  • Wear characteristics of Nylon and acetal pinions against steel gears for different pitch line velocities was studied with a power circulating gear test rig under unlubricated condition. Specific wear rate was measured as a function of tooth number, module, tooth width and total revolution. The worn tooth surfaces were examined with a profile projector. The Nylon pinion showed lower specific wear rate than the acetal pinion. However, the Nylon pinion was fractured at high tooth loads, whereas the acetal pinion exhibited a steady wear behavior. The wear characteristics of Nylon pinion varied significantly with the Pitch line velocity. Wear occurred most severely at the tooth tip and the region immediately below the pitch line of pinion. The dominant wear mechanisms were adhesion and abrasion.

  • In speech signal processing, it is very important to detect the pitch exactly. The algorithms for pitch extraction that have been proposed until now are not enough to detect the fine pitch in speech signal. Thus we propose the new algorithm which takes advantage of the G-peak extraction. It is the method to find MZCI(maximum zer-crossing interval) which is defined as cut-off bandwidth rate of LPF (low pass filter)and detect the pitch period of the voiced signals. This algorithm performs robustly with a gross error rate of 3.63% even in 0 dB SNR environment. The gross error rate for clean speech is only 0.18%. Also it is able to process all course with speed.

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of good impression using speech manipulation scripts and investigates the characteristics of preferred speech voice. Fourty male and female college students participated in this study. They have been exposed to the Gyeongsang dialect spoken by their friends and family for more than 15 years. Two sample voices(1 male and 1 female), considered as giving good impression, were subject to voice analysis. Two students were asked to read the sample paragraph of 'Walking' and their voice samples were analyzed through Praat. The collected speech data were manipulated into 4 different sets by changing pitch level, degree of loudness and speech rate. First, both men and women received good impression more from pitch-lowered sound than from the original one. Second, men tended to receive good impression more from slightly louder voice than from the natural-pitched one. Third, it was shown that men often felt more drowned to a voice at slightly faster speech rate than at the original speech rate. Overall, both male and female listeners favored lower pitch over the original pitch. Men tended to prefer louder voice sound while women preferred less loud one. Men received better impression at a lower speech rate but women at a faster speech rate.

  • In speech signal processing, it is very important to detect the pitch exactly. Although various methods for detecting the pitch of speech signals have been developed, it is difficult to exactly extract the pitch for wide range of speakers and various utterances. Thus we propose a new pitch detection algorithm which takes advantage of the G-peak extraction. It is a method to detect the pitch period of the voiced signals by finding MZCI (maximum zero-crossing interval) of the G-peak which is defined as cut-off bandwidth rate of LPF (low pass filter).

  • The neural network pitch controller using changing rate of generator speed has been suggested in this paper to regulate wind turbine power above the rated wind speed. The changing rate of generator speed is used in the suggested pitch controller as well as the difference between the rated and current generator speed. Matlab/simulink has been used for simulations and it has been shown that the suggested pitch controller regulates generator speed as the rated speed of 122.9[rad/s].

  • The aim of this paper is to suggest one efficient method for the various requirements of performance during the process designing and producing an impeller. The study considers that the revisions of a pitch angle of an impeller at an axial turbo fan affect an air flow rates and a static pressure rise. The axial turbo fan specified with the 250 Pa maximum static pressure and 1300 CMH fan air flow rates was tested and analyzed by CFD. The Numerical results show that the air flow rates are calculated to 1,175 CMH, 1,223 CMH, 1,270 CMH, 1,340 CMH and 800 CMH in cases that the pitch angles are $44^{\circ},\;49^{\circ},\;54^{\circ},\;59^{\circ},\;and\;64^{\circ}$ respectively. Also the static pressure rises are shown to 108 Pa, 122Pa, 141 Pa, 188 Pa and 63 Pa at the same cases. The air flow rate is increased linearly according to the changes of the pitch angle from $44^{\circ}\;to\;59^{\circ}$ and the maximum air flow rate passing the impeller is increased to $13\%$ over at the case of $59^{\circ}$ pitch angle compared with the reference case of $54^{\circ}$ pitch angle. The static pressure rise is increased linearly according to the changes of the pitch angle from $44^{\circ}\;to\;54^{\circ}$, too. The static pressure rise at the $59^{\circ}$ pitch angle is increased to $33\%$ over compared with the $54^{\circ}$ pitch angle. The result shows that the revisions of pitch angle make the static pressure rise increase widely. However the air flow rates and the static pressure rise at the $64^{\circ}$ pitch angle are suddenly decreased because of over-changed pitch angle.

  • This paper presented here contains development of variable stability system(VSS) control laws for the KIFS (Korean In-Flight Simulator) aircraft to simulate the dynamics of F-16 aircraft. Development of VSS Control law for pitch rate, roll rate, yaw rate simulation for three specified flight conditions using Model Following Technique with rate feedback autopilot for stability provision. The direct lift force controller was also added to the developed VSS control law to simulate the pitch rate and normal g-load simultaneously. The simulation results show high accuracy of F-16 aircraft's pitch, roll, yaw rate and g-load simulation.

  • In this paper, a roll and pitch estimation algorithm using a set of accelerometers and wireless sensor networks(S/N) is presented for use in a passenger vehicle. While an inertial measurement unit(IMU) is generally used for roll/pitch estimation, performance may be degraded in the presence of longitudinal acceleration and yaw motion. To compensate for this performance degradation, a new roll and pitch estimation algorithm is proposed that uses an accelerometer array, global positioning system(GPS) and in-vehicle networks to get information from yaw rate and roll rate sensors. Angular acceleration and roll and pitch approximation are first calculated based on vehicle kinematics. A discrete Kalman filter is then applied to estimate both roll and pitch more precisely by reducing noise from the running engine and from road disturbance. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed algorithm is shown by comparing its performance experimentally with that of an IMU in the framework of an indoor test platform as well as a test vehicle.

  • This study is concerned with the production of carbon fiber reinforced carbon(C/C) with polyaromatic mesophase pitch as matrix precursor and with the investigation of friction-wear characteristics in ambient air using a constant speed type of friction tester. The main problem in using the polyaromatic mesophase as the matrix precursor is the high viscosity which may limit the complete impregnation of the fiber preform in the vacuum. To solve these problems two dimensional carbon fiber fabrics were infiltrated with meso-phase pitch in the pitch impregnator. After the impregnation and the heat treatment process. C/C com-posites were characterized by density porosity to monitor the influence of high pressure and temperature. It showed that the bulk density was increased and the apparent porosity and the density increasing rate was reduced as repeating the impregnation the carbonization and the heat treatment. The friction-wear charac-teristics of C/C composites were investigated by measuring the average friction coefficient and the specific wear rate as functions friction speed and friction pressure using a constant speed type of friction tester. C/C composite4s showed the average friction coefficient to be reduced as increasing the friction speed and the friction pressure.
