  • A series of model tests was performed to evaluate the survivability of an articulated tower-type buoy structure under harsh environmental conditions. The buoy structure consisted of three long pipes, a buoyancy module, and top equipment. The scale model was made of acrylic pipe and plastic with a scale ratio of 1/22. The experiments were carried out at the ocean engineering basin of KRISO. The performance of the buoy structure was investigated under waves only and under combined environmental conditions from sea state (SS) 5 to 7. A nonlinear time-domain numerical simulation was conducted using the mooring analysis program OrcaFlex. The survivability of the buoy was analyzed based on three factors: the pitch motion, submergence of the top structure, and anchor reaction force. The model test results were directly compared to the results of numerical simulations. The effects of the sea state and combined environment on the performance of the buoy structure were investigated.

  • In this study aerodynamic characteristics of guided gliding type ammunition were investigated by using a computational analysis and wind tunnel test. Missile DATCOM, a semi-empirical method, and a FLUENT, a computational fluid dynamics analysis program, were used for computational analysis. For a guided gliding type ammunition, aerodynamic characteristics were investigated by calculating lift force, drag force, pitching moment and etc. Aerodynamic characteristics of guided gliding type ammunition are completely different from those of conventional ammunition. The results obtained from the computer analysis are similar to those obtained from the wind tunnel test. Although the pitch moment values obtained by the semi-empirical method were slightly different from the wind tunnel test results, the overall computer analysis results showed trends and values similar to the test results. In this study, aerodynamic characteristics of guided gliding type ammunition were identified and it found that semi-empirical method can be applied to analyze the aerodynamic characteristic in the initial design of guided gliding ammunition.

  • The policy for Green New Deal will promote the shift of the application to coal as feedstock from coal as fuel. Coal can be used as fuel for production of hydrogen and as feedstock materials such as synthetic graphite or activated carbon. Hydrogen is obtained from syngas produced through Steam carbon(SC), Water-Gas Shift(WGS), and Carbonation reactions, and these processes should be used in conjunction with CO2 sequestration technology. Anthracite has a potential in terms of cost advantage as a feedstock compared to a petroleum pitch, because Synthetic graphite is prepared by heat treating an anthracite with high rank to a graphitization temperature which is in the range of 2400~2800℃, in the presence of inorganic catalyst such as silicon or iron. From several studies, it has been confirmed that coal-based activated carbon(AC) is manufactured with quality similar to the large specific surface area and much micropore volume of lignin-based AC, can be prepared. Therefore it is expected that lignin-based AC is replaced to coal-based AC.

  • This paper propose how to track the position of the observer to control the viewing zone using an adaptive parallax barrier. The pose is estimated using a Constrained Local Model based on the shape model and Landmark for robust eye-distance measurement in the face pose. Camera's correlation converts distance and horizontal location to centimeter. The pixel pitch of the adaptive parallax barrier is adjusted according to the position of the observer's eyes, and the barrier is moved to adjust the viewing area. This paper propose a method for tracking the observer in the range of 60cm to 490cm, and measure the error, measurable range, and fps according to the resolution of the camera image. As a result, the observer can be measured within the absolute error range of 3.1642cm on average, and it was able to measure about 278cm at 320×240, about 488cm at 640×480, and about 493cm at 1280×960 depending on the resolution of the image.

  • Deep neural networks have shown remarkable performance in various areas, including image classification and speech recognition. The variety of data generated by augmentation plays an important role in improving the performance of the neural network. The transformation of data in the augmentation process makes it possible for neural networks to be learned more generally through more diverse forms. In the traditional field of image process, not only new augmentation methods have been proposed for improving the performance, but also exploring methods for an optimal augmentation policy that can be changed according to the dataset and structure of networks. Inspired by the prior work, this paper aims to explore to search for an optimal augmentation policy in the field of sound data. We carried out many experiments randomly combining various augmentation methods such as adding noise, pitch shift, or time stretch to empirically search which combination is most effective. As a result, by applying the optimal data augmentation policy we achieve the improved classification accuracy on the environmental sound classification dataset (ESC-50).

  • The complex effects of the machining parameters make it is difficult to control and predict surface roughness. The theoretical surface roughness observed during mechanical machining with a round tool is determined by the tool radius and pitch. However, it was revealed that other parameters, such as the depth of cut and cutting speed, also affect surface roughness. This study adapted the Taguchi method, which can analyze the effects of cutting parameters quantitatively with an efficient number of experiments, to optimize the parameters for better surface roughness. Experiments were designed based on an orthogonal array, and the quantitative effects on the surface roughness were analyzed using the S/N ratio. The surface roughness was affected by all parameters, especially the tool radius. The optimum cutting parameter values obtained in this study showed better surface roughness than the other combinations of the parameters.

  • System-in-package (SIP) technology using heterogeneous integration is becoming the key of next-generation semiconductor packaging technology, and the development of low temperature Cu bonding is very important for high-performance and fine-pitch SIP interconnects. In this study the low temperature Cu bonding and the anti-oxidation effect of copper using porous Ag nanolayer were investigated. It has been found that Cu diffuses into Ag faster than Ag diffuses into Cu at the temperatures from 100℃ to 200℃, indicating that solid state diffusion bonding of copper is possible at low temperatures. Cu bonding using Ag nanolayer was carried out at 200℃, and the shear strength after bonding was measured to be 23.27 MPa.

  • There are a number of voice analysis programs around the world. Domestic voice analysis is performed by relying heavily on specific commercial program. We intend to develop coding for voice analysis using Praat and apply it to clinical practice. This study consisted of Experiment 1 and Experiment 2. Experiment 1 was the development of automated voice analysis coding based on Praat. The coding was largely divided into a recording, an analysis, and a storage section. Experiment 2 was applied to the voice analysis of 2 male patients pre- and post-operation with this coding. The analysis parameters of this coding provided 26 parameters for vowel /a/, nine parameters for sentence analysis, and a total of 4 parameters for voice range profile analysis. In two male patients, the pitch and the intensity increased, the voice quality improved, and the sentence length decreased after surgery. The coding was well made, so the output was good in real time. The code is automated as much as possible to block manual errors and increases convenience and efficiency by generating the result sheet in real time.

  • In this study, wind loads exerted on the offshore wind turbine rotor in parked condition were predicted with variations of wind speeds, yaw angles, azimuth angle, pitch angles, and power of the atmospheric boundary layer profile. The calculated wind loads using blade element theorem were compared with those of estimated aerodynamic loads for the simplified blade shape. Wind loads for an NREL's 5 MW scaled offshore wind turbine rotor were also compared with those of NREL's FAST results for more verification. All of the 6-component wind loads including forces and moments along the three axis were represented on a non-rotating coordinate system fixed at the apex of rotor hub. The calculated wind loads are applicable for the dynamic analysis of the wind turbine system, or obtaining the over-turning moment at the foundation of support structure for wind turbine system.

  • The current study investigates the electroplating characteristics of Sn-Cu eutectic micro-bumps electroplated on a Si chip for flip chip application. Under bump metallization (UBM) layers consisting of Cr, Cu, Ni and Au sequentially from bottom to top with the aim of achieving Sn-Cu bumps $10\times10\times6$ ${\mu}m$ in size, with 20${\mu}m$ pitch. In order to determine optimal plating parameters, the polarization curve, current density and plating time were analyzed. Experimental results showed the equilibrium potential from the Sn-Cu polarization curve is -0.465 V, which is attained when Sn-Cu electro-deposition occurred. The thickness of the electroplated bumps increased with rising current density and plating time up to 20 mA/$cm^2$ and 30 min respectively. The near eutectic composition of the Sn-0.72wt%Cu bump was obtained by plating at 10 mA/$cm^2$ for 20 min, and the bump size at these conditions was $10\times10\times6$ ${\mu}m$. The shear strength of the eutectic Sn-Cu bump was 9.0 gf when the shearing tip height was 50% of the bump height.
