared to each condition, are used to estimate optimal condition of travel speed.

  • Dynamic analysis of a plate with non-linearity due to large deformation is performed in the study. There have been many researches about the non-linear dynamic behavior of plates examining by means of theoretical or numerical analyses. But it is important how exactly model the actual system. In this respect, the Continuous-Time system identification technique is used to generate non-linear models, for stiffness and damping terms, to explain the observed behaviors with single mode assumptions for the simplicity after comparing the experimental results with the numerical results of a linear plate model.

  • The potential hazards resulting from a low-velocity impact (bird-strike, tool drop, runway debris, etc.) on aircraft structures, such as engine nacelle or a leading edges, has been a long-term concern to the aircraft industry. Certification authorities require that exposed aircraft components must be tested to prove their capability to withstand low-velocity impact without suffering critical damage. In most of the past research studies unloaded specimens have been used for impact tests, however, in reality it is much more likely that a composite structure is exposed to a certain stress state when it is being impacted, which can have a significant effect on the impact performance. And the radiated impact sound induced by impact is analyzed for the damage detection evaluation. In this study, an investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effect in-plane loading on the impact force and sound of composite laminates numerically.

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the energy dissipation characteristics of viscous damping wall (VDW). VDW is consisted of a plate floating in a thin case made of steel plated filled with highly viscous silicone oil. Because VDW demonstrates both viscous damping and stiffness characteristics, the viscous resisting force can be expressed as the sum of velocity dependant viscous damping force and displacement dependant restoring force. The viscous resisting force and energy absorbing capacity can be easily adjusted by changing three factors, i.e. viscosity of the fluid, gap distance and area of the wall plates. VDW was tested using a series of harmonic (sinusoidal) displacement history having different frequency and amplitude and the force-displacement relationship was recorded. The relationship between dissipated energy with three factors and the influence of exciting frequency on resisting force were Investigated

  • In this paper, floor impact noise reduction in a steel structure is studied. A mock-up is built by using 6t steel plate, and two identical cabins are made where 25t panel is used to construct wall and ceiling inside the steel structure. Various floating floor systems are tested for which normalized impact noise is measured according to ISO 140-7. In addition, floor SBN(Structure-borne Noise) and floor damping are measured to study the effect of floating floor. structure. It is shown that VL(Visco-elastic Layer) is more effective when hard plates are added above the VL.

  • There have been lots of efforts to analyze the dynamic characteristics of mechanical systems. However, it is difficult the know the dynamic characteristics of mechanical systems composed of many parts with joints. Specially, in case of a bolted Joint structure, no effective modeling method has been defined to acquire dynamic characteristics of the structure using the finite element (FE) analysis. In this research, a linear dynamic model is developed for bolted feints and large interfaces using con frusta method and linear spring elements, respectively. The developed modeling method for bolted joints is verified based on the experimental result.

  • A new estimation model of predicting the sound absorption performance for multiple perforated plate sound absorbing system was developed using transfer matrix method. The proposed method was validated by comparing the calculated absorption coefficients of a single layer perforated plate with the values measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method far various porosity and cavity depth. The developed transfer matrix method was further applied to estimate the multiple layer perforated plates and it is shown that the estimated absorption coefficients generally agree well with the measured values.
