  • The pipe laid underground more than three decades ago are already starting to reveal the problem like corrosion. There have been many studies to design robotic system for a cost-effective revival of old pipes. And the ability to inspect in the pipes, the ability to treat and repaint the pipes and the fault-tolerant robotic system are well known important factors for the robotic system. It's real hard part to manage the underground pipes for companies because it needs high technical and too much money. According to this reasons, in this paper, we had design an in-pipe robotic system having abilities to inspect outworn pipes, to treat and paint old pipes. This new robot system is pressing wall type robot, and it has a good carrying power for working.

  • The automatic inspection system is developed for the formed end part of automotive fuel pipe. The developed system has functions of outer diameter and formed end length measurement by LVDT(linear variable differential transformer) together with burr cleaning of automotive fuel pipe. The measured data are managed and controlled in real time by embedded SPC(statistical process control) program. The system is composed of mechanical part, electronic part and developed software system. These three parts operate automatically by mutual communication with each other. The developed system showed good results in finding inferior goods and efficiency improvement of the fuel pipe production line. It also eliminated the unreliable manual inspection processes and improved the confidence of product quality.

  • Korea District heating corp. recently give an attention to combine the district heating and supply pipes as a two pipe system that are in the present system separated with room heating and warm water supply pipe, and the two pipe system is commonly applied for heating service in European countries. In the new two pipe system, only one heat source is supplied to a house and partitioned into room heating and warm water supply by household substation. So the effective distribution of supplied heat source in accordance to user intention is very important. This paper presents the development and performance test of three-way proportional control valve for a combined heat source system in district heating. The proposed valve is controlled to partition heat source into two different directions : hot water distributor for space heating and household substation for warm water supply in response to the pressure drops of tap water caused by the user. The performance investigation is shown within 3% of error compared to the theoretical model of the three-way proportional valve and its controllability is verified.

  • It is necessary to analyze the unsteady flow in the pipe network for the better operation and controls, but there are some problems in actual pipe network simulation, such as collecting a large amount of information in the field, operating highly upgraded computer system, and keeping a big storage device to run analysis program. The skeletonization method is used to cope with the problems in this paper. It is expected to reduce computation time, researcher's efforts, and costs for the analyzing the pipe network. The impact of individual pipe elements to the behavior of the water distribution system can be accounted in the process of skeletonization. However it is also important to study continuously about how to apply the skeletonization method for each of different cases, because inadequate uses may bring simulation to a false result. This paper introduces basic theories and skeletonizing examples in the actual pipe network in Dae-gu city.

  • Stress concentration have a effect on commission of structures and sometimes it cause the fracture of structures. Stress concentration is appeared where have a sudden section change like pipe connections. So stress concentration is a potent influence at pipe connentions. This paper make a study of pipe connections to alleviate stress concentration, and propose the stress concentration alleviation method that will make better efficient pipe system and will have a good effect on economic, social aspect.

  • Most domestic fossil power plants have exceeded 100,000 hours of operation with the severe operating condition. Among the critical components of fossil power plant, high temperature steam pipe systems have had a many problems and damage from unstable displacement behavior because of frequent start up and shut down. In order to prevent the serious damage and failure of the critical pipe system in fossil power plants, 3-dimensional displacement measurement system was developed for the on-line monitoring. Displacement measurement system was developed with a use of a LVDT type sensor and two rotary encoder type sensors. This system was installed and operated on the real power plant successfully.

  • Dynamic characteristics of water hammer arresters installed in a building water supply system have been investigated numerically by utilizing a commercial code that employs the method of characteristics. Some preliminary results with those arrester models produced in this study agree well with the previously reported. Then, the arrester models have been incorporated into a water supply pipe system of a 59 $m^2$apartment unit constructed by a leading construction company, and their dynamic characteristics have been investigated, especially on the reduction in the water hammer pressure. It is found that the setting of the arresters in the pipe system, which is recommended by the company, may not be proper for reducing the pressure down below 1,082.0 kPa (10.0 kg$g_f$/$cm^2$) when quick-closure valves in the pipe system are closed within 30 ms at the static pressure of 542.6 kPa (4.5 kg$g_f$/$cm^2$). More arresters in the system may be required to meet pressure criteria stated on the related standards and codes.

  • Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) systems utilize the temperature difference between the surface water and deep ocean water to generate electrical energy. In addition to ocean surface waves, wind and current, in certain locations like the Andaman Sea, Sulu Sea and the South China Sea the presence of strong internal waves may become a concern in floating OTEC system design. The current paper focuses on studying the dependence of the CWP hydrodynamic drag on relative velocity of the flow around the pipe, the effect of drag amplification due to vortex induced vibrations and the influence of internal waves on the floating semi and the cold water pipe integrated OTEC system. Two CWP sizes are modeled; the 4m diameter pipe represents a small scale prototype and the 10m diameter pipe represents a full commercial size CWP. are considered in the study.

  • Underground pipe is an instrument to transport rapidly and safely a lot of fluid like gas, oil, water supply and drain system. It acts like blood vessels of human body in a modern industry. As in this country, the pipe facilities have been constructing since 1970's. The pipes constructed for a long time ago are already starting to reveal the problem like corrosion and most of them are built underground. So for companies, the managing of the underground pipes is very hard because it needs high technology and a lot of money. So we made a new robot system to repair and maintain the pipes at a low price. This new robot is devised using pressing wall type to work inside 700${\sim}$900(mm) size pipe. And it has good carrying and working power.

  • A piping system stress analysis need to be re-performed for structural integrity assessment after reinforcement of a pipe with significant wall thinning. For efficient stress analysis, a one-dimensional beam element for the wall-thinned pipe with reinforcement needs to be developed. To develop the beam element, this work presents analytical equations for elastic stiffness of the wall-thinned pipe with reinforcement are analytically derived for axial tension, bending and torsion. Comparison with finite element (FE) analysis results using detailed three-dimensional solid models for wall-thinned pipe with reinforcement shows good agreement. Implementation of the proposed solutions into commercial FE programs is explained.
