Development of $16{\mu}m{\times}16{\mu}m$ Digital Micromirror Array Suitable for Seamless-picture Projection Display System

  • We have developed $16{\mu}m{\times}16{\mu}m$ digital micromirror array suitable for seamless-picture projection display system. This structure can improve the picture quality by making seamlesspicture image when combined with high-fill-factor microlens array to focus lights onto the mirror center. The fabricated micromirror shows excellent dynamic performances including the resonant frequency of 400 kHz.

  • Isometric array grammar is one of the simplest model to generate picture languages, since both sides of its production rule have the same shape. In this paper, we have introduced isometric fuzzy regular array grammars to generate isometric fuzzy regular array languages and discussed its closure properties. Also, the relation between isometric fuzzy regular array grammar and boustrophedon fuzzy finite automata has been discussed. Moreover, we study the relation between two dimensional fuzzy regular grammars with returning fuzzy finite automata and boustrophedon fuzzy finite automata. Further, the hierarchy results of these three classes of languages have been discussed.

  • Prouhet string morphism has been a well investigated morphism in different studies on combinatorics on words. In this paper we consider Prouhet array morphism for the images of binary picture arrays in terms of Parikh q-matrices. We state the formulae to calculate q-counting scattered subwords of the images of any arrays under this array morphism and also investigate the properties such as q-weak ratio property and commutative property under this array morphism in terms of Parikh q- matrices of arrays.

  • The exploitable efficiency of UHP is very important in a projection system. We always use lens array for light shaping and energy distribution transformation in conventional projection system. Because of the limitation of arc gap and F/# of elements, the utilize efficiency is always dismal. In this paper we try to bring out a new method to reduce the sparkle formed on the PS converter and enhance the system efficiency.

A study on the microstrip array antenna for KOREASAT DBS reception (KOREASAT 위성방송 수신용 마이크로스트립 어레이 안테나에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the possibility of the satellite broadcasting reception as a means of microstrip antenna of the planar structure. The paper discusses the design of the optimal KOREASAT DBS(Direct Broadcasting Satellite) reception microstrip antenna. Experimental results for ta 16*16 array antenna of size 35*35cm are also described. Itsgain is over 28dB in the frequency range of 11.7~12.0GHz DBS band. The measured NHK broadcasting C/N ratio of 16816 array antenna is over 10dB in Pusan. It is expected that good picture quality of C/N .GEQ. 12dB can be obtained for domestic use if this microstrip antenna is used in KOREASAT broadcasting receiving system.

  • Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology (TMD) has firstly succeeded in mass production of OCB (Optically Compensated Bend) mode liquid crystal display panels which have excellent moving picture quality almost the same as CRT. We have newly developed 32 -inch diagonal HD ($1366{\times}768\;pixels$) panels using OCB mode and low temperature p-Si TFT (LTPS) array substrates. High performance of brightness of $600cd/m^2$ and contrast ratio of 600 : 1 was obtained by using pseudo-impulse driving method to insert a black period between continuous two frames, and also by using blinking backlight method. Furthermore, moving picture response time (MPRT) 6.5ms has been obtained by optimization of black insert driving and backlight blinking, without the great sacrifices of contrast ratio and luminance.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient architecture for motion estimation processor which performs one of essential functions in moving picture coding algorithms. Simple control mechanism of data flow in register array which stores pixel data, parallel processing of pixel data and pipelining scheme in arithmetic umit allow this architecture to process a 352*288 pixel image at the frame rate of 30fs, which is compatable with CCITT standard H.261.

  • An improved genetic algorithm was proposed for pattern synthesis of an adaptive beam forming system using phased array antennas. The proposed genetic algorithm is an algorithm that adds acquired characteristics procedure to solve local optimization using the diversity. The performance of the proposed genetic algorithm is verified through the problem of finding a suitable chromosome for a picture composed of binary. And it is confirmed that it is suitable for the adaptive beam forming system based on the performance problem of combining main beam and two pattern nulls.

  • In this paper, a real-time operating Motion Picture Experts Group-1 (MPEG-1) audio encoder system is implemented using a TMS320C31 Digital Signal Processor (DSP) chip. The basic operation of the MPEG-1 audio encoder algorithm based on audio layer-2 and psychoacoustic model-1 is first verified by C-language. It is then realized using the Texas Instruments (Tl) assembly in order to reduce the overall execution time. Finally, the actual BSP circuit board for the encoder system is designed and implemented. In the system, the side-modules such as the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) control, the input/output (I/O) control, the bit-stream transmission from the DSP board to the PC and so on, are utilized with a field programmable gate array (FPGA) using very high speed hardware description language (VHDL) codes. The complete encoder system is able to process the stereo audio signal in real-time at the sampling frequency 48 kHz, and produces the encoded bit-stream with the bit-rate 192 kbps. The real-time operation capability of the encoder system and the good quality of the decoded sound are also confirmed using various types of actual stereo audio signals.

Spanwise Growth of Vortex Structure in Wall Turbulence

  • Recent studies of the structure of wall turbulence have lead to the development of a conceptual model that validates and integrates many elements of previous models into a relatively simple picture based on self-assembling packets of hairpin vortex eddies. By continual spawning new hairpins the packets grow longer in the streamwise direction, and by mutual induction between adjacent hairpins the hairpins are strained so that they grow taller and wider as they age. The result is a characteristic growth angle in the streamwise-wall normal plane. The spanwise growth of individual packets implies that packets must either merge or pass through each other when they come into contact. Direct numerical simulations of the growth and interaction of spanwise adjacent hairpins shows that they merge by the vortex connection mechanism originally proposed by Wark and Nagib (199). In this mechanism the quasi-streamwise legs of two hairpins annihilate each other, by virtue of having opposite vorticity, leaving a new hairpin of approximately double the width of the individuals. PIV measurements in planes parallel to the wall support this picture. DNS of multiple hairpins shows how the spanwise scale doubles when the hairpins form an array.
