This paper is presented for showing the effect of cooling rate on dendrite arm spacing, correlated with the chilling power of molding materials (conventional plaster, foamed plaster, silica sand) and section thickness, and also showing relationship between dendrite arm spacing and mechanical properties for an aluminum - 8.6 percent silicon - 3.6 percent copper alloy. Local solidification time $(t_f)$ and secondary dendrite arm spacing (d) could be varied widely in accordance with the molding materials and casting thickness, and the following relationship is obtained: $d=9.4t_f\;^{0.31}$ A good correlation between dendrite arm spacing and mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, hardness was found, that is, mechanical properties decreased in a linear manner with increase in log of secondary dendrite arm spacing. Ultimate tensile strength in conventional plaster mold casting decreased by 15 percent comparing with the sand casting, where as in foamed plaster mold casting, it decreased by 30 percent comparing with the sand casting. From those results, it has been verified that DAS might be the most representative parameter for predicting mechanical properties varing with the different cooling condition.
This study was conducted to obtain granular crystalline gypsum that can be used as raw material for Plaster boards or cements from waste Plaster board. Gypsum could be Preferentially disintegrated to gypsum needle in $10\mu\textrm{m}$ or less size by hydration after the dehydration of crushed waste Plaster board. The finer the gypsum needle, it is easier to remove coarse impurities and to recover the gypsum needle. The optimum conditions for obtain the finer gypsum size were dehydration rate of 75~85%, solid concentration at hydration of 10~15%, agitation speed of 250~400 rpm, crushing size before dehydration of 2 cm or less. Gypsum of 98.21% grade was recovered with 99.0% yield as the undersize of 325 mesh wet screening followed by the dehydration-hydration process performed at the conditions of dehydration rate of 80%, solid concentration at hydration of 15%, agitation speed of 300 rpm, crushing size before dehydration of 2 cm or less. After the recrystallization of recovered gypsum, Plate-like gypsum of $151\mu\textrm{m}$ size with 99.49% grade was obtained as the oversize of 270 mesh in a wet screening.
This investigation is carried out of inqurie into the effects of the accelerator on the setting time and haedness when it is used with plaster products. Plaster($\beta$), dental hard stone($\alpha$), and limproved dental hard stone($M{\alpha}$) are selected as the objects of the investigation, since they are most common materials for dental plaster products. Setting time is gauged by means of Vicket Needle and Gilmore Needle, and hardness is gauged by means of Brinell and Vicket Hardness machines. Samples of each material are made in the standerd water powder ratio and with the accelerator repectively, Every material is tested five times each. The results of the tests are as fallow : 1) In each case the setting time is shortened when the accelerator is used. 2) Of the three materials the hardness of the plaster was lowest A($\beta$) < B($\alpha$) < C($M{\alpha}$)} 3) In each case the hardness of the samples made in the standard water powder ratio were higher than that of the sample made with the accelerator. A1 > A2 ; B1>B2 ; C1>C2 4) Final Conclusion : Higher quality cast is expected when it is made in the standard water powder ratio.
N.B.R. latex was used as the admixture in order to improve the various properties of gypsum plaster which is widely used as the construction material. The influences of N.B.R. latex on the hydration of gypsum plaster were studied. The results obtained are summerized as follows; 1. The water/gypsum plaster ratio is decreased wth increasing amounts of surfactant (P.O.E. Nonyl Phenol Ether) as the additive. 2. It is the pore of large size (${\gg}$7500A) that is mainly decreased with increasing amounts of surfactant. 3. With the small amount of surfactant as the additive, the hydration was slightly retarded, but was gradually recovered with increasing amounts of surfactant, and their heat of liberation after 20 hours were nearly same.
This study was performed to determine the ideal mixing ratio of toothash and plaster of Paris. The histopathologic and histomorphometric study of bone response of five implant materials, toothash(Group A), tooth and plaster mixture, mixing ratio due to weight 2 : 1(Group B), 3 : 1(Group C), 4 : 1(Group D), and plaster Paris(Group E), were performed in rat calvarial defect. No sign of extensive inflammatory reaction was defected. Newly-formed bony ingrowth occurred in all experimental groups except for group E at 12 weeks after operation. Bone was deposited directly on the surface of implant materials. The highest rate of direct bony union between implant material and newly-formed bone occurred with the group B, followed group C, D, and A.
Nowadays, energy-saving has become important in the construction industry. Above all things, outside insulation on buildings is important in measure of energy-saving. However, its insulation performance is degraded by the problem of that Cement-polymer modified waterproof coatings are used mostly for covering plaster mortar. In this study, we examine the optimum size of the silica and how does silica's size effect on physical properties of outside insulation covering plaster mortar.
This study analyzed fire-resistant characteristics according to changes in repair methods of PFH mixed high-strength concrete roof structures having undergone fire damage. The results of the study are as follows. First, as a repulsive characteristics of structures, the remaining repulsion was shown to increase following fire-resistance tests according to increases in depth of coverings. The results of the relationship between depth of coverings and remaining repulsion rates following fire-proofing tests showed a high correlation. At a covering depth of 67.3mm, remaining repulsion rate was estimated to be 100%. For fire-resistant characteristics following repairs of structure, as for spalling, severe separation was shown in the case of general plaster while general plaster + Metal Lath showed overall superior spalling prevention. For internal structure temperatures, general plaster showed max temperatures of 705℃, average temperatures of 636℃ while general plaster + metal lath showed max temperature of 660℃ and average temperature of 520℃, demonstrating lower temperature distributions than use of only general plaster. In conclusion, after removing the covering of structures damaged due to high temperatures of fires within high-strength concrete installations, the use of fire-resistant mortars and applying metal laths on surfaces of general plaster will provide superior fire-resistance performance in the occurrence of a 2nd fire.
Objective: Although, digital models have recently been used in orthodontic clinics, physical models are still needed for a multitude of reasons. The purpose of this study was to assess whether the printed models can replace the plaster models by evaluating their accuracy in reproducing intermaxillary relationships and by appraising the clinicians' ability to measure the printed models. Methods: Twenty sets of patients' plaster models with well-established occlusal relationships were selected. Models were scanned using an intraoral scanner (Trios 3, 3Shape Dental System) by a single operator. Printed models were made with ZMD-1000B light-curing resin using the stereolithography method 3-dimensional printer. Validity, reliability, and reproducibility were evaluated using measurements obtained by three operators. Results: In evaluation of validity, all items showed no significant differences between measurements taken from plaster and printed models. In evaluation for reliability, significant differences were found in the distance between the gingival zeniths of #23-#33 (DZL_3) for the plaster models and at #17-#43 (DZCM_1) for the printed models. In evaluation for reproducibility, the plaster models showed significant differences between operators at midline, and printed models showed significant differences at 7 measurements including #17-#47 (DZR_7). Conclusions: The validity and reliability of intermaxillary relationships as determined by the printed model were clinically acceptable, but the evaluation of reproducibility revealed significant inter-operator differences. To use printed models as substitutes for plaster models, additional studies on their accuracies in measuring intermaxillary relationship are required.
Calcium sulfate has a long history of medical use as an implant material. The biocompatibiliry of the material has been clearly established. Bone ingrowth concomitant with resorption occurs rapidly with efficient conduction of bone from particle to particle. Calcium sulfate also has a potential for functioning as a good bamer membrane. The purpose of this study was to compare the biocompatibility of different types of calcium sulfate grafting materials including an expelimental calcium sulfate compound on periodontal ligament cells in vitro as a preliminary test towards the development of a more convenient and useful form of grafting material which could promote regeneration of periodontal tissue. Human periodontal ligament cells were collected from the premolar teeth extracted for orthodontic treatment. cells were cultured in a.MEM culture medium containing 20% FBS, at $37^{\circ}C$ and 100% humidity, in a 5% CO2 incubator. Cells were cultured into 96 well culture plate $1{\times}104$ cells per well with $\alpha$-MEM and incubated for 24 hours. After discarding the medium, those cells were cultured in $\alpha$-MEM contained with 10% FBS alone (control group), in medcal-grade calcium sulfate(MGCS group), in plaster(plaster group), experimental calcium sulfate paste(CS paste group) for 1, 2, 3 day respectively. And then each group was characterized by examining of the cell counting, MTI assay, collagen synthesis. The results \vere as follows. 1. In the analysis of cell proliferation by cell counting, both medical-grdde calcium sulfate group and plaster group showed no stastically significant difference at day 1, 2, 3 accept for plaster group at day 1 compared to control group, but there was stastically significant difference between CS paste group and all other groups at day 1, 2, 3(P<0.05). 2. In the analysis of cytotoxicity by MIT assay, both medical-grade calcium sJlfate group and plaster group showed no stastically significant difference compared to control group at day 1, 2, 3 but there was stastically significant difference between CS paste group and all other groups at day 1, 2, 3(P<0.OS). 3. In the analysis of collagen synthesis by immunoblotting assay, high level was detected for medical-grade calcium sulfate group and plaster group at day 1, 2, 3 compared to CS paste group. On the basis of these results, medical-grade calcium sulfate and plaster was shown to possess biocompatibility whereas the CS paste had unfavourable outcome. This observation shows a need for modification of the materials contained in calcium sulfate paste.
This study was carried out to reconstruct three-dimensional plaster model of the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of 3 Korean native goats. The representative coronal sections of the hypothalami were stained immunohistochemically with monoclonal antibodies to vasopressin and oxytocin simultaneously. Plaster models were reconstructed by schematic drawings which were made by tracing onto the tracing paper with the aid of a drawing attachment. The results were as follows: The configurations of the models of 3 supraoptic nuclei were slender spherical shape at their cranial parts, and the highest and widest size at middle parts, and became lower and narrow at caudal parts in two models, hence one was directed dorsolaterally. The medial surfaces of the para ventricular nuclei were vertically flat, and lateral surfaces were more complex than medial with processes directed dorsolaterally at their cranial portion. They change positions dorsally at caudal portion, and there were no significant variations in shape between them.
